The End Of An Era?
Ashley Cole is not a man accustomed to subtleties. When he was removed from the starting line-up in favour of Azpilicueta earlier in the season, Cole voiced his doubts about the club on the social media site, Twitter. To be fair, he has been a model professional on the pitch for Chelsea, even if his off-pitch exploits are a little more unsavoury.
Therefore, Cole shouldn't be too heavily damaged by Mourinho's latest comments on the 33 year old's future. The Chelsea boss has come out and said that Cole will not get more game time despite the looming prospect of a World Cup.
There has been much scrutiny over the left back's place in the England set-up, with Leighton Baines a commonly touted rival for that spot in the team. Mourinho's words will do nothing to appease an undoubtedly anxious Cole.
With the speculation growing over the futures of Lampard, Terry and Cech along with Cole, does this represent the end of an era for Chelsea? Should we be looking to begin the transition of these players out of the team or do they have more to offer?
