Courtois Is The Man!

Courtois Is The Man!

As Diego Costa powered in a close range header in the 83rd minute of the Champions League knock-out phase, he only had one man to thank for the significance of his goal. Thibaut Courtois, our 21 year old goalkeeper who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, pulled off two marvellous saves from a Kaka shot and Poli header, keeping Atletico on terms with Milan.

So the question about next season rears its head once again. Courtois really does look like the finished article, a powerful keeper who is both confident and agile. Do you think we should bring him into the first team next season, at the expense of our long-time stalwart Petr Cech? Questions, questions, questions.

The rumours of Costa for Courtois are also rumbling quietly in the background and, after the game, the 25 year old striker had this to say about his Belgian team-mate.

'Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.'

'It was a very difficult game against a big team but we have been able to withstand the pressure and at the key moment we sought the result.'

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to celebrate too much after the victory, knowing the calibre of players and coach Milan possess at the moment.

With no less than Clarence Seedorf set to visit, Simeone added: 'I am absolutely calm. We know that the Champions League is difficult.

'It is a good step but there's a lot left to play. The result has been good but it cannot be trusted upon with a team like Milan. You have to work to keep going.'

Imagine having both of them? That would be a sight for sore eyes but I can't see Atletico giving us both of them.

What do you guys think?

We would be MAD to sell him. I just hope Mourinho / Roman arent so short sighted as to want to make a short term gain by selling him , rather than the greater long term gain

No disrespect to Cech , but this guy is the business. If we are to compete with City , we MUST keep Courtois

Well Jose will never bench cech for him. And the ways things stand, he will want to sell him. There is this thing about Jose I don't like, may be he is trying to sell all our youth and quality players and sign his own players just so people can say he bought the players by himself. Or what is he trying to prove? Abramovic and Emenalo must find a way to protect these players for the next 3 years so that if Jose leaves anytime we won't have to start all over.

In fact I think a great deal would be to use Cech in a swap deal for Costa ..and for us to keep Courtois

@Killer...Benching Cech would be to disrespect him. He needs to continue playing (for another club) He still has a substantial monetary value and in the days of FFP, we dont want to have him sat on the bench ) when we could use his value to obtain a player like Costa ( a striker we need) and to provide Atletico with a replacement for Courtois..- everyone's happy

Atletico are officially a big contender in football nowadays. Kudos to simeone for the work he has done. if they happen to loose courtois and costa come summer it remains to know how they will cope or rather adapt

Mou has already witnessed the capabilities of courtois firsthand in his time in spain and while he is seeing what petr cech is still capable of presently i am of the believe he will be in the best position to make a proper judgement

This is why they would probably be keen to at least consider the deal where they get a (good) replacement for Courtois.

Tom you say "I can't see Atletico giving us both of them"? Well hang on, Courtois is our player so that's one sorted. Costa, well they won't give him to anyone, but sell him? Yes very likely as their financial problems are well documented, and I've no doubt that they'll push for some sort of deal that lets them keep Courtois. However I don't believe the club would sanction that, other strikers are available if push comes to shove. Killerpass, if your argument is correct, then Jose will also be flogging off Hazard & Oscar & would have long since sold Frank & Cech as none of them were signed by him. Do you seriously believe that Jose will do what is will make him look good rather than what is best for Chelsea? And if so, then by extension you must also believe that Roman & the board will stand back & let him? Or do you think that they are all idiots & wouldn't spot it? Sorry fellow Blue, but that is utter nonsense.
