Remember Ranieri

Remember Ranieri

Although Jose Mourinho gets all the plaudits for bringing to Stamford Bridge back-to-back Premier League title wins during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, the seeds for success were set by a certain Claudio Ranieri.

The likeable Italian brought several of the key players of that era to Stamford Bridge and was, as we entered a new era, perhaps unlucky to lose his managerial role.

Claudio, during his spell with us, ensured we got Champions League football on that memorable last day of the season, against Liverpool, which also ensured that Roman Abramovich pursed his purchase of the club.

The following season Claudio engineered a Champions League run that saw us knock Arsenal out, at the quarter-final stages, in a season where the North London side went unbeaten in the Premier League. Plus there`s also the small matter of leading us to our highest ever Premier League finish to recall.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Claudio Ranieri is fondly remembered by the Chelsea support.

The last we heard of Claudio he`d just been sacked by AS Monaco but it appears there could be a new opportunity opening up for the 62 year-old Italian with it being remarked that Raneiri is a front runner for the vacant Greek national job.

I for one hope that he gets it, how about you?
