Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1

Chelsea took all three points in a thrilling encounter with Liverpool this afternoon.

Chelsea got the action underway but were to fall behind to an early goal. A matter of minutes into the game, Eto`o fouled Henderson, outside of the area. When the ball was floated in by Courtinho, a tussle between Ivanovic and Suarez saw the ball fall invitingly for Skrtel to slam in into the net from four yards out.

The Blues responded well and Lampard thought he`d struck the equalizer when from twenty-five yards out his shot appeared destined for the top corner of the net. Unfortunately Mignolet had other ideas and somehow tipped it over the bar.

But with 17 minutes on the clock Chelsea did draw level when a swift counter-attack saw the ball fed, by Oscar, to Hazard who smashed in a sumptuous curling shot from just outside the area.

Chelsea were now playing some fine attacking football and Luiz, fed by Willian, ballooned a shot way over the bar. Liverpool, pushing forward, saw Allen burst into the six yard box but Cahill was on hand to produce a great saving tackle. On the half-hour mark Ivanovic limped off to be replaced by Cole.

Thirty-four minutes into the game Chelsea edged ahead for the first time. The goal came after Luiz chipped a ball out wide to Azpilicueta and his ball in was worked into the danger area by Oscar for Eto`o to nudge the ball towards the goal, Mignolet could only shovel the bar into the net just inside the post.

As half time approached, Cech was forced into a save from Allen, as he burst into the area and with the three added minutes played out, Chelsea had the lead at half time.

Half Time - Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1

Chelsea emerged for the second half without Lampard who had picked up a thigh strain, Mikel replaced him.

The half didn`t get off to the best of starts with Terry and Luiz picking up yellow cards, the card picked up by the Brazilian meaning he`ll serve a one-game suspension.

Liverpool, pushing forward, tried to get back on level terms ad so nearly did when Cole conceded a free kick and from the resulting ball thrown into the box, Sakho saw his header loop against the cross bar.

Chelsea had a chance to put the game to bed when a superb through ball from Eto`o saw Hazard presented with a chance but the Belgian was caught in two minds and eventually saw a shot go wide.

Eto`o was the next to benefit from some good approach play when he was put through by Hazard but his powerful shot, towards the near post, was turned over the bar by Mignolet.

Suarez, having a relatively quiet game, saw Cech easily cope with a volley from the edge of the area before Chelsea dealt comfortably with two free kicks our opponent won just outside the area. Eto`o earned a free kick for Chelsea but Luiz free kick hit the wall and any danger was averted.

Oscar, coming more and more into the game, saw a shot skim past the post with Cech then being forced to turn a deflected shot, from Johnson, around his own post.

Hazard, diving in from the left flank, drove a shot against the side netting before Cahill took Suarez out with a do-or-die tackle that saw the defender booked. Jose made a late change, bringing on Torres for a limping Eto`o and the substitute almost scored, driving in along the line and forcing Mignolet to save low down.

Meanwhile Chelsea were fortunate to survive a penalty appeal when Eto`o clearly fouled Suarez after Azpilicueta had won the ball off of the Uruguayan.

In four minutes of stoppage time Chelsea wound the clock down but Oscar and Lucas were involved in a spat that saw Oscar booked.

Phew!!!!!
Since1963
For the 1st time this season i will done to jose, this is what i want to see, free flowing, nerve racking footy, not parking the bus every darn time.
oscarr
*Well done jose*

