Why Juan Mata MUST NOT LEAVE CHELSEA

Why Juan Mata MUST NOT LEAVE CHELSEA

A lot can change in a few hours. Since my last article, it seems Man United have made an official bid for Juan Mata in the region of £35 million. Chelsea are apparently readying themselves to reject the offer in an attempt to drive up the sum. Bloody right.

If this transfer goes through, we are letting go of probably the best number 10 in the league [No Arsenal, Ozil isn't even close] to a direct rival. United. Manchester bloody United. I have faith in Mourinho, I really do. I place total and unconditional trust in his methods and truly believe he will lead us to greatness. But I really think this is a mistake. A mistake of massive proportions that could have just the wrong effect on our season and just the right effect on relegation battlers United.

The Oscar/Mata conundrum rumbles on in the background of all this. Don't get me wrong, Oscar is a superb player. He's fast, agile and fantastic on the ball. He's better off the ball than Mata, no question. But is 'better off the ball' a quality we look for in a number 10?

Obviously, I wouldn't dream of criticizing Jose but lets take a look at some stats. Mata made 63 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring 19 and assisting 35 whereas Oscar, from a similar position, played 64, scored 12 and assisted 11. Contrast? Ok, so it was Oscar's first season but it was only Mata's second. Neither are established veterans of the Premier League and I believe Mata is still our number 10. My point is something of a broken record as plenty of people have made it before but I do feel that Oscar possesses the qualities to be a holding midfielder. The stats speak for themselves. Mata doesn't track back as effectively as Oscar. We've established that so why are we persisting with Oscar in the number 10 role? I actually don't think he's been especially good recently and I'm adamant he'd be more effective in the holding role alongside the likes of Matic/Ramires. Mata, Willian and Hazard? Sounds good to me.

Additionally, why are we selling him to United?! They strung us along nicely with Rooney and probably laughed as we floundered with Eto'o and Demba Ba. It appears that club decorum states that the next logical step, having been mugged off by United, is to sell them one of our best players at discount price? Yer, definitely, sounds logical.

As I write, Spanish football expert Guiliem Balague has tweeted 'All agreed. Juan Mata will be a Manchester United player. 45 million euros. All will be announced very soon.' Bloody hell. I mean speculation is often fictitious rubbish but this is sounding more and more concrete.

Still nothing official from either club and the longer it remains that way then the more speculation will churn. Mata is a fan favourite, a modest, down to earth type of guy and even the pedestal that Chelsea fans have placed Mourinho on will be shaken if we sell Mata.

I will be watching the United game for any signs of Mata in the crowd. If he is there, he'll hopefully be dissuaded by the pathetic band of cheating individuals they call players. All I can hope is that, if we do sell the special Juan, we are doing it with a view of buying big for a world class striker in the summer.

One last point. When the BBC come out and say something about a transfer, you know its happening. They are about as close as I get to official without the clubs getting involved. However, I had a look through the archives and it seems they aren't very accurate when it comes to Mata. When Chelsea signed him in 2011, they described him as a 'winger' and Andy Brassell said that, although he could play in the middle, he 'would be very surprised if he did for Chelsea '. Astute judgement there mate. Lets hope their supposed 'analysis' is recurrent in quality this time around.

I'm bracing for Thursday to be when Mata turns up for his medical and announced as a Manure player this evening. S**t, can this day get any worse.

I wanna cry.. Mata has been such a wonderful servant for the club this past two years.. He hasn't been given enough chances in his preferred role this year. Oscar isn't having a brilliant season imo, and who can say that we would be worse in the league if Mata was the preferred one for the number 10 spot? Just saw some videos of Juan Mata's assists and goals for Chelsea and then him celebrating the titles and im so sad.. And we're selling to manure! WTF!!! I dont understand this at all...

And by the way I agree 100% with this article, we should've tried Oscar in Lampard's position. A pivot of Rami+Oscar or Matic+Oscar supporting Hazard, Mata, Willian would be amazing to watch. Why couldn't we try this for ONE game????

There is no point keeping a £40m player if he can't do what the manager wants. We all know how good he can be with great vision, touch etc but he can't do all the stuff off the ball that Jose expects. He hasn't got the running power or physical power that's required to play the Jose tactics.Great player but not in a Jose team.

