The Midfield Conundrum.

The Midfield Conundrum.

Following the blockbuster signing of a certain Spanish midfielder from FC Barcelona, many may assume that Chelsea, arguably overstocked with a wealth of midfield talent, are safe in that department.

Following Fabregas's arrival, the rumour mill has shifted into over-drive around the possible exit of Ramires. Many see Fabregas as a replacement/upgrade to Ramires and it can be argued that way; Fabregas can pass, run with the ball, create a chance and dictate play from the centre of the pitch.

Obviously, Real Madrid have been pursuing our little Brazilian for over a year now and a deal looks like it could happen. In a Chelsea shirt, his faults are few but he has an annoying habit of losing the ball in dangerous positions while his passing ability isn't all that good for a world class midfielder.

On a personal note, I like Ramires. He's strong, athletic and intelligent on the ball- aside from losing possession, his decision making is often very good. He can score, assist and provides an engine to feed the more attack minded trio in front of him. But, in an overcrowded midfield jammed full of international talent, do we still need him? Madrid are apparently willing to stump up near to £25 million for Ramires and that's probably good business for a player who may spend a lot of next season warming the bench.

Talking to my elder brother, however, has opened the door to another possibility. This is the main reason why I wrote this quick article as I wanted to see what the VC fraternity thought of this. Paul Pogba, Manchester United reject turned French superstar, has been pertinently linked with a return to the PL and his performances for Juventus have certainly turned a few heads, not least that of Jose Mourinho. Pogba is a superb young player and, as Chris pointed out, is very similar to Chelsea hero and Arsenal vanquisher [remember THAT goal?] Michael Essien- except he is a better passer of the ball.

Would this be good business for Chelsea? Selling Ramires? Chasing Pogba's signature? How do you see our midfield shaping up? Do we need another high profile addition?

Let me know!

Up the Blues!

Pogba will cost more than 25m pounds....keep ramires he would be a good back up to fabregas, ramires is a decent squad player....matic, tiago, ramires and fabregas will be great for our pivot/CM..

"his decision making is often very good. He can score, assist and provides an engine to feed the more attack minded trio in front of him"... lol..made my day reading this...
14/06/2014 17:32:00
he should be the first person who we should have waste...just has an good engine and nothing else...if we need a squad player then give chance to our youngster....25 million is too much for him...we will be stupid if we dont sell him for 25 million...
14/06/2014 17:36:00
But of course, that's just the obvious fact, and not simply your own opinion, right shlok27?
14/06/2014 17:51:00
I will wait till I see the midfield players that will be leaving and the ones that will join us in addition to Cesc Fabregas before concluding on what system Jose is trying to implement and who his midfield starters will be.
14/06/2014 17:55:00
Pogba is overrated for me, still too young and inexperienced to have a €60m price tag and we may not even be interested in him.
14/06/2014 18:00:00
Ramires would be fantastic as a long distance runner but must be considered to be one of the worse passers of a football in the Premiership.
14/06/2014 18:25:00
Cesc is not a replacement for Ramires. Ive said it a dozen times…Ramires is a defensive winger and a squad player except against the very top clubs. he is too valuable to be a squad player at CFC. Willian can take Ramires spot as a defensive winger when necessary. It doesn't make sense to keep him if a strong legitimate offer is made….Sell…Sell…Sell...
14/06/2014 19:14:00
Selling ramires would be the best option for us. His defects are all known to us so their is no need stating them again. We should try and get real Madrid into a swap deal for either Di Maria or Modric. Even if we sell him for a sftraight cash of 25m we would have made some profit on him. We can promote a youth player as back up.
14/06/2014 19:40:00
No we got Mikel, we are the best team in the world in that regard.
14/06/2014 20:17:00
he picked on a wrong career. He should be out there competing with the likes of Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay.
14/06/2014 21:19:00
Ramires is going nowhere...i am 70% percent sure of that except a crazy offer comes in...a midfield 4 of ramires, fabregas, tiago and matic will be perfect for us..
14/06/2014 22:46:00
@valachi - sure ! That's why he's not favoured by top managers like Jose and Carlo !! :)

The CM is probably now concluded in our summer spending. I can only see Tiago coming in on a free as back up but other than that Matic,Fabregas,Ramires,Oscar,MvG will be our CM next season. People hoping we will go and bid £65 million for Pogba need to put FIFA down and wake up, not happening. As Jose has just said He was looking for a certain CM and in Fabregas he has found his missing piece in his CM and now its complete. Costa he also said is his choice and went directly to roman and said this is the man he wants to lead the chelsea line and he seems confident he has got him. Filipe Luis will be the LB. courtios,Zouma and Lukaku will all return and the squad is complete. Any other signings will be a bonus and i doubt very very much they will be huge money ones like the dream world £65million for Pogba.

Christ forgot all about Mikel! shows how much he has fallen off the radar this last season gone. Needs flogging for £12/£15million ASAP
15/06/2014 09:30:00
ginkel is an upgrade 4 ramires, its jst dat injury stopped him last season. Sell ramires, start matic and fab 4 d pivot, backed up by ginkel, mikel n baker
15/06/2014 10:11:00
Ramires will never ever go, ask mou how he is important in packing the bus and can play right winger or r.back.ppl forget so fast,if it wasnt 4 ramis goal vs ueafalona we would have dreamt for that HolyGRAIL.SO guys just shut up and let mou bring whats good to our club.infact i wish mou could turn to witsel instead of the pogbas and khediras who have egos and injury problem respectively.

This world cup will make some of CFC fans swallow their words about certain players. Their prejudices about certain players like Mikel & Ramires will change when these players will carry their teams to higher heights.
