A Possible Swap Deal?

A Possible Swap Deal?

Got up this morning and stumbled on an interesting piece of news which claims that Romelu Lukaku will be allowed to quit Chelsea and join Everton this summer - but only if Jose Mourinho lands Ross Barkley in return, according to the Sunday People.

That is the deal shaping up between the clubs as Mourinho looks to breathe new life into his squad at the end of the season. They claim Jose regards Barkley as a natural successor to Frank Lampard, who is set to quit the Stamford Bridge side for Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy.

That has raised the prospect of a move south for Barkley, with the Toffees' manager Roberto Martinez also keen to land Lukaku on a permanent basis. The Belgium international's loan move to Merseyside was only sanctioned on the final day of the transfer window. Eyebrows were raised at the time and Mourinho has since challenged the striker to 'tell the country why you left'.

I am not going to believe this story just yet but I think if Lukaku is leaving permanently, it will be nice if another special gem in Barkley comes in...swapping Lukaku and getting Barkley to replace Lampard and getting two world class strikers (say Costa and Balloteli) wouldn't be a bad idea but it would mean us losing one of the best CF prospects in Lukaku.

But if it does happen, it will be easy to say that Jose doesn't rate Lukaku highly. Personally I'm so indifferent about this news due to the fact that we need a DLP and probably 2 strikers. Swapping Lukaku for Barkley will give us a DLP and we will have to sign two strikers, keeping Lukaku will mean we have to sign a DLP and most likely a world-class striker.

Which do you think will be the better deal at the end of the day?

keep lukaku. you don't find 20 year old strikers with 2 great seasons as a proven premier league goal scorer. he's also a beat of a man. none of the strikers we are looking at are in his mold. selling mata, de bruyne and now (apparently) lukaku...who's next? we already have to suffer watching sturridge bang in goals for liverpool. i guess we will have to watch lukaku bang in goals for another premier league club. sad

More media B.S. Nothing more. CFC would be crazy to sell Lukaku.

People think Lukaku has an attitude but they want Balotelli. Hmm,double standards.

Exactly @BluePontiff.... Some here just can't appreciate/tolerate our young talents and are too obssessed with superstar names.... For Sturridge the mantra was "he is too selfish".. KDB, it was "he's too lazy", Lukaku "he talks too much, he can't dribble, he's not good enough"... etc...

lukaku as already said is a prem proven goal scorer in 2 different clubs, 1 a low level brom side, the other a new everton side finding their feet. its not like they have barca or bayerns mid field behind him. he gets service, he does well, he is strong fast and can bully ppl to make him a complete striker. i would like to see him get 20 games with hazard oscar and william behind him. he would score more than more people in the prem. this sale would be dumber than when we got rid of mata/sturige...

I don't think anybody is saying Lukaku isn't any good. But there seems to some special quality that a striker needs to play at Chelsea that they don't need anywhere else. I have no idea what that is - I wish I did. But Lukaku doesn't seem to have it. He played so well with West Brom from the get go, but he looked absolutely awful in the preseason. The miss against Bayern was amateur hour. Yes, he's 20. But he doesn't have even the slightest bit of chemistry with the players we have. It could come, to some degree, but it was frightfully lacking, and that doesn't bode well. I'd give him his fair shot, but if a good price comes in, and it allows Jose to get 2 strikers that he REALLY wants, then by God, who are we to get opinionated? (nevermind that last part)

also from the looks of it joses likes to play 2 up front be it a wing foward like ronaldo/hazard or an out an out like lukaku/ba. next season we go 4222. either that or a werid looking 4231 with someone playing a 2nd striker role as such.

how will he have a chemistry with our players as i know that he has been on loan for last two season...he hasnt had one proper season with chelsea and some people are giving lack of chemistry with our player as a excuse...what a strange excuse...cant believe what some people are talking here...

We can still by Barkley without having to give them lukaku back. I also think we have a good relationship with them too- why not loan them someone else who Martinez can develop- I say bamford. It's time he played in pl. Plus Barkley and lukaku have a good understanding with each other which we can use to our effect. We have to be careful with our two other Belgians (lukaku and courtois) if they go we will rue the day .

After watching him a few times including yesterday against Fulham,I say get rid of him.The player that caught my eye in that match yesterday was the Everton CB John Stones. He was superb bringing the ball out of the defence and reminded me of a young Alan Hansen, very elegant, confident and always wanting the ball. One to watch out for.

I doubt this will happen though I think Barkley has been on our radar a long time now.

OK, fair enough. Not one proper season, and yet I cite a lack of chemistry. But yet, the boy himself believes that he needs to be number one in the squad - and on what basis? But this you'll tolerate...

Nevermind the fact that you slag me for criticising Lukaku's performances for us, but you praise him for his performances with other teams, that he *seems* to slot right into. (no "proper" season needed) It doesn't take him a full season to start scoring for Everton or West Brom, for which you sing his praises. So what do we say to this? Does this amount to big expectations? Or does it necessitate that we acknowledge those who constantly scream that we're lacking something BESIDES just raw talent? Again, STURRIDGE...

Here's a nice article that illustrates why we have a striker problem at Chelsea. (yes, it's about Sturridge) You will see that he was a good striker both before and after leaving, and that we probably missed out on a world class striker. http://www.statsbomb.com/2014/02/we-need-to-talk-about-daniel-sturridge/
