'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Thoughts of the Special One!

Last night, courtesy of the 2-0 win over Galatasaray, with Chelsea winning the tie 3-1 on aggregate, we reached the Quarter-Finals stage of the competition for the 8th time in eleven years.

For Jose, the victory meant that he`s reached the quarter-final stage of the competition for the fifth season on the trot and Jose has an enviable record of never having lost a Champions League quarter-final yet.

But, before we start counting our chickens and contemplating a semi-final place, Jose had a few things to say about the clubs status, its ambition, the game last night and what might lie ahead.

Take it away Jose,

"For Chelsea to come from the Europa League to the quarter final of the Champions League is important for the players and the club. We are a club for the Champions League and now we are in the best eight of the best teams in the world."

"We are there and the players deserve to be."

"This was a difficult tie where people think we have to do it - but the reality Is not like that."

"Galatasaray is a big club with a lot of experienced players."

"Now all the big candidates to win the competition are there."

"It would be very good for our evolution as a team, and very important for us to play one of the best. We wait for the draw. It doesn`t matter who."

"It was a very good performance, very solid, very compact, no fears. A very good approach to the game because 1-1 from the first leg is a difficult result."

"The team was solid, very confident and very much in control for the 90 minutes which is difficult for the whole game."

The old saying about there being no easy teams left in the competition springs to mind at the moment, but given a choice who would the Vital Chelsea fraternity prefer to play in the last eight?

well look at this way. this season we are a better team than the year we actually won it! and that year we wstill beat Barca and Bayern(pens I know but in there own backyard) and I would even go to say that Barca and Bayern were better sides then tha they are now! Arsenal showed if you hve a go at Bayern there back 4 are not great at all! and city really should have got the better of Barca at home! but city are not the beast of Europe lke CFC are and Pellegrini isn't the wily clever evil and destructive force that is jose morinho at the European table! last 8 is when it gets interesting now we face the best teams in world football. there is some real bg teams and really good ones. I don't care who we get as we have to beat them all to in it. im just loving the jorney under jose again!
Dave-David
I agree with jose completely, 1-1 in turkey was a very dicey result. Only a goal from gala yesterday would have thrown us off balance that is why we have to give kudos to our defenders for staying solid and compact. special shoutout to Azpi most especially and Cahill. #UptheChels

Galatasaray were very poor and whatever Drogba had about him is well gone,he was useless.
THEBREEZE
I want Barcelona. We will convincingly eliminate them this time around. Bayern are weaker and overated, they won't retain the trophy. Athletico and PSG are solid but they are not as good as people think, we will Stay compact at the back and hit them hard on the counterattack. Real Madrid are the only team I fear they are really good, Carlo has finally fix their leaky defense and has made their attack very deadly and prolific like he did with Malouda, DD and Anelka in his first season with us only that this time he has the World best player, a hungry Benzema that can't stop scoring, Bale is on fire and DiMaria is doing a fine job as the #10. They are hungry to win the UCL and Carlo is an experienced CL specialist, they are the team to beat.
SameX
Dortmund are no where near the team they used to be, the loss of Gotze to Bayern, Reus, Gundogan, Subotic, Mikitayan, Bender to injuries have really weakened them, they looked toothless in their last game where they lost at home tobacco side with ten men. The UCL is a different beast entirely but we can eliminate them.
SameX
Slapping Bayern around would ne nice..

