Hat trick Heroes

Hat trick Heroes

While there have been quite a few scorers of hat tricks for us in the Premiership, Lamps, Drogba and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink all having hit a treble on 3 occasions, they are not common against Man. U.

The last Chelsea player to score a league hat trick v Manure was of course Lukaku, but in West Brom colours at the end of last season.

The last to do so while actually playing for us predates the Premier League, it was Seamus O'Connell, who played his football as an amateur and died just under a year ago in February 2013.

Despite his name he was in fact English born although the family originate from Garvagh, in Co Derry, Northern Ireland, just up the road from my own birthplace, a few of them being buried in my local churchyard.

They were/ are a football family, but Gaelic football as opposed to soccer. If you've never seen a Gaelic football match, well it's a bit like the old Chelsea v Leeds United Cup Final of 1970, in other words a game for real men, with handling of the ball permitted.

Seamus got his hat trick on his Chelsea debut in October 1954, but it didn't count for much, we lost 6-5, must have been a hell of a match.

I wish his form would continue, a scoring striker is the only missing cog so far in this team if nemanja magic performs as expected.
