Matic / Guarin

As we all have a clue about our recent transfer targets, and as we all know where the holes are in the team, between the aforementioned, who would improve our midfield drastically, in exception of financial consideration, who do we really need?

I repeat NEED not WANT, as we all know the difference, and fill what is needed in our midfield between the latter or the former.

Your opinions would be immensely appreciated!

Guarin for me.... Matic is a bit similar to Mikel. Guarin is more versatile....

we need a combative pivot player, I am afraid these two don't really cut it for me, we should be looking to get a dlp in the mould of rakitic, cabaye, or gundog an if we can lure them with UCL football, football is not all about brawn anymore, and I think if we are to get a new DM then Mikel and essien needs to leave, to answer Ur question we need gundog an who has all the qualities absent in our team, buy recently he seem to be injured at all time, cabaye is another

I don't think Gundogan and Rakitic are combative, Cabaye, maybe... I may be wrong but my understanding is that we want to sign Guarin for the DM(Mikel) role not the DLP(Lampard) role. Rakitic or Gundogan will be fine for the DLP role but we'll still need that strong hardworking body behind the DLP, that is where I think Guarin comes in. My preferred choice though is Vidal.... for DM..

yeah neither for me as well. we need to sort that position for once and for all. so we sud go for gundogan. hez world class imo but his fitness not so sure.

very good question AD_blue, and nice observations haykinz, Vidal a times plays in that position for have this season, these players are Jose types of players, hardworking and disciplined with an eye for goal

I have given my report on guarin before on here and i will pick him over Matic. He has everything matic possess with an added explosiveness and good eyes for goal. The only low part was that i didn't realise he was in his 26/27 even still we need some of this having been signing lots of youngies for some time now. he's like a combo of rami and the bison

juve* guarin is good, most likely better than most of our pivot player but very inconsistent

I mean I have seen him play a few times and he basically does the same stuff people myself included slag Mikel off for. What makes this guy such an attractive proposition? His price tag?

desmond i also do not think gundogan is combative. we actually need a dlp but not as much as another combative, strong and attacking body like guarin in our midfield because this is the epl and its a bit rugged. We need to realise dlp players have certain/a time in the game when they are most useful alas the way mou brought modric in at madrid when manU got a red card. We can't use them continually in the BPL only if they come with some combativeness in them and they rarely do.

@AD_blue, that's a nice question and how about this; remove mikel from the nigerian team and put matic. Would the team improve for it?... i know my answer

Guarin is a fighter from what I have seen so far, but meh, I'll stand by my not so popular view that Mikel is better than both of them, combined ;)

@Haykinz... I know Guarin and Vidal are B2B midfielders but they can also play as DM just like Ramires is currently doing for us... My point is if we buy either Guarin or Vidal it will be for the DM role not DLP. Both players are versatile which is why I prefer them to Matic...

I dont see any of Gundogan, Rakitic as combative CMs, they remind me of Modric.

At least watch Matic play before you say Mikel is better than him. The kid is now a man and a beast on d pitch, he is rated the best CDM in Portugal. His passing, movement and vision are incredible. Try watching him against Porto on Monday.

We dont need a Modric kind of CDM that will be extremely creative but weak defensively. We just need a CDM that is very solid defensively and can still play quick accurate passes to the front 4, a typical example of this is Alonso. Matic comes close to him, he is solid defensively and will cover the back 4 well, he moves the ball quickly, he will facilitate swift transition from defence to attack. He will not prevent Rami from going forward and joining the attack where he is very dangerous with his deadly runs and goal threat. The attacking band will be free to an extent and the likes of Mata and Hazard will easily concentrate on their thing.

guarin is more of a b2b kind of player at best, well that's my own opinion anyway, if gundogan isnt combative then I wonder who is.

we need a new Micheal Essien, and for me, that is Freddy Guarin, quick attack transition and adds steel defensively. i have seen about 6 to 7 internazionale games for the sole purpose of watching what Guarin does on and off the ball, if you ask me, he should replace Ramires in the team, and a new creative cdm/dlp to replace Mikel, maybe use David Luiz for this role and we'll be sorted.

Guarin plays DM as secondary position, it's on the internet, check it... CM is his main position but he sometimes play as DM or AM... Moreover, Inter uses 4-3-3 formation which suits Guarin to play in his preferred CM role. The best way we can utilize a player like Guarin in our pivot is to play him in the DM role or play him and Ramires together (if we want to be very defensive) and allow them interchange...

samex - if anything, modric is not weak defensively.. that is one of his main strengths and one of the most important reasons that such a creative player is played so deep a lot of the time..

Guarin for me all the way. I have seen Matic play a couple of times and aside the fact that he is a little faster than Mikel, he has nothing over Mikel. His awareness, ball retention skills, and ability to read the game , and shield t back four is not as developed as Mikel. Guarin on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. He is very strong, mobile, aggressive and can play in multiple positions across the midfield. He is as hardworking as Ramires and more technical anwith the ball with the ability to score goals. Aside from their respective skills, Guarin would cost us far less than we would have to pay for Matic. But with the comment that Mourinho made yesterday that he is not interested in either Guarin or Rodriguez, I think Mourinho favours Matic ahead of Guarin but is been overruled by the board because Guarin would be a cheaper alternative to Matic. Ifingers crossed on this one but Guarin would be want we need because of his versatility and gameplay

Guarin is exactly the type of player we dont want at the moment. A avg pass accuracy of 72%, a goal conversion rate of just 7.3% (3 goals from 41 shots), technically poor and as mentioned by many inter milan fans as hugely inconsistent. He has been really poor whenever he was used in deeper position in midfield both at Porto and Inter, now has found some success at Inter after they started using him as a AM Matic seems to be a much reliable and definitely an upgrade to all other midfield option we have now at chelsea now. A more creative player of the likes of Gundogan,Rakitic,Cabaye etc playing alongside him pivot would take our team to the next level