THEBREEZE, mate really? "Galatasaray were very poor and whatever Drogba had about him is well gone,he was useless.", or Chelsea were just better on the night? Blimey, isn't this Galatasaray team the same that beat Juventus, the perennial Italian Champions, only recently knocking them down to the Europa League? The very Juventus that had us well and truly beat last season?? The way some of yous see and understand the game beats the imagination and common sense! When Aston Villa, ok, feck Chris Foy, Newcastle and Stoke and Basel had us well beat sometime ago, were we "poor" or they were just "better" than us? When we blitzed City home&away, were the Citizens a poor team or we were just better in that match up?
HGH Magic
zg2000... hi mate. I'm afraid UEFA won't let us slap Bayern around, even if the chance presented itself at a canter ;)
HGH Magic
slapping Barca again would be nicer still... especially with a Messi shutout...
Dwonder
I hope we draw either real or bayern...I dont fear the loss, but atleast will show the haters that we are the BEST english team who can match these big clubs...i am sure we will go down the wire against any of these before losing.
Blu_run
@HGH@They were the worse team I've seen at the bridge for a long time. I know we're top of the league but do you think that we're playing good football?
THEBREEZE
Gala dont press the ball like EPL team. This helped us greatly, Lampard had found the correct tempo to dictate the midfield play. If the game was little too fast, he would have been lost. Anyway, good win and look forward to friday's draw...My wish is bayern or real...if not these 2, then dortmund. I want to avoid Atletico.
Blu_run
I would rather take Olympiakos or United, United to get back at them for 2011.
Seabourch
Good on yer to fear Real Madrid SameX, and your reasons for so doing. I on the contrary don't fear them, but just never wanna play them over 180 minutes until the final maybe, for personal amongst other reasons like the level of motivation 'badass' guys like Ronaldo, Ramos and Pepe etc would have per their past with Jose. Be that as it may, on their day I think Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern can all beat Ancelotti's men comfortably over 180 minutes. So, there's really no point hyping and making Real Madrid look better than they actually are, or have been in Europe over the last decade.
HGH Magic
BREEZE, I'm sure to some of the Man City fans at the Etihad, City looked a "worse" team than they are when we beat them at their backyard and kept a fecking clean sheet in the process! Because YOU saw Gala as the worse team @the Bridge doesn't make it so. It's just your own point of view mate. So...
HGH Magic
and, yes, we play good football although mostly in flashes...a lot of second-half wins and master pieces like the wins over City, Liverpool, United, the Totts and the Southamptons...that's why we are top of the league, even without strikers with 'legs' goddammit!.
HGH Magic
kudos to the lads and the technical crew for an excellent job yesternite.....@ merlin wasn't chelsea's loss to barca during Jose's 2nd season{2005/2006} at quarter-final level?
Ige Bosun
Last 16 not Q/final ige.
HGH Magic
@Dave, perhaps we showed arsenal the way when we played them in the supercup. I also agree we are a better team but as usual in the champs league we will need as much luck as we can get to repeat 2012. And @Breeze, however you came about 'whatever drogba had about him is well gone' makes we feel whatever you know about watching football is as well gone. No? and as for a couple of you that posted above, i can understand your pride at wanting us to play a very big team so to prove we can rub shoulders with the big clubs better any other joker team in England but heck can we just get an Olympiakos team so we can move into the semi-final (a place which holds more prestige and money for our dear club) than letting our pride kill us so early on???
kolagold25
@Kola agree with you mate.. Take it easy lads! I would much rather take a Dortmund or Olympiacos side in the quarters, get to the semis, make more money, more prestige, better for the evolution of the team, etc etc. Then in the semis we can face any big team out there..
Carloss86
Imagine if you were a Galatasaray supporter, player or management, they must have been well *****ed off at Drogba kissing Jose just before kick off. He was really focused on the job in hand.
THEBREEZE
Smh @THEBREEZE, mate what are you on? Can I have some of those? Lol.. You didn't want him to greet his mentor, huh? You're aware Didi is Chelsea through and through, and is a free agent in 2 months? Good luck to yer!
HGH Magic
Honestly what is your problem @thebreeze..is it a burning hatred for Jose? do you have some personal vandetta against Drogba?are you really a Chelsea FC fan? You have posted these same comments on multiple threads,..just give it a rest..we all got your views on these matters on the first set of posts. That said i do agree with you that the Gala team we faced yesterday was the worst form i have seen them in years and i understand why Mancini essentially apologized to their fans who BTW were incredible in the way they vociferously supported their club at the bridge even when they put out such a poor display. For the next round for us i pray we get Olympiakos..if not then Borrusia Dortmund and a date with Jurgen Klopp and his now much diminished bees. There will be time enough for titanic battle royals in the semis and the finals if we get there.
GabeU
I'm surprised he didn't kiss his ass as well. What a joke of a player before a huge match in his clubs history, disgrace.
THEBREEZE
^What a joke of a Chelsea fan you are talking about DD like this? PLASTIC.
HGH Magic
What the hell would we be thinking if we saw Samuel Eto'o run over to kiss Roberto Mancini having played for him at Inter. It's a serious sport and at the highest level there's no place for carrying on like that before the game. When the final whistle goes, that's the time for sentiment and friendship. It showed a total lack of respect for his current club.
THEBREEZE
What the hell TBREEZE huh? LOL the hell is that Eto'o has never worked with Mancini all his life!!! Stop embarrassing yourself lad. Beat it. Mancini was sacked @Inter in 2008 as Eto'o arrived in 2009! ROTFLOL
HGH Magic
@HGH,Read it properly you idiot.
THEBREEZE
Lol idiot. No need for the insult after all you're a well known braindead retard on here. Breeze off you're all BREEZE and no football substance lad. LOLO... "Samuel Eto'o having played for Mancini" indeed!
HGH Magic
You can call me plastic when you actually go to a Chelsea match. Ha ha.
THEBREEZE
Rubbish. Been there done that kid. You're just a young muppet who thought Eto'o played for Mancini lol
HGH Magic
What a shame having to talk footie or argue with a completely nave juvenile muppet! Smh
HGH Magic
I never said he played for Mancini.I said what would we be thinking if he had.You do take the bait very easily, lol.
THEBREEZE
No bait lol. Stop the funny whitewashing, accept the mistake lol.
HGH Magic
