'If It's Football, It's Vital'

World Cup Match Day Moments - 30TH June 2014

Today is another day over in Brazil and if it`s as exciting and dramatic football-wise, as the one we experienced yesterday then we really are in for a treat.

Yesterday, in the last sixteen stage we were treated t a thrilling comeback from the Dutch who overcame a gallant Mexico side, 2-1, with the former blue Arjen Robben providing the spark the Dutch needed to instigate a late comeback.

In the other fixture Costa Rica, who topped England`s group, overcame Greece in a penalty shoot-out after the Greek side had equalized in stoppage time.

Today, on the menu, we have,

- France v Nigeria (17:00 UK time)
- Germany v Algeria (21:00 UK time)

The French side, managed by the former blue Didier Deschamps; have gone about their business in spectacular fashion and could be one of the sides to watch. However, Nigeria will certainly give the French a decent game and this is a tie that could be as close as all the others we`ve witnessed so far in the knockout stages.

The later fixture sees Germany (let`s hope Andre Schurrle gets a start) also engage with African opposition, taking on an Algerian side who surpassed all expectations to climb out of the group stages, but can they topple the efficient and effective Germans?

As usual please feel free to leave your views, pre-match, during the match and post match in our comments facility but please, as we always ask, keep them civil.

I want France and Algeria to go through..... may the best team actually win..... and the refs don't ***** up these games
The Persian
it would be a big miracle if any of the African teams advance today...that said we can all be on pogba's watch today
Lol @ McQuinnChels

The two african teams will go home today.

Moses was pretty ***** when he first got him but the year he wasted at Liverpool has made him even worse.
Nigeria giving France too much space at the to exploit
lol @humza...Rodgers made sure that he destroyed Moses by benching him brutally

nigeria can pull a shocker today even algeria but may the best team win
GeneralAyub_CFC 2m Kenneth Omeruo vs france 31 touches, 24/25 passes, 3/3 clearances, 2/2 aerial duels, 2 interceptions & 1/1 long ball.
evra n ref r such a douche clearly disgusting not giving a penalty even though the ref saw it ...
seems like nigeria can win if they get a hold of themselves ... awesome defending from the Nigerian gkeeper
In regards to African teams in the WC I think they can count themselves as unlucky but also naive. Africa's best team (IMO) for the 2006 and 2010 WC was Ivory Coast but they got stuck in the group of death on both occasions which is unlucky. But this year they had a chance to progress but blew it against Greece. This WC I thought Ghana had a really good team but they messed up by being the typical African stereotype of a team(no offence). Lots of energy and good going forward but are ruined by a ***** def and poor GK as well as their forward players being selfish and greedy. Nigeria for me are the best African team because they're the most balanced. Their def and GK are good but they come up short in the final third.
And I hope Jose is watching Omeruo he's been very impressive. Let's just hope that if he does go out on loan he goes to a decent PL club, not some ***** team in the Bundesliga like where Kalas ended up.
pogba 60mil mtcheeew waste of money not worth it
what a shot peter odew
Franc have 3 very good CMs. But they're all box to box midfielders. They lack a playmaker which is why their final ball is so *****. Someone like Ribery would have been a solution.
Wow Nigeria ! Brave performance ! Moses got an awesome goal line clearance !

Where's Ameobi?
welcome back nigeria
who was the motm? the dude not better than mvg, lewis baker or loftua cheek i guess?
Am so sad. We lost as a result of two costly errors. But Omeruo got to be in chelsea's team next season. He his ready.
Mikel had a good game. Played better than your Matuidi. Had more touches than all of France's midfielder. If Mourinho watched this match then Mikel will DEFINTELY be in chelsea next season.
^ Hopefully Jose didn't watch it then. Mikel, like torres has had enough chances under enough managers but apart from 1 decent half-season he's been an average player at best. I'd much rather we sell Mikel for 10-15M and get Tiago on a free.
If Mou watched this match.. he will be more determined to buy Pogba
really? mikel had a good game..christ! pure sentiments there. .did u see how nigeria's midfield became useless after onazi left? it couldnt control the game and couldnt contain the french. mikel was a passenger and majority of his touches were sideways and backwards. if you want mikel to be in chelsea next season then you have to pray jose didnt watch that match
France is an average team, they will get massacred in the quaterfinals by germany

Mikel was useless today as usual
@ Oscar mikel useless? Lol he doesnt even know an idiot like you exist. People like you are total failures in your life. (your hate is aking you mad gradually pal)I dont like Mikel much but he was solid today.
I insist if Mou watched this game, then, Mikel will be a main-stay in that team next season, i'll bet my job on it.
@ Oscarr am begining to see you as a rasist. Dats the truth, am sorry but thats what i think sir.
Mikel had a better performance than in the previous three games but not like there was anything great about his play today tho.
Hey chill @betiks....I watched this in a crowded Nigerian bar and not a single person rated Mikel. Onazi did all the hard work and Mikel just jug around. No confidence, no drive, cannot lift the team both as a no10 and an experienced player, caught strolling for most part of the game. Osazie was more like the no 10. I hope this is the last time that guy plays for Nigeria. I personnel dont pray he remains at Chelsea next season......
@ elemzy..i just think he was not bad today. What i dislike is how we chelsea fans insult our players at the slightest oppurtunity.
@Betiks,from my name I hope you know that am Nigerian,...but I watched the match and to hear you say Mikel was good in this match is ,am sorry to say, a bit too far.I guess Mikel's performance was more of France not turning up as everyone thought.Aside from Pogba,Matuidi and Cabaye were completely anonymous and gave Mikel losts of space. He was good, but nothing amazing.Onazi was the better player by far and when he left the pitch France sure began to play better. Many times Mikel held the ball too long, andhe didn't give as much 'visionary balls',through balls or over-the-top balls as he could have, thus stiffling Nigeria's attack attimes.Osaze,Onazi,Omeruo were Nigeria's star players along with Emnike and Musa to an extent, but not Mikel please, sentiments aside.
Schurrle has scored & Germany lead Algeria 1-0 at 1st half of ET
what a goal by schuerrle.... though I prefer Algeria to go through :(
The Persian
this Algeria no 10, Feghouli, was on our radar according to the reports last year....... I hope we could get him and offload the likes of Moses and Marin..... or maybe even Salah
The Persian
Ozil !
Germany win 2-1
Finally 2 good African goalies in today's matches .... if Ivory Coast had a goalie like one of these 2, they might have progressed to the pre-quarters
Finally a Chelsea player has scored ,well done Andre .
Michael Reid
An interesting read about Pogba and Mikel in the recent France vs Nigerian match up
Lol...@mcQ, whatever bro.
