Mourinho`s Gaff

In the high-profile world of sport there are, inevitably, going to be situations whereby somebody well and truly puts there foot in it.

Years ago, and referring to a political situation, I can recall Ronald Reagan, not knowing his microphone was still live, telling those in ear-shot we should nuke the Russians.

Well it appears such a gaff befell Jose Mourinho recently.

The Special One, in an interview with the French TV station Canal Plus, remarked,

"The problem at Chelsea is that we are missing a striker. I have one in Samuel Eto`o but he is 32, possibly 35 who knows."

On later being told that his comments had been picked up, Jose hastily tried to back-track insisting his comments, to the President of Hublot watches, were meant to be light-hearted and off camera.

Here at Vital Chelsea we reckon the likes of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto`o might be casting a few glances in Jose`s direction as the squad heads out to Istanbul for a very important Champions League fixture.

Let them cast all the glances they want, Mourinho was only stating the obvious; at Chelsea we lack scorers! Simples. If there's any culpability then it's surely on the strikers for their show of abysmal ineptitude in front of goal - especially the £50million man! Mourinho knows and understands African footballers regarding the Eto'o age bit. Maybe Canal Plus shouldn't have gone public?

Its never a good idea castigating your players in public, but i find the eto'o age bit amusing, i actually think he should be in the 38-40yr old range if not over.

whatever they like, they can publicize, it does not reduce the fact that we are a toothless team without a quality striker and soon becoming a one man team over relying on hazard

May be mourinho did this delieberately to create something for the media to get busy and write about instead of getting on the back of our present strikers by comparing their stats to that of drogba.though what he said is true..@desmond i'm seriously praying hazzard dont get injured nor loose form, mourinho even went as far as saying he's planing to build the team around him for the next decade.

Jose doesn't need to keep reminding everyone we don't have a quality striker, we all know that and there is actually nothing he can do about it in Feb. Just keep his mouth shut and work with what we have right now it was his choice to waste our time chasing rooney in the summer so he should deal with the situation if you can't change it deal with it.

Maybe he did it to fire his striker up for the Galatasaray game.. You never know...

Well these strikers needs a motivation to come from somewhere. They surely would have egos and jose's comments should rub on their ego's, get them angered and maybe then it will make them start putting the ball at the back of the white net. But the 32-35 thing is a pure gaff and should be accepted.

take it easy Shlok , nothing is going over board now.... we knew what we were getting in Mourinho and he said as much in his first interview with us. We are seating on top of the table, inspite of his interviews and doing well inspite of the goal shy strikers we have at our disposal. please let him talk and if you don't like it, i suggest joining the Man United band where they have a taciturn manager.

Mou should realize in this electronic age nothing..absolutely nothing is off the record. The comment regarding the profligacy of our strikers is nothing new and isnt worth even a blink..that is stating the obvious. The quip regarding Eto O's possible age discrepancy is the big deal and will certainly not go down well with Eto O, Ba or for that matter any of our African Born players because it suggests rather distressingly that Jose buys into this stereotype that indicates that all African Players stated ages should be taken with a pinch of salt. That is simply not true and further the age discrepancy issue is not an exclusively African player phenomenon..not too long ago we had the whole flap regarding the actual age of Radamel Falcao for example. Hopefully this has no significant repercussions regarding team dynamics but i do agree with those who say Jose has to bear and acknowledge some of the blame in this striker-less mess we find ourselves. We have had two transfer windows since he joined us to at least improve this mess and we have not so i guess the best thing is to just shut up about it already and make damn sure come summer this is sorted out once and for all..and that means ensuring that all 3-4 strikers we have by the end of the transfer window this summer all bring something substantial in the way of actual goal scoring ability to the table rather than just earning steep wages for doing essentially nothing.

He also suggested that he'd like to sign Falcao.

Falcao is a player who also allegedly falsified his age. It was reported that Falcao is actually 29 yrs old instead of the official 27 yrs he claims.

The report was last year. His official date of birth is 9 Feb. 1986, which means he's officially 28, probably 30 (unofficially).

I think Torres should play. He does best when he's *****ed off. And he does best in the European competitions.

Regarding Torres..I expect that Roman has killed any potential deal to get rid of Torres because he doesn't want to look the idiot by selling him for such a loss…Everyone understands that Torres is a bust but Roman wants to save face…Now that his contract is at least 1/2 over, maybe he will swallow his pride and sell him. Of course the English Press will have a field day for weeks talking about how much money Roman lost. Everyone knows this was Roman's deal, otherwise he would have been gone long ago. Regarding Sturridge, he had an attitude problem while at Chelsea..he was the most selfish player I had ever seen. I remember a wide open Torres in front of the goal whereas all Sturridge had to do was pass he ball for a tap in. Of course he shot the ball wide from a bad angle. Sturridge found a new life being sold to Liverpool. He was always going to be behind Torres and he was *****ed off about it…The really stupid thing about Torres was the fact that he was purchased for a team that was not set up for him to succeed. truly a stupid purchase.

I'm sick of the striker nonsense. If it were me, I'd just buy 2 more midfielders, rather than continuing to make Chelsea FC a graveyard for old strikers who used to be great. We don't need strikers, and we wouldn't know what to do with one anymore, anyway. We've bought a fleet footed player from every league on the planet, so let's just officially unveil our international league of midfield gentlemen, and get on with it, already.

If you have followed mourinho very closely you will know he has reasons for everything that he does, you might not see it in the short term but you would in the long term.. The media feel they are wise but i wouldn't be surprised to hear that his players long ago knew about this plot. This could be our ticket to our dream striker come summer because any striker we are going for automatically knows he will be 1st choice..and for those we already have they have all the time from now to the summer to prove him wrong, either way its a win win situation for us.
