Following the 2-0 win, a win that extends Jose Mourinho`s unbeaten run in Premier League games at Stamford Bridge to 61, the boss had this to say,
'Maybe we couldn't do the same as the first. The first half was too intense, creative and dynamic for the first game of the season. We started in an amazing way and not even a missed penalty could break our intensity and quality. It was fantastic."
'I've played so many games at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea and we didn't play many with the beautiful quality of the first half. The second was not a question of attitude or trying to control it, it was just a consequence of the half, pre-season and the week we had, especially for the three players behind the striker. Those three give dynamic movement and were involved in national team matches.'
'It's a different profile of squad to the one I had from the past - we have the three [attacking-midfielders] who started the match and we have Schurrle, Mata and Moses, who was not even on the bench. We have six players for three positions. It's special because it gives me the opportunity as the manger to change from match to match, different opponents and different game-plans. The very base of these three players creates our football.'
As for the opposition boss, Steve Bruce, he was full of praise for Chelsea in defeat, commenting,
'Chelsea were rampant for the first 30 minutes. When they play with that intensity, movement and fluidity they are a constant threat."
'In the second half human nature sees them take their foot off the pedal but not many teams could live with them early on. I think Allan McGregor could have done better with the free-kick when he sees it again but the ball moves all over the place. It was a wonderful strike."
'Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore will make a difference to us. We were certainly better when they come on. But our season won't be defined by games against the likes of Chelsea.'
It certainly won`t and we`d like to wish Hull well in the coming weeks.
