'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Finally the performance we'd been waiting for.

At long last a Chelsea performance to be proud of.

After a lot of scrappy wins finally a great win and a great performance to go with it. Not only did were we a real threat going forward, our defence was as solid as I'd seen them for a long time.

I have been very critical of Hazard and Willian in recent weeks, but yesterday both players were superb in the case of Willian probably had his best game in a Chelsea shirt.

Whenever Hazard had the ball I felt like he was going to make something happen, Willian put in a fantastic all round display, whenever he didn't have the ball he was working hard for the team defensively.

The defence looked strong yesterday and put in the kind of performance we are used to seeing from a Chelsea back four. I'd like to give a special mention to Gary Cahill, when Mourinho was appointed manager a lot of people thought he wouldn't get much playing time or may even be sold. How wrong were they, he's established himself as the number one partner for Terry and showed us exactly why yesterday with some superb interceptions and clearances.

If we can carry on playing like this we have a great chance of winning the title.

yes that's the performance I want, oppa gung-ho style. I'd says it before that we will play like that when we go behind just like the game against southampton. Just I wish that we got the 2nd goal after 70th min so that we didn't have to revert to defensive style where we have to face a nervy moment for a longer period...
Chelsea n Torres Fan
It wasn't flawless overall, but the 40 mins after conceding the goal in first half, our play was something to watch. Aggressive, physical, pressing relentlessly, and flowing attacks one after another, moving ball quickly including transition from defence to attack. it all sort of clicked at that time. But make no mistake still there are lots of things to improve and we can be even better. We still missed chances, and could have buried the game much earlier. The CM area once Lamps got subbed, slowed down and disjointed like many matches before. We still need to address the CM area and improve finishing in final third in terms of final pass and scoring more goals. Liverpool's genuine chance was Sakho hitting the bar off a header, and 2 Suarez penalty appeals, otherwise our defence held strong but were more exposed in 2nd half.

when teams walked into the garden of eden we would unlished hazard of destruction on them.

It's been a long time coming, and what a way to finish 2013 on a high, am now optimistic this season that we are in the league to win it this season.
Tosco
basicaly we win games because of individual brilliance of hazard, wilian, etc. tho they won ystday, there's no real positiv signs tht d team is working 2wards playing d kind of futbol tht can b produced by d likes of wilian, oscar, hazard, mata and luiz. it all boils down tho to d coache's philosophy of futbol.
Bassey Asindi
Bassey Asindi, Bit more to it than that! We also won because Terry & Cahill had "the world's greatest player on current form" in their back pocket. Was Suarez even playing? 19 goals in 12 games, hat-tricks left, right & centre and he comes to Stamford Bridge and after the 3rd minute did NOTHING!!!

team is improving and thats a good sign. 1st half against swansea was good and yesterdayz game was at a much better pace. a class pivot in jan wud really be a massive boost!
Blue Krusaders
Very good display by the boys, movement was with the ball and without the ball was very good. They cut out most of the supply link to suarez very proud of the display. Most of the young players in team now have experience in the league, the second part of the season this is when you separate the men from the boys.

