Hazard`s Staying

Hazard`s Staying

With Paris St Germain openly flouting the Financial Fair Play rules and paying out way over the odds for David Luiz after they`d received a heft fine from UEFA, there was the fear that they`d lure Eden Hazard to the French capital next.

Rumours were doing the rounds that the La Ligue side were prepared to pay out extraordinary money to lure Hazard from West London.

Well it appears that any fears Hazard may leave have been put to rest.

It`s being reported in the tabloid press this morning that although Eden has two years left on his contract, the big-wigs at Chelsea are conducting talks that would see the 23 year-old Belgian receive a salary hike, up to around £175,000 a week to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Talking about his Chelsea career, Hazard is quoted as having remarked

"I am staying 100 per cent."

Now that is music to my ears on a Tuesday morning!

It was very obvious he was not going anywhere-he had 3 years remaining in his current contract. May be he just took advantage of the speculation to earn an improved contract as most players do nowadays.

If eden hazard really wants to achieve his dream of becoming world best, he sud forget abt any transfer by now because he has the best coach at his disposal right now

I would not be for selling Hazard especially as he still has 3 years left on his contract. However, good as he is, I cannot see what he has done to justify a pay rise. He is already one of our highest earners and so far he has not reached anywhere near the nights of Ronaldo & Messi - players he keeps comparing himself to. If he can score 20 + league goals and learn to score from a free kick then I might change my mind.
10/06/2014 08:42:00
He is gonna break the £200k ceiling without breaking the 20 league goal barrier.
10/06/2014 09:43:00
About time we have some positive news, lets hope we are going to announce some signings today to wrap it up.

Chelsea free kicks really need working on. Players like Gerrard, Suarez, Toure, Ronaldo, Bale regularly score from free kicks. There was a spell last season when Man City or Liverpool got a free kick from 25 yards out it was as good as a goal. Chelsea, not so much. They hardly ever score one. The players really do need to practice more. We could easily have had another 5 goals if somebody could take a decent free kick.

As far as i can remember and any one with different info can correct the entire season last year despite our participating in 4 different competitions; CL, Capitol one cup, BPL and FA cup our team scored only twice from free kicks; Lamps screamer against Hull and Oscars FA cup goal against stoke..imagine that 2 free kick goals for the entire team. Mata alone in half a season with ManU matched that number. Yaya Toure who did not use to take free kicks in the past exceeded that on his own for City let us not mention masters like Gerrard and Suarez. Someone wrote an article on this some time back and it is a real problem for us. Not only dont we have anyone in the squad presently who can take a half decent free kick decently but we also dont have anyone who can take a half decent corner kick consistently now that lamps and Mata have left and this is one of the reasons why despite the huge aerial threat we have with guys like Ivanovic, JT, Cahill and Luiz last season the goals from our defenders dwindled compared to prior years. This is the result of lack of commitment to practice pure and simple. Lamps became the legend he is at corners and PKs as well as free kicks by relentless practice. Yaya Toure was never known as a free kick specialist..he worked on it last summer break and this season he has added it to his repertoire. Messi only recently (in last 3 yrs or so) became adept at free kicks..he wasnt any good at them early in his career...the change obviously came from practice. Hazard really needs to work on this because while he was at Lille he scored several goals from direct free kicks so the ability is there. There are other persons in our team who really need to add this as well as accurate corner kick taking to their list of skills (i am looking at you Oscar, Willian Schurrle) and finally now that we have essentially lost all the PK takers from our Champions league winning season Jose had best get a new set of 5-7 trusted PK takers not named Hazard who should be practising and polishing their craft this post season the moment they get back from the world cup. For a team with our ambitions we should have 2-4 deadball specialists who deliver pin point corner kicks 8 out of 10 times and who will give us at least 6 direct free kick goals in a season. This is one major area that needs work for our squad before the new season begins.

I agree with cobhamblue as i also do not see a need for a pay rise. To get that he needs to start delivering the goods more consistently like our very own super frankie. If there's actually talks about increasing his pay then that will be a jittery move from our board hence will put hazard in the ascendancy like rooney does with manU
10/06/2014 15:03:00
Not only do we need players to step up for corners, FKs and the like but we also need players who can cross a ball from open play. We're almost one dimensional due to the lack of accuracy here. Even if we change tactic, there's no threat...lots to change for the new season but I have faith!
10/06/2014 15:24:00
Even with lacking all the mentioned above, it makes it all the more impressive how jose got us to compete. I think above all people need to understand the psychology of things. Taking freekicks and excelling at it wouldn't be a problem to the set of players we have now. But i have seen severally how players like lamps and luiz have pushed the younger ones away to have a go. The farther from the hierarchy they are the less important they might take it. Once they are saddled with the responsibility i believe we would see a huge turnaround. Even messi had to wait his time during the days of ronaldinho and deco.
10/06/2014 15:33:00
Overlapping fullbacks in Luis & Azpi solve the slicing crosses problem if Luis actually happens. FK's get Schurrle, Hazard & Cesc working their butts off. Penalties are a problem since only Hazard is decent.
10/06/2014 15:35:00
kolagold25, with the huge gaps we have had since Carlo's double I'm surprised of some our successes.
10/06/2014 15:49:00
Technically Lampard scored direct from a free kick against Everton although it hardly counts as it was more of a cross that missed everyone and then it bounced of the goalkeeper into the net. Still you can't beat an injury time winner!!

Beckham is only a great in popularity not on the football pitch.
10/06/2014 17:25:00
If not for Mourinho, this wouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

Hazard should be handed a new contract Asap..he is such a wonderful player and with the right pivot player who can actually pass the ball to him in quick motion he is going to be amazing.he just needs to learn set piece abilities and he is going to be a top top player for chelsea
10/06/2014 17:55:00
Beckham was terrific on and off the pitch bro. Have you forgotten his trademark freekicks?? Don't be a hater
10/06/2014 18:50:00
any contract talks with hazard should be put on hold till next summer when he will be have 2years run it out.
