Match Day Moments - Norwich (h)

And so, far too soon for my liking, we`re contemplating our last home fixture of the 2013/2014 season.

The season has been one with some notable highs and also one with some notable lows, but one thing you can`t say is that it hasn`t been uneventful.

Relegation threatened Norwich are our final home opposition this season and, following the dramatic defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek, Mourinho has pledged a win for the fantastic Chelsea support who have been behind him 100% this season.

It remains to be seen whether Lady Luck will smile down on us this weekend and place the destiny of the title in our own hands, but we can but hope.

So, in a season that has had numerous twists and turns why not join us, from around 14:00 hours n(UK time) when we`ll be on hand to offer a canvas for you to discuss the starting elevem, the formation and, most importantly, the action as it happens at Stamford Bridge.

Be there, if you care!

Lets end our last home with 3 points then, I doubt Liverpool will slip up but we can always hope.

FOREIGN_VIEWER. I'm one of those people who normally enjoys to spectate and view from a distance on this site. I write the occasional piece when I have the time. I'm a believer of freedom of speech and I often enjoy hearing peoples various opinions, even if they do clash or differ from my own. However, I must say, I really don't understand you. I'm curious, what exactly do you want? What do you want from Chelsea? What would make you happy? I ask this question because after years of being involved with this site, seeing countless managers come and go, I honestly cannot recall one positive thing that you've ever said. Everything you say is negative, EVERYTHING. No matter how good a moment, no matter how positive things are, you always enjoy finding ways to dampen the spirit and basically find any way you can to be negative. Why is this? Most of the people on here enjoy talking about their team, sharing opinions and getting excited and upbeat reading each other's views. With you though, it's almost like you enjoy arguing. Getting a rise out of people. It's like you come here merely to spew (at times) really ridiculous statements just to annoy people. It works, you do provoke some spectacular reactions, often comical, but is that the reason you do it? Bordom? Wanting to start trouble? Let me ask you something, do you even support Chelsea? Do you share the same love and passion for this team as we do? From what I read, it doesn't seem this way. It seems that you only enough focusing on our problems and stumbles. Even at this great time, OUR era. It's rather sad actually. I just don't understand why you chose you spend your time in this way when surely there's more positive things that can be said......

Oops. Posted this on the wrong thread. Sorry....

Our title challenge is over regardless of Liverpools results. Liverpool dropping points just means we'll finish 2nd instead of 3rd. For us to wn the league now would mean Palace/Newcastle to beat Liverpool and for City to lose to Villa/West Ham.
Humza_96
The only thing I'm hoping for now is that neither City nor Liverpool break our PL goals record of 103. They're both on 96 with 2 games left. Hopefully Palace park the bus and liverpool win only 1-0 and then hopefully newcastle do something and only lose 5-0. LOL. City will probably beat Villa like 5-0 so I'm hoping Sam and West Ham defend resolutely and only lose 1-0.
Humza_96
As we still have an outside chance of winning the title I hope we put out our strongest possible team. I remember Carlo threw in some youngsters in 2011 and we nearly dropped to 3rd. We need to keep winning and hope Palace beat Liverpool (possible) and Viila or West Ham beat City (highly unlikely, but then they lost to Wigan)
CobhamBlue
Come on Chels!! A routine home win would be much appreciated. l Last home game of the season. Let's finish it the right way. #upthechels #ktbffh #carefree

Hi everyone here, its my pleasure to post my comment for d very 1st time. I'm a die-hard chelsea fan since mid 90's, but most often enjoy reading ya comments. While i miss many old timers like Lukamolski, FrLamp etc i really enjoy well thought comments from Gabe U for example; while members such as @mq, f_v, et al really beef me up. However without d so called negativity i think d fraternity 'll b boring. Cheers everyone!

Lets Go Blues. Hoping for a big win today. KTBFFH

Azpi given a much needed break. Hazard on bench, due to wednesday's performance and not yet fully fit. Decent line up. Let's get the job done. #COYB #upthechels

Oscar out, not fit as well.
syed230183_chelseafc
Smh!! Expected reaction on Hazard above. Also cue for media to go into overdrive on Hazard departure rumors. Silly season here we come.
syed230183_chelseafc
Oscar got the Hazard treatment too. Check Mourinho's interview.
foreign_viewer
Ok kick off hasn't happen and FV already taking over matchday thread with his *****. Typical day on VC.
BlueMIA
Go and Face the Wall Time for Hazard! Fully Deserved!
StamfordDLion
Oscar not fit, said so himself, saving himself for the world cup.
syed230183_chelseafc
No guys lets listen to FV Chelsea sucks, anything to do with Chelsea sucks, Our coach sucks, club decisions suck, etc etc etc.
BlueMIA
FV, we're sorry if ever offended you.man, but you're getting on peoples nerves now......... Please!!!!! Leave Chelsea alone!!!! :(

Wtf is wrong with Ba.
BlueMIA
This should be a win for us; hopefully.....