If we sell mata to United and midway through the season we are hit with injuries to oscar or hazard. suddenly our squad will look painfully thin. I hope this doesn't happen coz if it does, Mourinho will face the wrath of several angry Chelsea fans...

u all wanted jose to come and there u have it..he disrupted our best player far..in the 10 role he puts oscar and willian in his small pocket...so what now oscar and willian can have a ***** game but track back and we say they had a gd game..against united both of them were flops in the final third..and oscar has been overhyped this year..dnt get me wrong great player but he is hyped this year cuz of the mata situation..top assist last year and also 12 goals and suddenly nt deemed enough...wel thts jose for u a manager with no eye for creativeness or talent...and as i said he only looks to buy himself out of trouble and not bother wrking withing the club and he said tht himslef tht the club are willing to spend.. i mean we have 26 on loan players u cant say tht 4 or 5 of them are ready for a chance in the team albeit capital one or FA games.....we have the same squad profile as city bar the attackers and yet they destroy teams and play as if they are losing for the 90 mins and we sit back and look to snatch 1 goal and park the bus..the biggest mistake of the roman era....u dnt buy a ferrari and then ask someone who only knows how to handle a fiat to drive it

Well written article agree with most of your points but disagree with trying to blame the board specially emenalo. Immediately after the soton match jose said it publicly if mata wants to go he can leave later he started to back track from his statement with the quote he is still an integral part of the team but the door is still open if he wants to leave. I have heard people say give jose the power to buy the players he wants and sell so he can structure the team now we want to blame the board for selling to utd. Jose sanctioned the sale so let's forget about trying to blame the board, it wasn't the boards fault that jose couldn't fit mata into the team. Have we thought about maybe as soon as mata found out about the United interest he pushed for the move which was the only serious option for him.

Nadim Damaj...I trust in Jose, he has made me see the light. I do not begrudge him selling Mata, though it pains me, what I hate is the fact that Manure were going to struggle to make top 4, now they will make it easily and their demise will be a slower one than anticipated. The loan players you mention are not good enough yet, unless you want to sacrifice competitiveness for a couple of seasons you just have to come to terms with that. For me a win is a win...6-0/1-0 will yield three points. Biggest mistake of the Roman era was letting him go in the first place.

As a chelsea fan, i have never been emotionally attached to a player like i do juan mata, he is a complete gentle man and a terrific footballer with skills and techniques, i just don't know what to say about this whole scenario because if i do i will get ban on this site, how can we become so clueless that we have to hand over to manunited what they need after what they did to us about wayne rooney, i feel as if something is missing in me as i am no longer the brother my little sister know me to be, i get angry with the slightest of things, every thing is happening so fast that it is almost unreal, i just can't bring myself to imaging mata in red of manchester, every person involve in this deal have to bury there head in shame, and i hope we win the league because anything other than that we be castatrophy, what i know is dat head will surely roll if we don't invest the money to buy a striker, i wish mata well as he ventures to the red side of manchester and i thank him for his contribution during his time here

Well looks like it’s a done deal now! Sometimes our club does some horrendous business! This deal is going to come back and bite us in the a**...if we were smart we'd have done a loan deal and properly assess the situation in the summer! Last time we sold a good player to a rival club he went on to score a goal nearly every game he played (Sturridge) now Mata will be amazing at United, mark my words!! Terrible business....

We can moan all we like, but the fact is that we have an owner, and a board that know absolutely nothing about football or how to run a club. Its all very well opening Blue pitches in Malaysia so that they can generate shirt sales and then tell the word how well thebrand is doing. But the decisions since Roman has taken over have been laughable, Benitez being employed just about topped the lot. The sad reality is, that the club didn`t even understand what they were doing wrong on that one, and here lies the problem. Manchester United are a well oiled organisation and that is simply why they would never sell Heinze to Liverpool, or Rooney to us. we are the complete opposite, we are run by a bunch of newbee amateurs who have no concern about the feelings and concerns of real fans. The Cardiff owner changed the identity of the club from Blue to Red, The Hull owner wants to re brand the club to be called the Tigers. well we really any different. The CPO fiasco, Avram Grant, Rafael Benitez and now this. If the manager does not want a certain player then fine, but to sell our best player over the last 2 years to your most fiercest rival, quite frankly Roman, it beggars belief.

I hate see Mata leaving...But, this is better than seeing in the bench...I dont agree with Jose...But, it is clear that Mata will not be the player who will fit Jose's plans...then we should sell him rather than destroying his career....

Though not a fan of Jose tactics, it is our decision to bring him back though we had other good options...if thats the case, we should support the decision....Good luck to Mata...he will remembered at the same level of Zola....
