Can we buy Courtois back?
Happy belated Valentines' Day... here's hoping all your love for humanity, life, and everything Chelsea shone through.
Whilst Arsene Wenger and The Special One did their best to display love, albeit the tough love they have for each other on the day of love, I got thinking.
I've always promised myself I'll learn to write shorter articles, so here's hoping this one comes out short enough.
Atletico Madrid wants Thibaut "needs no introduction" Courtois. Never in doubt. They want him so bad they're offering all of Koke and Diego Costa plus £8m, according to reports!
Hmmm. Seems a fair enough package if not too good on the surface until you scratch inside and ask yourself why.
Oh, Thibaut has become a verb in Spain; 'thibauting'. And he's a rare gem.
Here's the deal. Chelsea probably need [and have reportedly asked for] these two Atleti players, though apparently don't feel obliged to lose Courtois as they see him as the future of the club.
So, why can't we do the deal; gift them Thibaut for a further 3 years, insert a buy-back option in his contract with the Rojiblancos, and take home the quid, striker and midfielder?
While this is obviously a win-win situation for all parties - extending even to remote parties like Petr Cech - I wonder what the line of thinking is in our front office.
You got a clue?
