The Courtois Situation

The Courtois Situation

Studying the performance of our young Belgian keeper, Thibaut Courtois, doing his utmost to deny us a place in the Champions League Final has opened up the usual can of worms.

On Wednesday night, as Chelsea unsuccessfully tried to ease past Atletico Madrid to reach the final in Lisbon, against Real Madrid, Courtois gave the kind of performance that showed why he is so highly rated.

The youngster belied his tender years by commanding his area with authority, coming to catch several crosses cleanly amidst the usual plethora of players. His handling was sound throughout the game, his shot stopping excellent, his kicking up to standard and the ability to make a world-class save emphasized when he kept out that header from John Terry.

In fact Courtois was only beaten when the shot from Fernando Torres took a deflection to leave him wrong-footed.

Clearly Jose Mourinho has a big decision to make.

With Cech established as our first choice, does Mourinho make the move to ease Courtois in ahead of Cech, does he let the young Belgian stay another year in Serie A, or, heaven forbid, does he use the Belgian as collateral to persuade Atletico Madrid to part with Diego Costa?

It`s probably a question that`s been asked before but, after Wednesday, one that I feel we need to revisit now that so many more Chelsea supporters have seen him in action.

my feelings on this hasn't changed from last summer when I said we needed to bring him back and sell cech to a big European club for a very good fee! cech is a top class GK but he is now at 30 so even though GK's can go on I still think he needs replacing by the worlds no.1 GK at the moment. cech came into cfc at the same age as courtios is now so I don't see the problem. cech replaced cudicini who was awesome at the time and everyone at cfc loved him and wasn't wanting him replaced, but this is football and results matter and after seeing yet again for a whole season courtios again showing he is the best out there we really need to bring him back.i doubt cech will sit on a bench so sell him to barca or Madrid of a good £20 million as he is still easily worth that. courtios costs? oh wait we bought him 3 years ago now!

we dumped cudiccini for cech, why can't we replace cech with courtois...i sometimes wonder. Courtois' reflexes anr ball distribution are far better than cech's. Infact, if we are to loan him again next season, then it shouldn't be atletico de madrid. They'll screw us. It's obvious he loves atleti more than chelsea. Afterall, his atleti has trashed us twice in three meetings. he loves them more. We are his employer and we must not let him teach us what to do...Next season, he MUST not stay at madrid, even if it means being cech's back up. Let's be smart. He has just two years left on his contract and is relunctant to extend it.

Chelsea need to start playing hard ball with TC, and certainly not loan him out another year to AM, he will be lost forever. Have to be careful that we do not burn our boats if Cech is released, TC might come back under duress and look to move back to la Liga as quickly as possible. He should never have been allowed to stay a 3rd season, he is now more AM than Chelsea, that is already obvious.

This question , to me , is like trying to debate if you want 100% pay rise. What is there to debate? Its so blatantly obvious that we need TC here YESTERDAY , that I find that all thought of justifying it is moot. The best goalkeeper in the world without a doubt. and is ours for the pittance that Roman paid for him , and his contribution played a large part in our exit. That exit probably cost us more than it cost Roman to buy him. All talk of Cech - regardless of his legendary status , however true that is - and it certainly is true , should be sidelined in favour of our future. We are extremely grateful to Cech for our past achievements , but all players' time on the pitch comes to an end and we cant be sentimental. As Ive said in the past , in my opinion we shoudl have sold Cech last summer or before to get what tere is left in Cechs valuation .
02/05/2014 09:26:00
TC should not go on loan. He should stay here and fight for No1 spot. PC may not be at this same level next season after the shoulder injury...he is not the same PC who was before that head injury...

Latest Courtois rumour/news ..if true it seems he may be wanting move to Barca for £41m..should we accept?
02/05/2014 11:16:00
My opinion ...No we shouldnt accept
02/05/2014 11:18:00
Id rather see him benched for a full season than sell to Barca - or for that matter , anyone
02/05/2014 11:29:00
he was allowed to play. Would you expect him to do his best or throw the game? You all know the answer to this. Personally i would get an extension out of TC if possible and sell Cech
02/05/2014 16:11:00
Give him guarantees of being our starting goalkeeper for next season, sell Cech, extend his contract.. Easy decisions imo.
02/05/2014 16:29:00
I think the injury to Cech will prove to be fortunate in the end as it gives Chelsea an excuse to bring Courtois back as number 1. I think initially Cech will play in the League Cup, FA Cup & Champions League games then leave at the end of next season.
02/05/2014 16:43:00
it's simple, with Courtois Chelsea would be top of the league, with a margin, and in the Champions League Final, that's how good he is, just look at his stats, no way atletico would be at the top of the spanish league without him (Barcelona and Real are almost unbeatable), t's TOO LATE !, Chelsea should have trusted him, and keep him in London from day one. because of the financial fair play rules Chelsea changed it's business plan, it is not in the business of trying to win anymore, instead it is just trying to make as much money as possible selling players, while almost ruining a few careers here and there. (De Bruyne will show at the world cup how wrong Mourinho was, how blind he was not to realized de Bruyne should have been given Lampard's spot)
02/05/2014 17:02:00
No more loan for that boy. And if at worst we are loaning him out again, it should never be to AM. We he given I'm to them for over two years and what have we got back, two costly defeats and as lap in the face over Falcao . They have proven to be grsceless and ingrsteful and we should treat them as such. Let them keep Diego Coasts, cos personally, I don't think the guy is worth all the hype. Over 180 minutes of play, he could not trouble our back line once. Would rather pit money on Cavani
02/05/2014 21:40:00
@wonder--- did cavani trouble ur back line?
04/05/2014 09:45:00
Courtois - said to be considering a transfer request to Barca. I think its bench time for Courtois
