Barcelona Court Thibaut

Our talented young Belgian keeper continues to attract attention whilst on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Thibaut Courtois, seen as the logical successor to the legend that is Per Cech, is now beginning to attract the attention of Barcelona.

The Catalan giants see Courtois as the successor to Victor Valdo and are keen to instigate a transfer to enable Courtois to be at the Nou Camp in time for next season.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are tempted to do a deal or simply stick two fingers up at one of our greatest European rivals.

come May 2014 we have to make a decision, especially as Courtois is refusing to sign a contract extension...

We must be extremely rigorous about this as we are not Tottenham or Arsenal, and we must prove that we will keep our best/most talented players under any circumstance and by any means necessary. He has three years to run on his contract so we MUST NOT consider any harassment from the Spanish club, no matter if he actually asks for a move or not. I think he could surpass Cech this year and would get a realistic shot at a place in our team anyway.

He should be standing in between posts for us next season. We thank Cech for his hard work for Chelsea. He should understand that since he also took over the No. 1 spot from Cudicini prior to this. City did that to Given for Hart... Cech could be our back-up and plays in the Cup game...

now the club has to be "sly"....either give Courtois verbal "assurances" that he's replacing Cech next season to get him to sign a contract extension so that we still have "control" over him, or give Cech a 3 year contract then come May 2014 Courtois takes over...only then can Cech be the sub keeper and if he wants out we get decent moola

LOLest ;) Believe Chelsea [read, farcelona's nemesis] will ever sell farcelona any, read my lips, ANY YOUNG PLAYER [except a retiring old one like the Gudjohnsens of this club] AND YOU'LL BELIEVE ANY BS IN THE WORLD! Courtois stays blue alongside his numerous compatriots, and succeeds Cech come 2014! Simples. You think Mourinho is as dumb and as clueless as Pep in the "transfer tavern" who frittered away £45m plus a then 28-year-old Samuel Eto'o to get a 'dud' misfitting asset as Zlatan then you sure have got another think coming! This year being a World cup year, he couldn't take a risk of not playing. .......Whatever the situation, it can be dealt with next season end. Not an urgent issue now. ........

Pavel - never mind the Catalan mob...they have their ways and means of settling with "their" Platini and his FFP "selective" gospel. But Madrid already recouped the best parts of their Bale investment through the sales of Higuain, Jose Callejon and Ozil, plus merchandise and, of course, obliterating the Kaka drainpipe from their wage bill. Perez can be such a dumbass when it comes to the sporting front - cue him disposing of Arjen Robben, Wes Sneijder and Van Der Vaart simply because Ramon Calderon [his arch-rival for the Madrid presidency] bought them - but believe me when I say, Don Perez can be a very shrewd businessman and deft politician as this singular move of procuring Bale [and Spanish prodigies, Isco & Illaramendi in one transfer window] absolutely nullifies and neutralizes whatever statement Sandro Rossell thought he made with Neymar while at the same time, with the same 'master' stone, killing off the Calderon "flightless" bird. Talk of killing two birds with a stone!

Give him another 3 and a half years contract extension and let him and cech fight it out next season, by 2015 he'll probably be above cech and we can either make cech no.2 or sell him for profit. That offcourse would depend on jamal improving too

This is a not even news and Barcelona shouldn't waste their time and not end up being hurt like Luiz. Thibaut Courtois's contract ends in 2016 and not 2015 contrary to some posts here so after the world cup year, he has 2 years left. However, Chelsea is trying to get the contract extension early enough. The lad has also gotten commitments that he will replace Cech from day 1 and the lad was blasted for making the comments public. Mourinho also wanted the lad to return this year, but he obviously made the right choice in staying in Atletico especially in a world cup year. Atletico Madrid will be playing UCL football this year, La Liga and Supercup compared to Chelsea where he would be fighting for a shirt with Petr Cech. Recall that Pool have signed another Belgain keeper who would get a lot of game time in Simon Mignolet. So his chances at Belgium this year will be threatened if he returned to CFC this season.

While i know they will never get their grubby hands on Thibaut just hearing they are interested in the guy makes my blood boil. These Catalan hypocrites used to cry to the high heavens that they produced all the best players right there in the equivalent of footie heaven called La Masia..this was what they used to perennially insult us, Real and other so called "buying teams". Let them grow their own goalkeeper and back line defenders otherwise i am happy with them continuing to play defensive mids like Mascherano as CBs and FBs..maybe someday they will have Pique in goal as well. After all their tika taka philosophy is supposed to make defense optional anyway. They will likely run away with la liga again this year which is a reflection not of their quality but of the sordid state La Liga is in..what i await is when they again meet their waterloo in european competition where no one of substance is quaking in their boots any longer to play them.

After their blatant tapping up of Mata and David Luiz, we should refuse to do business with the lousy Catalans. And they don't have anything to trade that we'd need (i.e. neither a striker nor a CB). If we could use him to pry Raphaėl Varane from Real, though, then we should sell! Cech is a legend and will offer at least another 4 years of quality service, and by that time a lot of things may have changed and Sam Walker may be an option.