Mixed start again!! Lucky not to concede a pen and Snodgrass failed to mke contact on the cross!

@fv u are really an attention junkie. ..do u hav to triple post ur msg to get a response...now dats sad

Wtf is wrong with the pitch? Too many players have lost their footing in crucial moments in our last 3 home games, 2 such instances have resulted in us conceding a goal! smh..

Costa has a problem
Hazard11
Schurrle and Azpi should be rewarded for their passion and heart. Those 2 just give it their all.
BlueMIA
Is this EPL I'm watching?... is this Chelsea vs Norwich? why are they both playing like this is an amateur league... Are they tired or what?
Latunvic
We need extremely good players if we're to win the league next season or anything tbh.
David Gillam.
Urgency in opening half of matches against these bottom sides is really hard to produce for this team it seems. It's been the same throughout the season.
syed230183_chelseafc
Pathetic!
Latunvic
All the Chelsea moves are predictable. No creativity.
foreign_viewer
Very poor half.
syed230183_chelseafc
I don't think this is just about having extremely good players.... the players we have on the pitch right now should be able to beat this Norwich team at least 3-0..... BTW, what's the problem with the pitch...are there banana peels on the pitch?
Latunvic
There is still a slim mathematical chance to win the PL. Nobody seems bothered though, like the season's over.
syed230183_chelseafc
This pitch watered too much before kickoff, the second half should be better.
David Gillam.

