In what will go down as the deftest and smartest of transfer moves since his return to Stamford Bridge on June 3rd, Chelsea new boss, The Special One has apparently set a deadline of August 26th to the Wayne Rooney transfer imbroglio, according to the Daily Express.
I'd wager this development sounds like a plausible one, and if it is anything to go by then it's safe to say, at this point, that the club's striker procurement stance may have significantly [read thankfully] shifted from that of "Rooney or bust" to that of "Play ball on or before August 26th or bust for Wayne Rooney and Manchester United".
It's no news that a month has elapsed since we first made our intentions to sign the England striker known to his club, neither is it worth any retelling that the Mancs have stuck to their guns and have rejected two bids in excess of £20m from us nor that the player in question has incredibly remained tight-lipped throughout the saga. What's news however is that they risk being stuck with an unhappy and disillusioned, er, "confused and angry" player who hitherto appeared desperate to leave Old Trafford - though that depends on who you listen to, and if you're one blessed with the enviable gift of understanding, and believing, anything Sir Alex Ferguson says*.
The said paper and indeed most of the nation's news vehicles reckon that Jose Mourinho, who is poised to table a final take-it-or-bugger-off bid for Rooney next week, is not averse to reuniting with Cameroon and Anzhi Mackhachkala striker, Samuel Eto'o - a player he worked with while winning his famous treble with Inter Milan in 2010 and who have just become available in the market or Colombian striker Jackson Martinez who currently plies his trade with his former club, FC Porto.
*Yours truly appreciates the Scottish accent but neither understands Fergie's nor ever bothered trying, let alone believing whatever he utters.
So, suffice it to say that the ball is firmly in Rooney's court...or is it actually in Moyes', as it were?
Your thoughts are most welcomed folks.