Great end to 2013 . Upwards and Onwards! KTBFFH!
Blue Krusaders
Lampard was immense before his injury, luiz was top notch, i think luiz should be our starting dm from now on. And iva's injury is a blessing in disguise making way of azpi to be reinstated.
oscarr
And these are the same players some said "where not good enough"? SMH.
oscarr
Luiz is a fighter, he played well today. Hazard is my MOTM hands down, he was tired but still tried hard in tearing Johnson and Sakho apart, his goal was suberb, he needs to shoot more often, he will score more. Lamps was key to our domination in the 1st half, we looked disjointed when he came off. Mikel was solid as a DM. Cole is no more Cole. Azpi was great today he is a better RB than Iva. Jose prefers Iva @RB cos he is a beast & a fighter. Cahill is underrated & Liverpool are overrated.
SameX
I love the tempo of our game today, and we bullied 'pool for every single pass. Luiz was solid in the midfield today, I hope Jose experiments with him more at that position. Willian has gelled so much with the team and his combo with Hazard today was simply amazing. Overall we had our best display so far in the BPL today imo. Bring on Southampton....Chelsea to the top
KLblue
Once Liverpool scored in the 3rd minute I knew we were going to win. We seem to need an incentive to hit top gear. Scoring an early goal against CFC @the bridge will be your undoing. Lol!!
SameX
Congrats to all!! Fantastic win and 3 points, resilient and passionate. High tempo and press after early howler. Sakho's header hitting the post and Eto'o crazy trip on Suarez inside box were incidents that went our way!! Lamps', who was top notch, injury disrupted the plan as did Iva's losing 2 subs before HT. But lads fought hard and that's what we need!! Hazard, Willian, Oscar were brilliant and right choices as was Luiz in an unfamiliar role, Azpi showed his class at RB time and time again. Cahill was superb. Cech and JT solid. I have to say Eto'o scored the winner worked hard but became a liability in 2nd half. Cole was loose but improved and tightened up. Mikel ok and Torres sharp in a short spell and alas should have scored!!
syed230183_chelseafc
We could have scored more!! Our tempo and pressing was superb and Liverpool couldn't handle it, but chances were fluffed as usual, but we kept control of game, worked hard as a unit, that was the key factor!! #ktbffh
syed230183_chelseafc
Atleast we won't be relegated this season we have reached the magical 40points. Lol.
oscarr
@samex i don't think they 're overrated, it could have gone either way in the 2nd half..remember the sakho header?, they have been hit hard by injuries, when they get all their players fit they will be in contention for top4.
oscarr
Great performance.... The early goal was Liverpool's downfall... Luiz was awesome in midfield, I don't think Mourinho will retain him there though.... Mourinho certainly prefers Ramires and Lampard in pivot....
Latunvic
I am simply over joyed....This is surely my belated Xmas gift,,and please guys hand me a beautiful NEW YEAR gift at Southampton
KLblue
Azpi is my guy