Luiz hits crossbar !!! Ahh !!
syed230183_chelseafc
Hoping for a better 2nd half.....
Latunvic
We might actually lose this game, I sense a pattern. Palace? Sunderland?
David Gillam.
Its time for us to end our infatuation with the 4-2-3-1. It has masked so many problems. We lack creativity and we have been trying to resolve it by buying any fancy player and playing them as CAMs. Yet none of them are anywhere near scoring abilities of old Frank who was not as easy to watch. Its like just taking Joe Cole, Robben and, putting them in the middle and hoping the team becomes more creative and easy on the eyes. We still do not have anyone to marshal the flair players we have.
OCBlues
We need 1 goal, score 1 at least!!!
syed230183_chelseafc
God bless Cahill..... top class defending!!! This is why he's my Player of the year....
Latunvic
Sweet that Cahill. So now that Jose doesn't have "6 defenders" defending and Hazard not expected to "do everything" but score a goal or assist one, may we at least see the freed and unshackled Hazard get his Ronaldo-Messi impressions spot on? Or perhaps this is shaping up as yet another epic fail? Ahem....
HGH Magic
willian has been kinda poor today dont u think /.??? For next season we d need an upgrade on someone like Salah !!
slash_blue
Willian hasn't been 'kinda' poor today … He has been Really poor.
StamfordDLion
Can't understand why our Attacking Players can't Perform Consistently. Hot and Cold Stuff!
StamfordDLion
All our attacking players should look at this game and reflect deeply. What a poor performance.
StamfordDLion
we were too cautious in the first half and jose is to blame for that. against these smaller teams, we must attack more from the beginning..
Strapping Blue
"Parking the bus". One of our best friends and enemies.
BlueMIA
All our attacking players should look at this game and reflect deeply. What a poor performance.
StamfordDLion
Excruciating this...............
syed230183_chelseafc
Teams below the table half have Killed Us this season.
StamfordDLion
Jose has to think hard and come up with a plan to tackle this strategy.
StamfordDLion
I agree with Strapping blue.. the only way we can beat these teams is scoring early...starting on the front foot and being aggresive..and most importantly taking the chances that are created !! I for one dont believe we can be world beaters with Oscar Hazard and Willian or Salah for that matter.. we definitely need one more creative player !!
slash_blue
oh well... that's what we get if we don't attack from the start of the game.
Strapping Blue
For all the creativity (3 CAMs) we are supposed to have, its not until Torres, Ba or Eto create for themselves that we score. Didnt even create one memorable chance. Teams are happy to ask questions of them and dare our offensive players to beat them, and we cant. Disappointing
OCBlues
0-0 it ends. Pathetic result. Same old story. The disease has caught up with us at the Bridge in the end. Clueless going forward. Serious work needs done over the summer. This has been a typical match for us this season, story of this frustrating season. Minimum point secured and 3rd place pretty much assured.
syed230183_chelseafc
Forget about attacking from the start of the game. What about the full 2nd half 45 minutes? We had enough time to attack. Some players are just not good enough and 4231 is definitely not working
StamfordDLion
Also, dont forget we carry no momentum going into the game and are neway struggling to create proper chances.. i wudnt look too much into this right now
slash_blue
Well, we sold our most creative player..... What was the point keeping Hazard on the bench for the 1st half.... We need to win but we left our most creative player on the bench.... I just can't understand these tactics...
Latunvic
The worst part about Willian being rubbish and playing rubbish he seems to be one of Jose''s favorites for some reason...
blue#8
Try to bring back 433 and get some players who can play/work in that formation.
StamfordDLion
Time for a new manager.
foreign_viewer
Hazard had full 45 minutes to contribute in the 2nd half. He came with fresh legs. What did he do? How many chances did he create? Forget about Mata. Its not as if he is playing really well for United.
StamfordDLion
no chance of winning pl...if we dont change our tactics playing against lower team...no tactics at all...same old same old...willian looks so poor i dont know why people keeps on appreaciating willian...i have been told before he hasnt been good enough worth that money we paid...he is rami in disguise but with some skills and flair and nothing else...he has a good work rate but need more in term of goals and assist....our defense is well sorted out...we need massive upgrade in cm and Am position...need goal scoring midfilders...and jose has to change his tactics....he looks clueless
shlok27
Creativity starts from deep midfield... what's the point playing Matic and Lampard/Luiz when we need to score.... Why not play only Matic or Luiz and add one more attacking player... We sold our No.10 and replaced him with wingers... We now play CM or wingers as No.10....
Latunvic
(Time for a new manager. foreign_viewer) You are such a troll foreign. Who do you want as our NEW Manager? Come on … tell us? Instead of suggesting how we can improve our team and our play, you are calling for Jose's head. Will skip reading your posts from now onwards. Pathetic.
StamfordDLion
Why do we play two DMs every game? And it seems his only tactic against these type of teams is to throw another striker in the mix in that last quarter of the game.
blue#8
Time for foreign troll tobe kicked out of this site. We would be champion next season.
Keyser Soze
Salah is not worth £11m. Willian is not worth £32m.
foreign_viewer
And why wont Jose just play Hazard as the #10? Seems he's a bit useless on the wings at times.
blue#8
What our midfield is screaming for is a DLP … Modric Type to partner Matic. Frank Lampard is unfortunately getting old and can't run and contribute like he used to. Forget about Luiz, Mikel and Ramires. Creatively from the deep will never come if they are still around as regular first 11 players.
