'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Record Breaker

As I predicted, ahead of the fixture with Hull City, Petr Cech eclipsed the club clean sheet record held by Peter Bonetti.

Cech now has 209 clean sheets to his name, a remarkable feat.

However, yesterday also saw Cech make it 150 clean sheets in the Premier League which sees him second in the all-time Premier League list, trailing David James by 19.

But we`d like to point out that Cech, in keeping those 150 clan sheets has the highest clean-sheet ratio of 48%, just ahead of Pepe Reina on 47% and Edwin van der Sar on 42%

When asked about the record after the victory at the KC Stadium, Cech modestly remarked,

"The most important thing is we keep winning games."

"We want to win the league and, hopefully, clean sheets will help us achieve that goal."

"We have just won an important game, now we are top of the league for the first time in a long time. Now we want to stay there."

Indeed we do, but that landmark figure of 209 deserves to be mentioned does it not!

Legend. Hopefully Courtois will break the record some day

I've seen every Chelsea keeper from Bonetti to the present day & there is no question, Cech is the best in that time by a distance. The club have one hell of a decision to make come the summer.

Really tough decision to make in the summer.....

Not as tough as you think DonD. Jose did it with Cudicini in 2005 while the Italian was reigning Chelsea POTY, for Cech - a rookie. He can choose to give Courtois a chance to create his own history with us or risk losing the supremely gifted Belgian to one of the big European 'hawks'. There's no gainsaying Courtois is ready - have won titles at the expense of no less than Real Madrid and Barcelona, etc. Petr and Lampard now all own their records and history - clean sheets & goals scored - I guess common sense suggests they be replaced in the summer with Courtois and Gundogan or Rakitic, respectively; or better still, Petr helps us - steps aside as No.2(for the Cup games, which further helps him extend his clean sheet record) in a win-win situation for everyone!

legendary feat Peter, thanks for the joy over the years and I hope it continues either as no.1 or backup to courtois.
