Costa vs Balotelli

Of course, the Italian undoubtedly had the better World Cup opener as he pulled up his Super Mario impression perfectly last night as the Three Lions were put to the sword by the impressive Andre Pirlo-led Azzurri, but whilst we are left to ponder what might have gone so wrong for Roy Hodgson's team - after all Raheem Sterling and the rest all played well while succumbing to what is only our third World Cup opener defeat since the 1-2 and 0-1 reverses to Hungary and Portugal in 1962 and 1986 respectively, in 14 tournament appearances - or if Wayne Rooney is already past his peak as claimed by former Man United teammate Paul Scholes, can we also as Chelsea fans take a semblance of a prognosis as to what to expect of the impending Chelsea career of Diego Costa's and that of, say, Arsenal target Mario Balotelli?

So for you, Costa or Balotelli, or both? Who fits us better, even considering their injury history, age, experience, and the works?

Here's hoping for a healthy debate from the Vital Chelsea fraternity this fine Sunday morning.

I have always liked balloteli ahead of costa but i wouldnt mind the two of them if lukaku is leaving..they are both controversial and ill tempered the only difference between them is balloteli is epl proven. i'll still prefer a costa-lukaku 1st and 2nd choice striking option...also balloteli was kinda calm yesterday, i just hope his crazy days are behind him because he will be a top striker wherever he plays

I like balotelli but Costa is 100% what chelsea fc need right now. Costa has been built on counter attacking play. He has showed last season at athletico that he is probably the best in the world at spearheading a counter attacking team and brining the creative players into games. Balotelli is still class and if as a second choice behind Costa I would take him. But can't see it happening. Costa/Torres/lukaku I would assume to be our 3 next season.
Dave-David
Let's sign costa and forget baloteli for now.

To the question of the article,"who fits us better"...I think Costa will kinda suit us better because he has done well in a counter attacking side like athletico madrid, its not like balloteli won't suit us but I think costa moves the ball faster and that matters a lot when counter attacking...but I'd rate the two players the same or not too far from each other with balloteli having the potential to be the better player of the 2 in talent-wise
Hazard11
Costa AND Balotelli would be awesome methinks, as the latter can even play behind the former in a tactical switch. Torres can go fcck himself.
McQuinnChels
Jose has basically come out and said Costa is almost a done deal, plus Courtois will rejoin us, as per quotes published by Marca. Also Rami not for sale.
syed230183_chelseafc
with costa joining us, we cannot give more game time for balotelli but note my word where ever he goes he will do what suarez did last season he will be calm make his game speak more.. he is improving his personality he is in perfect age to get a top striker maturity
Sathish Lakshmanan
Balotelli has one good game in 10. For the other 9 matches he's either average or as ***** as Torres.
Humza_96
Humza, I don't believe that mate. Besides, has Balotelli not shown he's better than the Tormented1 ever was as a youngster? Balotelli > Torres in my opinion, of course; and come to think of it he looks 'tamed' nowadays, and only 25m or thereabouts can buy him according to the Italian media! Sign Super Mario up already!
McQuinnChels
For me, if I have my way it will be none of the two. Honestly, I haven't seen anything special about Costa, he hasn't impressed me at all. I'm not sure if he's the striker we need. I would have gone with Balotelli but the guy is one crazy dude...
Latunvic
Both players have the same temperament. Even with his craziness i have never hid my love of having balotelli at chelsea. The boy is just talented. He looks like he really wants to be mature and not let his team/country yesterday against England. I say the two player fits our style and i am ok whoever comes along
kolagold25
What will you have us do then? Zero striker formation?
McQuinnChels
What will you have us do then? Zero striker formation?
McQuinnChels
Costa yes. Ballotelli no.
BOTUM
Haha... no @McQuinn... we can go for other options like Mandzukic, Dzeko, Wilfried Bony, Jackson Martinez, Falcao, Immobile, Higuain, or someone we don't even know...
Latunvic
If i have the influence i'll say let's get the two and make lukaku number 3 either he likes it or not{still under contract}..our main rivals for the EPL title are having 3/4 reliable strikers and it's no crime if we do the same. It's not a must that we play one striker formation against every opponent and the board should make it a point of duty to get torres,ba and eto off the wage bill.
Ige Bosun
Impressive list Latun, but it's easy to imagine Dzeko is impossible... Mandzukic is neither an upgrade from Costa nor Balotelli. Approximately, Bony=Costa=Balotelli=Mandzukic(and arguably has a better touch and technique than Lukaku), imo, but I think JM doesn't rate the Ivorian. Martinez is overrated and overpriced and, safe for his numbers, reminds me of an older version of a certain Yaya Sanogo. Falcao on his part is just too old a mercenary for our purpose, I'd assume. While Higuain is quality and would really complement the Oscars and the Hazards, it is going to be a helluva tussle trying to buy him off of the FSW - a headache I'm not sure JM and the board is ready to have to deal with at the moment. Immobile is, well, immobile, and inexperienced at the highest level and would require a lot of 'settling in' time, and may even turn out an Erik Lamela Version 2.0. Someone we don't even know? Now don't get me started....
McQuinnChels
I just can't be comfortable going in a season with Ballotelli as our main striker..... However having him is so tempting, but if we're going to buy him, there has to be another top striker signing.... A Costa or Higuain plus Ballotelli..... And yes of course, because of De Laurentis and Rafa, buying Higuain looks impossible, or hugely expensive at its best
The Persian
For being so young yet able to lead a footballing great as the Azzurri for 3 major tournaments now in which he scores goals, unlike a certain Rooney, I'd readily pick Balotelli as one of my strikers all day! Imagine a strikeforce of Costa, Balotelli and Firmino/Lukaku! Almost yummy....
McQuinnChels
Delusion. Balotelli as second choice? He wouls bench Costa.

Make Lukaku number 3, ruin him and selling for 5m the following season.