StamfordDLion
Keyser Soze, How much are you willing to bet on that? Liverpool, Man City and Manure will improve their squads.
foreign_viewer
Is the match Hazard vs Norwich.... what do you expect Hazard to do.... dribble everybody and score a hat-trick? Mata not playing well for Manutd is not Mata's fault... The whole Manutd is not playing well and there's nothing Mata alone can do about that....
Latunvic
Allardyce speaking the truth on Sky. Mourinho has thrown the league away against bottom clubs.
foreign_viewer
Third place secure - unless Chelsea lose to Cardiff, and Arsenal win 18-0,
syed230183_chelseafc
get one dlp and one good am...oscar needs a competetion in that position and that also a good competetion....dont have faith in willian to play in that position...and rami has to be sold...because till he is there jose will play him no matter what...i dont understand has rami had done some black magic on jose...dont understand how he gets picks up in everymatch...
shlok27
hazard cant do everything on.its own...he needs help from.other player to play the one touch in the opposition box....even messi need help from xavi and inesta...and at chelsea i dont think apart from.little bit from.oscar no one plays that one touch footbal with him....last season we had mata to support him...this season he gets frustuated when he dont get that help...he can score more than he had scored this season...
shlok27
How difficult is it to not see that the answer does not lie simply in buying new strikers, that is only half the problem, we need a deep lying playmaker who can add a different dimension to the team. We don't have to spend millions, there's quality in buying cheap, Ivan rakitic could quite possibly be the answer too that.
Blue1989
If we want costa to succeed then buying a deep lying playmaker is a must, because when our midfield becomes pedestrian then our whole attack becomes padestrian.
Blue1989
Yes we need new players when we dont get result maybe we should buy all the norwick defenders or whole atletico and real players.what a pathetic cfc fans who keep blaming players and praising clueless special one.Benitez won a cup with less matic willian salah and plastic fans.what a shame.
mzee69
Simeone hasn't spent £30m+ on a player like Willian nor has he signed erratic speed merchants like Salah. He built that team up like Klopp with Dortmund. There's no way they would sack him.
foreign_viewer
Foreigntroll, Willian was not signed by Jose. Then Salah has just spent 4 months in PL & he is only 21. What do you expect? Most importanly it is Roman/Club's money that is available to be spent. It is not your money. So keep your pie hole shut and go to your cave.
Keyser Soze
Sell both Willian and Salah.
foreign_viewer
Ivanovic should never play at RB again.
foreign_viewer
Monitor the players' fatigue. Don't send everyone out on loan. Don't sell the current club POTY. Play the youth. If they can play well, they are good enough e.g. Traore, Piazon, Atsu, Lukaku, Courtois
foreign_viewer
i wont mind selling salah if we get an upgrade over him.. someone like Hulk maybe !!
slash_blue
Very disappointing end of season at the Bridge. I cannot understand Morinho's team selection when the place and the fans sought a lift after Wednesday. Yes, not losing in order to more or less guarantee 3rd was important, but how about putting ambition and winning 1st? Again Mourinho seemed surprised by Norwich being defensive. A point at the Bridge is regarded as a victory by most Premiership clubs. This is where he must succeed next season, excuses like this are wearing thin.
colourtheisblue
colourtheisblue, A point a The Bridge is normally a great result for the opponent. But Norwich needed 3 points to have any realistic chance of staying up. They basically were not interested in anything other than defending and their supporters celebrated their doom like they had won the Cup. Very strange.
CobhamBlue
Very frustrating. Apparently we have hit the woodwork 32 times this season. Football is measured in inches. Also, seems to have been some edict handed down that Chelsea are to get no more penalties. Ba as good as assaulted, no penalty, and nobody even talking about the FA charging the Norwich player. Schurrle scythed down right in front of the referee: nothing. Then Hazard lucky to escape a serious injury: nothing. Anyway, 3rd in the bag. Now Jose can start planning for next season.
CobhamBlue
C.Ronaldo is something else....That guy will score goals with his eyes closed and legs tied. Did anyone here see his goal against Valencia? Amazing!!!
Latunvic
Atletico Madrid lose. Real Madrid draw. Chelsea draw. Looks like the Champions League semi-finals have taken more out of everyone than supporters might think.
CobhamBlue
This game sums up our season superb against the best teams winning home and away against both city and Liverpool 4pts against utd spurs arsenal, but we have lost the league against the weaker teams and can't get past ranked defenders,so next season we need the ability to overcome this problem,Jose now knows what is needed what we need to do is don't delay and get our targets
herefordchelsea
This analysis is relatively simple. Opposing teams park the bus against CFC for 4 primary reasons…1) CFC lacks a CM quarterback that can pass well and dictate play…2) CFC lacks attacking fullbacks that can cross the ball. Ivanovic and Aspi are perfect examples both are not great crossers of the ball. Cole is a better attacker…3) with the lack of a quality passing CM and a lack of attacking fullbacks, CFC tends the play the ball down the middle of the field with a lack of width play…4) lack of a CF goal scorer....Thus, teams park the bus and just wait for long shots and poor crosses…This will continue until CFC adjusts player personal and playing style
lamarochs
Azpi is a lot better fullback than Ivanovic. He can pass and cross. Unfortunately, he's in the wrong position at LB.
foreign_viewer
Excuses for Mourinho. He failed. 3rd last season. 3rd this season. Liverpool are above. Arsenal only 3 points behind.
foreign_viewer
