What's the Mata with the move?

As a Chelsea fan it pains me to see our best player for the last two seasons go to our title rivals (not this season though).

As a result of this, there is a lot of cry about us selling Mata to Manchester United but let's look critically at the situation.

1. Why should 40M sit on the bench or be a sub? That doesn't seem like good economic reasoning to me. A sale was always the best option.

2. Mata is a favourite of mine due to the amount of talent that he has. However he doesn't fit into the plans of our coach and for Mata`s sake, a move was the best option, particularly in light of the upcoming World Cup.

3. Salah coming in gives us an option we don't have now, pace. I liken him to Navas in terms of pace and he does know the back of the net. With him we have the option of lining him against a slow back 4 with a direct route to goal.

4. Finally, with Mata in the team, Manchester United have gotten stronger which may still impact on this seasons title challenge with them helping us to take points of our other challengers.

Why for you think they are complaining now? Don't let's forget that this brings in more funds into the club which will come in handy when buying that top class striker to complete our team.

So I ask again, what's the Mata with the move?

I will miss Mata love the guy and thought he would grow into a legend here. With that said I want to keep a good place in my heart for Mata and respect him but the usual moaners and trolls on this site are clouding that for me. Love Mata, hate the moaners and trolls.

Only wrong thing is its to a fierce rival. Makes them strong , their midfield has been crap for years and we provide them with a solution. Remember Modric , he gave transfer req. but spurs didnt let the him join us. And till date we dont have a dlp. So the main point is why rebuild a rival. Anyways we dont need anymore Mata articles. Goodbye mata and no goodluck when playing for manure.

Come to think about it MU has The easiest road usually when it comes to buying players off direct title rivals.

Time to move on. Hoping we build a potent squad to challenge on all fronts.

'Why should 40M sit on the bench or be a sub?'. that's really rich! why not force hazard out onto the bench, then; given the rumoured 60 mn tag, it would make even better economic reasoning. 60mn quid would buy us a whole team of wananbes too. and sell him to united as well, that way we'll sink all our rivals without a trace. delightful, some of the justification going around for what is clearly a highly suspect decision if not downright bad.

Johny the thing is results are going our way. And more recently even this "exciting" footy is being given to us.

pavel, no issues with that. but does that mean if we once again run into a bad vein of form, will the counter argument become valid? hardly works that way.

The results coincided with Luiz moving into the midfield and our strikers scoring otherwise we didn't even think that we will be going for the title.

Wish the lad the best of luck, obviously don't wish Man Utd well. All in all, fair move for both parties,Mata will get game time at Manchester Utd,and Chelsea gets a good sum of money to invest in more suitable signings. Ofcourse we're upset he went to Manchester United, but its said that's where the lad preferred, and he's too much of a humble guy to force to stay,or force to some other club. A transfer involves 3 parties...both clubs, the buyer and seller, and the player involved, and all have to be in agreement.

Emikolet that tired statement has been done to death here... There is no one who thinks Jose is god and can do no wrong. If you know anyone I want names and the ratio of those members to ones who don't. Johnny good point, the team will continue having ups and downs with Mata or not. I will miss the guy and feel terrible as to what happened with him, let's wait and see how this season and the next few go.

Well obviosly the matter is with United. though i don't think the signing will make them better than us as far as its the 'chosen one' in charge. mata will improve their squad and might as well give them the motivation to fight again but ManU is a club i just will like to beat or see loose over and over again and i won't like to see mata on the recieving end of my hate, banter and jest against them. i feel he wasn't ready to leave england nor become a bench player at chelsea so he moved. He might as well not stay long in ManU.

Didier is a legend at Chelsea Football Club and always will be, he stated that he would never play for another premier league club, that is the difference. Even Damien Duff refused to sign for Liverpool because of the fierce rivalry between the 2 clubs. Against Stoke on Sunday it will be very muted at the Bridge. The hard core fans will be present, but don`t expect to much cheering for Jose or Roman. Sadly our club lacks substance and directon, it just stumbles on from one PR disaster to another, always of its own making. Our best player should never have been sold to our biggest rivals, under any circumstances. The player might well just be a commodity to the club, but to us real fans, things run deeper than that and once again the club have proven to be oblivious of that fact. Just like they were when they employed Rafael Benitez.

@blue you really know what football is all about unlike some here who are just opportuned to have an internet connection and a site like this to show off their high standard of moral decadence. Fans are what make a club. Decision like this and that of benitez show that fans are not given the respect they deserve. Thanks for that point man.

@johnny CL. The reason Hazard isn't on the bench is because he fits into the way Jose wants to play, Mata doesn't. We need Hazard we don't need Mata its as simple as that. Can you not see that selling him will make us a better TEAM. As for selling him to Man U well I would have liked it more if he had gone back to spain, or another country but HE WANTED to go to Man U. Do we really have the right to stand in his way of his next true love lol. If you ask me good riddens to a player that will shed no tears for us.
