'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Schwarzer`s Thoughts!

As we put the Champions League on hold for a few weeks, as we wait for the knockout stages to commence, Mark Schwarzer has reflected on what was a remarkable night for him.

The Fulham keeper, who made his Champions League debut a the ripe old age of forty-one, also had a few words for those who have criticized our play recently, remarking after our 1-0 win on Wednesday evening,

"Nobody will care in February how we got through, what matter is that we got through."

"There`s no point playing fantastic football in the group and then getting knocked out in the last sixteen."

"Chelsea showed a couple of years ago it`s not necessarily the team that performs best on the day that wins but that it can come down to the determination and desire."

"At this club it is definitely something we`ve got, plus the added bonus of having world-class players."

"Who says dreams don`t come true, particularly at the age of 41?"

"I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to play in the Champions League and feel very honoured the manager trusted me."

"I thanked him afterwards. It was a great night. With finished with the result we wanted and top of the group."

Indeed we did and perhaps those critics who continue to lampoon our performances might want to think back to a certain night in an Italian city when we looked dead and buried but not only got through that tie but went on to lift the famous old trophy,

Football, as the Chelsea legend that is Jimmy Greaves once said, is a funny old game!

Give him some games and let him compete with Cech in earnest. Apart from one 'howler' moment, he has been solid.
