Premier League Offer Chelsea Assistance!

Previously, as we continue our march towards European silverware, Jose Mourinho has made a point of pointing out that those who run the Premier League do very little to assist English clubs in their quest for glory, fixture-wise.

Qualification for the Champions League, against opponents who will be revealed this Friday, has left Chelsea facing fixture chaos.

The demands of television have ensured that the fixtures preceding the two legs of the semi-final are both scheduled to be played on a Sunday.

On Sunday 20th April we`re at home to Sunderland and the following week we have that crucial Premier League fixture against Liverpool, at Anfield.

Well it would appear that somebody has been listening to the words of the 'Special One` as it is being reported this morning that the Premier League will come to Chelsea`s assistance and will move the game scheduled to be played on a Sunday, ahead of the semi-final tie we will be playing on the following Tuesday!

Hurray, common sense prevails!

I am a little confused..is it the Sunderland match or the Liverpool match which will now be moved? Anyway while i will take it i am not impressed by the FA's trojan gift..as Michael has mentioned above it is entirely self serving. The FA is probably starting to appreciate that the dwindling fortunes of the BPL teams in the Champions league while La Liga and the Bundesliga teams grow in their presence and the length of their stay in the competition may see the BPL eventually suffer the fate of the Serie-A by losing a spot as ligue continues to also grow. Now that we are the only BPL hope left they suddenly realize that it is in their best interests for us to go all the way and even win the whole thing so as to paint the BPL in good light and give them a powerful bargaining chip to ensure the status quo is maintained as far as BPL team quotas. This is all about the BPLs prestige and off course the money the teams will then get from the Champions league booty which translates to greater profiles, better players being attracted in and you guessed it even TV revenue money much of which the FA big wigs will pocket. What they are doing now is what any reasonable FA should be doing without even being asked and what is routinely done by the Serie-A, La Liga, the bundesliga and Ligue A already for their teams locked in European competition so the FA will get no thanks from me for doing what should be in their standard job description anyway.

The epl quota is not in threat, Serie a and the french league are still far behind. Good gesture by the Fa though.

well said Gabeu....one more season of poor performance in the champs league would have meant a reduction in the BPLs quota to 2 automatic qualifiers only..fixture decongestion for teams representing this country in the UCL should be a given...no thanks for me either

I think both being moved would be nice, more time to rest.

GabeU, Which ever Sunday game is nearest to our Tuesday semi-final is the one which will be moved back to the Saturday. We won't know if are going to play tuesday/wednesday or wednesday/tuesday until the draw is made. Our best chance against Liverpool is to play our first leg at home on the Tuesday than second leg away on the following Wednesday meaning Liverpool away on the Sunday. However no doubt it will be completely the opposite way round. Away on the Wednesday, Liverpool away on Saturday, then home Tuesday.

Well shared insight from gabeu. I'm indifferent, in all the years we've not been given we have continued to excel. These fa folks have been so stupid with all things concerning chelsea that I hardly want to believe they have no hidden motive
