Azpilicueta on Strength in Depth

For those who like to have a bet on who`ll be the first goal-scorer in a game, I`d be interested to know how many of you selected Cesar Azpilicueta.

Our Spanish full-back not only notched his first goal for Chelsea, on Tuesday night, but it turns out it was only the second one he`d ever scored.

The win, as well as pleasing Chelsea supporters, also opened the eyes of those of several other clubs who are now only too aware of how strong our squad really is this season.

After the game, Azpilicueta reflected with the media on what was a wonderful night, commenting,

"We showed Arsenal we have the better squad and now we are trying to go first in the league."

"We dominated the team who are top of the table in their own stadium and that was a nice feeling."

"We controlled the game and played with confidence and showed that we have a strong squad."

"Every player showed that they can come into the team and keep the side at 100 per cent to keep fighting for the title."

"Our target is to get to the end of the season with the option to still win every trophy and with the quality in our squad we can do that."

"We are still growing up as a team but we only have two points less than Arsenal in the league."

"And we know they have two very difficult games coming up against Liverpool and Manchester United."

"We also have a tough game at Newcastle this weekend but if we all keep improving I think we can soon be first."

That would be great, but despite not being a regular in the first team, at the moment, the young Spaniard was quite reflective when pushed on the subject, further adding,

"It is true that I am not playing a lot of games but the season is young."

Indeed it is and there will be more than a few twists and turns as t unfolds in front of our eyes.

An absolute and complete professional who works so hard for the team, he would get his chance sooner rather than later. Other players should emulate him