Our record against the best in the league was truly amazing. Our record against the dregs was also amazing...in a poor sense. Meaning, we have the talent to win the league but we didn't have the: (fill in the blank) A. Heart B. Cajones C. Manager We can beat ManCity, 'Pool and such but can't get by relegation level sides....at home or away...hmmmm Quite a quandary but I guarantee it's one of the three above with the addition of no decent striker and a certain Brazilian who can't pass the ball to the correct side.
rockhead
I sat in the West Stand and it was as clear as day.The ball kept getting played to Ivanovic on the right as the extra man and he kept crossing terrible balls time after time.I can't remember him finding a Chelsea player with even one cross. There was no width to our play as Schurrle and Salah kept coming inside, where Norwich were strongest and there was little space. Was Salah tried on the left side even once, where he can get to the endline and pull the ball back.It was all huff and puff and I though to myself after 30 minutes, how many players have we that can beat a man and do something special. The answer was two, Willian with pace and skill and Schurrle with speed.Hazard started on the right and was causing havoc and then he was changed to the left, strangely, and got outnumbered. We've thrown the league away but Jose say's we're in transition, luckily with the second strongest squad in England.I wonder is Man City the only team in the league, not in transition.
THEBREEZE
the front 4/5 have been hot and cold all season it is as if they think they are too good to play against the lesser teams. Often today I saw balls played up and down the flanks endlessly with only Ba in the middle just standing there. A complete lack of desire all round. This squad may be good but it is not a squad for the Premier league where you are expected to give 110% EVERY game! I'm not sure what the answer is!
unclezillion
Everything looks rehearsed. It is boring stuff. Why can't Chelsea play like Man City and win? City have spent less.
foreign_viewer
FV you really are a moron!!!! since 2008 Chelsea net spend = £328.7 million. Man City net spend = £509.6 million.
unclezillion
Let's count the money since Abramovich bought Chelsea, excluding the purchase price.
foreign_viewer
"Net" spend is disingenuous. How much were players signed for?
foreign_viewer
Frigging hell how much did Liverpool spend in the 70's and 80's? it can only be a side by side comparison or it is useless!!!
unclezillion
Is Willian better than Yaya Toure? Is Salah better than Atsu, Thorgan Hazard, Traore or Piazon? There was no need to sign Salah and Willian.
foreign_viewer
Chelsea spent a lot of money in 03 & 04 and as a result of that built the spine of the team which won 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups and got to 2 Champions League Finals and 4 more CL semi-finals. In the last 2 or 3 years that team has reached the end of the line and and replacements need to be found for the likes of Cech, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Essien, Ballack, Drogba. That is not an easy thing to do.(Especially when you hose £50m away on Torres) Chelsea are in the process of doing this and have so far managed to achieve the transition without finishing outside the top 3 - with the exception of 2012 when we put all our efforts into the successful Champions League campaign. Man City have basically had the spine of their team for 4 years and this really should be their moment and yet they are making very hard work of it and they have still not had a decent European campaign after 4 years. Liverpool's transition saw them drop from near Premier League champions in 2009 to 5 years in the wilderness. Man Utd's transition has seen them drop like a stone. Arsenal have been in transition for years. There is not a lot wrong with Chelsea at the moment we have pushed for the title right until the end and reached the Champions League semi-final. Next year we will have a new No.9 and Willian, Schurrle, Hazard & Oscar will have 1 year more experience and no World Cup to distract them. I used to come on here 3 years ago and see person after person demanding Carlo be sacked and rejoicing when it happened. I always said that was a crazy decision now people are looking at Real Madrid and saying look at what Carlo has done!! However, if Carlo was the 2nd best man for Chelsea Jose Mourinho is definitely the best man. We are going in the right direction.
CobhamBlue
"Jose Mourinho is definitely the best man. We are going in the right direction."
Style of play: There is no difference between him and Pulis.
foreign_viewer
Allardyce has West Ham playing the same way.
foreign_viewer
3rd highest scorers in the Premier League. 18 goals in the Champions League. Absolutely destroyed Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd & Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and Man City at the Etihad. Chelsea don't play anything like Crystal Palace only an idiotic journalist or blowhard would think that.
CobhamBlue
LOL.. I keep wondering if posters on here couldn't grow up to IGNORE the IGNORAMUS troll marauding as foreign_voyeur so maybe, just maybe they'd be less wound up by the ignoramus' random bovine scatology dumped on here as 'comments' intended just to wind them up? Maybe they'd be less disappointed by our 'meltdown' if they realized no club has ever won the Barclays Premier League without its top scorer being among the league's top scorers for any given campaign? Just wondering...
HGH Magic
Crystal Palace won using the very same tactics that Mourinho used against City. Aston Villa, same. Mourinho only understands defense.

Jose Mourinho's 2012 Real Madrid are the highest scoring team in the history of Spanish football.

Jose's 04 team is the highest scoring team in the premier league history
unclezillion
unclezillion, Not true. Carlo's 2010 Chelsea scored 103 goals. The only Premier League team to score more than 100 goals - so far. Although it looks like that record will go this week unfortunately.
CobhamBlue
Cobham thx for correcting me was the 95 points in 04/5 with only 72 goals. City and Liverpool both have 96 this season so far..