Onwards and Upwards. This Race is going to the Wire. Hope we will be able to maintain our momentum. KTBFFH
StamfordDLion
After a long time, one of our strikers (Eto) scored in a League Match. Long may this continue.
StamfordDLion
Never watched the game but am so so happy we won the match.3 points in the bag 2014 here we come.
blue5
I think Liverpool are not doing bad though and can still make top 3 or 4... They didn't do too bad today considering the injuries in their team...remember they played us with Gerrard, Sturridge, Moses, Flanagan and Sakho all unavailable.... I think they still have a chance if all those guys return soon enough....
Latunvic
Good to see jose finally using luiz in midfield after he said he will never do that..hopefully jose continues making other right decisions irrespective of what has been said or principles
Ken4CFC
In btw, massive victory and an impressive performance (especially in the 1st half),we can consolidate on that for a better 2014
Ken4CFC
When liverpool scored i was like " damn here we go again " but then we came alive. i was impressed , we seem to have lots of players on suspension all of a sudden , and also we beat liverpool in the league and damn it has been a while , good game by the boys , hazard does not do that run across the pitch anymore , which makes me happy , hopefully mata starts against southampton , we have to get a result even if it is a draw
Don capon
We played very well today, best performance of the season for us so far, specially that first half. Luiz at CM was such a surprise and he did so well! I hope we play him there more often because today we could see the advantages of having a good/fast ball distribution from the pivot. Massive win! We hadn't beat Liverpool for three and a half years, it was about time! KTBFFH
Carloss86
Kudos to all the players, coach and the stamford bridge faithful for making my day today, what a great match full of passion, desire and hunger to win, more of this please and my man of the match goes to azpilicueta hat off to him he play the game of his life against liverpool from left back to right back and his cross for the second goal his crucial honourable mention also goes to hazard who his a turn in the flesh for liverpool defence constantly threating them with his marauding runs and he score an exquistive goal more of that and please and thanks to the rest of the team from cahill, terry, lampard in his 45minute, willian who is full of energy always running just like ramires and liuz what a brillant game from the brazillian and finally our stricker score goals kudos to all the team you really make my day now i have a bragging right against my liverpool friend. We should always KTBFFH wherever we may be.
Tosco
Yeah a bit of shuffling required. Lamps and Iva injured. Luiz suspended. Rami back though. Another tough encounter waiting in Southampton away!
syed230183_chelseafc
What a game. Game of class. Dey all played ok
Oladsomething
Hazard is just something else. what a player!!!
ChelseaLover123
Just play Cech Azpi-Cahill-Terry-Cole Rami-Essien Willan-Mata-Hazard T9 vs Southampton
SameX
Draw the big guns away and destroy them@ the bridge.
SameX
Great win lads, more of that. The moment I saw Luiz was starting in midfield I felt positive about the victory. For some reason I can't explain I hate watching Mikel against liverpool because they have a way of making him look really bad. Our midfield lost touch when he came on with most of the fluidity leaving with Lampard. Hope to see this same performance against Southampton.
Louis Lancuv
RT @TeamChelseaFC: ChelseaTV says Mikel was ill today, so credit to him for putting in a decent performance today
Haykinz
where can i download goals against liver
habbo
GREAT PERFORMANCE and FANTASTIC WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I have to say.
don delsy
I just have to say Congrats to the Team And its Manager today for the totally deserved and unexpected win ... and I just want to say lets see a little less name-calling in the Match Day Moments ..please
Blue_Mel
@Blue-Mel I apologise man.... cos Im one of the culprits... We cool man?
Tunez
I like the free form and the working together of our team. Did you guys notice Oscar/Willian/Hazard all clustered on the left of midfield at the touch line winning the ball and then getting it forward together?
Pavel Permiachkin
Not having been a fan of Jose's return ( footballing style wise ) I'll give credit where it's due. The first half was the best display by CFC for a long time. i don't understand why they don't press like that more often? Great result
unclezillion
Good game good win even Jose was delighted with our performance why wouldn't he? We have third most complete team in the league behind City and Arsenal the later because of their consistent in management
OBEX
If we had played this way against Arsenal we could have won!
OBEX
Great win. Massive response. Haven't seen the lads that hungry since I think Arsenal home last term (or away, cannot recall) whereby we were banshees in the first half then fell off in the second. Nice to see two halves come together. Hope the best for Lamps. He was superb.
ForeverChels
We are already looking deadly, with a few additions, I can't imagine what our play will look like in our bright future. Free-flowing, pressing, harassing, creating, so nice to see rather than the bore fest of inviting pressure and hitting on the counter. Really hope Mata starts against S'ton. Lovely match.
ForeverChels
If we can stabilise our CM area and be more efficient in final third, we will be more comfortable and score more. Even last night we missed an assortment of chances to bury the game, Eto'o missing few, and others missing numerous half chances. Our corner and free kick taking needs to improve, it is something that's become sloppy of late.
syed230183_chelseafc
Very enjoyable win to all!! i really enjoyed the game. Credit to our defenders with their marking and top awareness to clear any sniff of danger. I can easily pick hazard or azpi for MOM but no for this match i wouldn't do that as the whole team was just immense. Etoó battled it out, got tired and had to be helped out of the field tho he got careless with his tackle on suarez. Luiz in midfield in the absence of rami was a huge welcome as an agressive body was needed beside lamps who was nothing short of spectacular in the first half. And to round it off didn't yall just enjoy that beauty of a goal from hazard together with is all round display? For those that might have been rating coutinho as per with him i guess they saw the different between 32M and 10M yesterday. KTBFFH. by the way can someone tell me what COYB means?? been struggling with it for like eternity now loll
kolagold25
gud game,,,i ws a bit down wen liver score,,bt got d faith wen we equalize,,,d dfence s reali comemdable silencing d world best strike in Suarez,,kudos guys bt illing to see mata nxt match,,apzi s so gud,,beta dan cole at LB n beta iva at RB,,he s jez a bombs,i tink we did wel to gt him,
dreamz
i see some people have been questioning why we couldn't play the same way against arsenal. We were away, the motivation is quite different from one player to another, we were leaking goals than a basket before then and we couldn't afford to be just too open moreso when we continue to fluff the numerous chances we created. Let's stop comparing one game to another, there are alot of things to consider before a strategy is developed. All we can do is trust in the coach who didn't become a worldclass just because we tag him the word but actually earned it from his expoilt.
kolagold25
coyb= come on you blues
kojoAntwi
I wasnt expectin the win to be honest but am glad it came. so we can perform this much, then wat have we been waitin for.hope we keep uping the tempo and badly lookin forward to atleast 2 new faces. I also observe, we seem to play with greater zeal against the bigger clubs I.e bayern, city, arsenal, utd, now liverpool
jim shimfe
Sky Sports; Liverpool close to signing Muhammed Salah. Very deadly winger, just exactly what they need.
SameX
SameX, if they do, Salah will become the 'New Suarez', when the Uruguayan is eventually sold; heard he's got a £70m buyout clause "for foreign clubs only" in his new contract with the Scousers. Speedy deadly tricky devil of a winger, exactly what we need, too. I'd readily drop Schürrle or KDB for the Moroccan if given the chance! Lol @latunvic, mate so Sakho was "unavailable" in the match you watched? Which Sakho?? Smh. Work on that. Great win boys. Carefree & KTBFFH ;-)
HGH Magic
@kolagold - Come on You Blues!