Like I've always said, its not entirely about the flow of the game or passing, its the attitude and desire to win. The mentality to grow into the managers philosophy is what would turn out to be of huge benefit to the lads and Chelsea in the long run. We will have great performances and some ***** ones along the way,the most important factor is to keep our mind on what lies ahead. Congrats to the lads and the Manager for putting in a top shift. We were deserved winners, tactically.
nelyvanile
Great all round display by the guys yesterday.....but we still need to improve on defending set play.....chelsea seem to have let in the highest number of goals from set play this season.....hoping for a league winning display in 2014..
angeleyes
Didn't we play this style against Swansea already? Or people mean against a big team?
Pavel Permiachkin
We don't need negativity here today after such a brilliant performance yesterday. More of that please.
don delsy
A bit worried about Hazard. It seems now fouling him is the norm and the refs look the other way, including penalties. Hope it does not effect his game as he seems frustrated at times.
Pavel Permiachkin
The lads had a very good game yesterday. They worked extremely hard and moved the ball quicker than before, the facy that we had both Luiz and lampard both who are superb ball passers in the pivot men as that the ball got to our attackers quicker giving them more space to run into then before. My MOTM however was azpi, the lad has grown I. Leaps and bounds since his first start for Mourinho and the reason he is starting before Ashley was immediately obvious the moment he was moved to RB following Iva's injury as Sterling immediately became more effective down the wing. If reports are to be believe, ahltetico are offering us Like + cash for Coutious, I did say we sign him up immediately and also Guarin too. I strongly believed that we would be far more dangerous and our strikers scoring more regularly if we can sort out the pivot/midfield challenges. Another player that impressed me immensely yesterday was willian, what he lacks in skill and dribbling ability like Hazard, he makes up by his superb work rate and he virtually covered every blade of grass yesterday. the guy certainly is not regretting his decision to drop spurs for us now.
Dwonder
Glad we signed Willian. He is turning into if not already an undroppable player for us.
StamfordDLion
@nely, i concor when you say the attitude and desire go a long way. this is the missing link between the new chelsea and old one
kolagold25
so whenever hazard or willian happens to perform well then it becomes a victory based on individual performance? I take huge exception to that
kolagold25
i have been saying this for many seasons now. The midfield combo, i.e. Ramirez - Lampard - Mikel are not compatible. We must find a decent player and then develop a partnership of Ramirez with him or develop someone else with him. The first time Jose experiments with Luiz in that role and it hits off. Imagine if we had a proper midfielder along with Ramirez, we would simply kill teams off with the squad that we have. We are only one signing away from taking most team in the PL to the cleaners. I can only hope that Jose persists with Luiz until we sign someone good for this role.
Chelsea-fan
Great performance now we need to follow it up with the same determination and desire
herefordchelsea
Lamps was sensational in the first half and showed he's still a class act.We were not as good in the second half but Cahill,Willian and Hazard were great throughout.
THEBREEZE
It's was a solid performance from the team. Solid in the defence and aggressive when there was need to be. Azpi has once again showed he is better on right back with the cross from byline for the 2nd goal. Looking forward to the Southampton game.
jollyheart Torres
@Bassey Asindi Cmon man...... Are you kidding me??? How dyu want us to play then; if I may ask!....!
Tunez
I would like to see Ramires and David Luiz in the pivot. That would be dynamic. Also want more Schurrle. I would try him up top.
LABison
why isn't anyone singing the praise of Cesear Azpillicueta? in the game as a LB, he pegged Raheem Sterling and Glen Johnson back and restricted their movement down their right flank, but when he moved to RB, look how dangerous Sterling became with cole in, and we started to see Johnson come forward on numerous occasions. plus Aspillicueta's contribution to our second goal and he assisted Terry and Cahill in keep Luis Suarez quiet. He's my player of the day, period.
Tugay08
I'm more comfortable with Branislav Ivanovic playing as a center back than a right back, our right wing became dangerous and unbearable when Cesear Aspillicueta moved to RB.
Tugay08
And for those crying that Jose isn't playing other players, and choosing to forget that it's a long season, well now we have injuries and suspensions coming in, any of our players can be suspended via the card accumulation rule, as it is we are without Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard owing to injury, and David Luiz, owing to suspension, John Terry and Gary Cahill could follow if they pick up yellow cards in their next two games.
Tugay08
Surprised some people will disregard the performance of Terry, Cahill, Azpi and Luiz and only give credit to willian and hazard....
KAKUfrank
There are reports that Inter Milan Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was @the Bridge for our game vs Liverpool fueling talks of our interest in Fredy Guarin, seems its only a matter of time before we get an official confirmation of his capture. Essien's agent also said there is a huge possibility he leaves CFC in January.
SameX
And Essien/Gaurin swap deal would be great.
foreign_viewer
Is any youth team player ready to play in midfield? Ake was good. Where is he?

^ask google.

Bassey Asindi wow some fans really are hard to please! against arsenal the TEAM and i say team as the whole lot of them played fantastically! the back 5 were terrific and JT,cahill and Azpi were just awesome. Azpi has to be the the best full back in the EPL and i say full back as at present he could fill left and right back in the team of the league season at the same time. Luiz though only had some thing like 73% pass completion still pulled out some great passes and covered a hell of a lot of ground. Also his passing was more forward thinking and he runs forward at pace into dangerous areas and makes opposition players go onto there back foot and makes space for our attacking trio in front of him. Never have i seen cfc team play with such pace power and speed of break in that first 45 minutes. everything seemed to click and they even were closing down 2 men to one each time a liverpool player got the ball and liverpool struggled to find a pass as they were harried to fast. fantastic and i hope this is a sign of the kind of play jose is trying to get long term. With the addition of a top striker and a world class CDM to balance the squad i think we could see a fantastic team taking shape. looking forward to the next 10 years with jose and this team of young stars and the loanees we have to come back also.
