PFA Team Shock!

PFA Team Shock!

Last night, at some swanky hotel in London where a drink would probably cost you and I a week wages, the Professional Footballers Association held their annual awards ceremony.

One aspect of the ceremony that always provides a discussion point is that of the selection of the PFA Premier League XI.

Last night, following on from that handsome result at Anfield, Chelsea supporters would have been delighted that the following three players were nominated in the aforementioned starting eleven:-

• Petr Cech
• Gary Cahill
• Eden Hazard

However, whilst we have no qualms about the inclusion of any of the reference trio, we`re totally aghast that, after a magnificent season, John Terry, wasn`t nominated!

I would have thought 3 out of our back line will make it given out defensive record. Which of other top 4 teams managed to get a clean sheet against themselves. Chelsea managed to get 4 clean sheets. Also think it is way too early to put Luke Shaw in there. This sort of hype starts to destroy young English players early. What's a holding midfielder whose team conceded 46 goals doing there? Hopefully Azpi makes it for Europe since Phillip Lahm has spent half his season playing in central midfield per Birdiola's tactics. What is Kompany doing in there? He has been particularly responsible for at least a couple of goals from my memory.

They'll vote for Suarez but not John Terry. Haters gonna hate! To misquote John Lennon talking about Ringo: "Is Gary Cahill the best defender in the country?" "He's not even the the best defender in Chelsea!"
28/04/2014 08:18:00
I would have preferred Terry to Kompany on that List. Also, Dave to Shaw...I understand Shaw inclusion (being a english & young prospect)...but, Kompany inclusion ahead of Terry has something to do with FA's hatred to Terry...Lets be happy that they didnt select Demichelis ahead of Terry...
28/04/2014 08:39:00
That was the first thing that came to mind when i saw the list. John Terry missing out to kompany is being biased. Atleast they chose Cahill instead. We can live with that. As for shaw, i have always liked the kid cos he is a great prospect and a confessed chelsea fan. But am afraid he may not be able to cope with the overwhelming media hype. I also think he had a great season and while Azpilicueta is better than him defensively, he was by far the best offensive left back... Better than Baines in my opinion.

@Cobhom, I love your misquote... . It really emphasizes the point about how much politics there is in sport
28/04/2014 09:42:00
If you are the best in your sport /position in tat sport... it shold be recognised even if your name is Hitler - SPORT is SPORT...POLITICS is POLITICS..and they in fairness to sport and the sportsmen/women , the 2 shouldnt mix
28/04/2014 09:45:00
Hitler is taking it too far.......Personality/Image is a big aspect in all sport awards....

I must say the hatred that has come from yesterday's win is unbelievable. I just read an article saying that jose killed football yesterday by playing defensive and also cheated because of the time wasting. The media doesn't even hide their bias or disdain for chelsea. When every team comes to the bridge and does the same thing week in and week out. When west ham did the same thing the media said big Sam out did jose. The media was just praying that we were gonna get crushed by Liverpool yesterday. Turns out we made the media darlings look less then ordinary and they can't take it

You guys have said it all..the FA made damn sure that since JT refused to return to the horse and pony show called the three lions after their personal vandetta against him in the Anton ferdinand affair that they continue to extract their pound of flesh by ensuring that even though he has been the best CB in the BPL this season by a country mile that they kept him of this list. They would rather forgive and forget the vampirous activities of senor Suarez than ever let slide the slight that JT handed them by ditching the three lions (Hint guys has everything to do with who the two players play for..much as they doubtless still hate Suarez through and through at least he plays for their darling Liverpool..JT on the other know how that story ends).

Frankly i could care less about these stupid awards..they are just a cheap popularity contest when it is all said and done just like the Ballon D, Or. I am glad however that incredibly merit saw Suarez actually win the player of the year accolade and Hazard actually on merit won the young player of the year award. I was half expecting that maybe Ramsey and Sterling would be given the awards seeing as they are both at least that was a pleasant surprise considering how Anglocentric the nominees for the awards were..seriously how does luke shaw end up on this list and not Pablo Zabaleta, how does Stevie G show up there and not fernandinho? Anyway let them have their was a pleasant surprise enough for me that they actually included 3 players from big bad Chelsea..the enemies of football on their hallowed first eleven (note the sarcasm).
28/04/2014 14:40:00
Bet John doesn't give a damn. He is the Best BPL CB period, and one of the top 3 CBs in Europe.
28/04/2014 16:49:00
I share gabeu's thought here, i was very surprised to learn the PFA young player award has been given to Hazard when media darlings sterling and ramsey also featured. But seems the FA decided to use their head to full effect this time. Even Kompany knows JT is suppose to fill his place and for the team not including azpi, is a blatant joke. If SAS were chosing because of their goal scoring expoilts, shouldn't it be wise that the defence comprised to the most stingiest defence?? The FA knows if JT's name were to be added then there will be clamour for him to come out of retirement again hence they did what they know how to do best #Bias!
28/04/2014 16:53:00
KAKUfrank, Totally agree Hitler taking it too far. I'll go to cannibalism and no further!!
28/04/2014 17:10:00
The FA had nothing to do with picking the team. The players were all picked by every professional footballer in the Premier League and seemingly all the votes were taken in January.Ramsey and Terry should definitely have been in the team.
28/04/2014 17:35:00
Baffling to say the least!! But i don't think it matters to JT much. #upthechels #CaptainLeaderLegend
28/04/2014 18:35:00
The biggest surprise for me was that Ryan "away day" Giggs wasn't named manager of the season following his now 100% record in the job
28/04/2014 19:31:00
JT shld b on d list but we all knw d reason y its not there.
