Already One of the Best!

Already One of the Best!

With Belgium having exited the World Cup, at the hands of Argentina, we expect the Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois to confirm he will be part of the Chelsea squad next season.

After three years at Atletico Madrid, during which he has become recognized as a keeper of huge potential and already on the way to being one of the best in the world, his arrival at Chelsea will give Jose Mourinho a headache, but a welcome one, as to which of Cech or Courtois will grab the keepers jersey.

Yesterday, against Argentina, Courtois showed just how good he is with an excellent save from Lionel Messi when the Argentine superstar was through. It maintained a record of Courtois not being beaten in recent times by the player many consider to be the best in the world.

The fact that Courtois appears to have the world at his feet is confirmed by his international team-mate, Jan Vertonghen, who has remarked,

"At his age, he`s already one of the best goalkeepers in the world."

"He has 15 more years to improve, too, and I hope he can still improve. He works hard every training session and wants to work. That`s the right spirit."

"To be honest I don`t know how he can improve his game, but he will find a way."

Which presents us with the familiar question - Just who will Jose turn to as his #1 next season?

The problem is that if we sell Cech to a rival, Courtois then starts to flap at crosses in the premier league, which is very different to what he has been used to in Spain and then what ?

In his first 3 encounters with Messi, i thought he conceeded 9 goals including a hattrick... Any corrections?

I want him to be with the senior squad this coming season and battle it out with cech for the no.1 position I think bit won take long before he displace cech if he is as good as I think he is, but I also think we should keep cech and extend his contract for another year or two, so we can have a good backup in case courtois gets injured and we can have leverage to sell for profit if we want by 2016

Cech - Courtois - Schwarzer. That's my take for the goalkeeping position next season with cech and courtois in no particular order. The best should be the first.

I don't think Schwarzer has signed up to be a No.3, even a his age. So some sort of decision may have to be made. We'll see.

Have no idea why people are scared to say it, but Courtois is the best keeper in the world. Only Neuer comes close.

No need to sell Cech. Who will be our third keeper when we sell Cech. I don't see Mourihno selling Cech to any other team. What if Courtois Doesn't perform? We need all of them. They both have to fight their place as it has always been. We sell Cech and we are doomed. Cech will never be sold, so relax your lungs and enjoy your diet. Next person Please!

There isn't a perfect outcome no matter how you look at it. Its more of a 'lesser evil' scenario. I really want Cech to get the premier league clean sheets record. He needs just a season as first choice to break it. It took him a decade to get this close so he deserves to get it. But it doesn't look too good for him judging from reports in the media. The media has painted a picture that makes it look impossible to keep both. I really hope Mourinho can use his persuasive skills on Courtois, so he accepts the competition. Cech deserves that record. I might be speaking based on sentiments here but even with Cech's decline, he is still good enough as first choice at any top club in Europe.

Courtois has to be given a chance at the number 1 jersey next season...hopefully Cech will agree to be the number 2 next season if only for 1 year before he moves on....Schwarzer as no 3...IMO this is the ideal scenario for cfc nxt year - whether Cech agrees to this or not remains to be seen

I fear that TC may dissapoint if we keep him as the only keeper....he like Lukaku should not be afraid of competition and cannot hold Chelsea to ransom. For me Cech comes first and TC second until he blends in. He still has a lot to learn from Cech....the speed and physicallity especially during corner kicks in EPL dwarfs that of laliga. He should be made to start all carlin, FA and 40% BPL.

Courtois is an excellent keeper and i think overall he is actually better than Cech already but people need to be appropriately critical and not just drink the kool aid. Courtois made one great save of Messi in that match true but did any one take close notice of how he came out for crosses and corners..twice in that match he came out and was flapping..totally missed the ball but Argentina luckily did not punish him. Once with Higuan one on one with him he went down way too early..Higuan had him beat but just sent the ball too high as it clipped the bar and went over. Finally on the goal higuan scored while a masterful strike look at Courtois...he was on his knees and didnt move at all..no dive..no attempt to even reach the ball...Those were the sort of saves that Ochoa and Howard and Navas were making in this world cup. The point is..as good as Courtois is right now let us not deceive ourselves he is not on Neuer's level and he certainly has areas of his game that need finishing touches. Having Cech available for the first year of his time with us to keep him honest effort and growth wise is critical and it would not surprise me at all if he goes through some early learning pains in the BPL like De Gea did ..The BPL is a very different animal from La Liga.

Neuer is by far the best goalkeeper in the world right now. He is the extra defender both for Bayern and Germany. Curtois although great keeper is nowhere near as good with his feet as Neuer and it is a huge question if he will ever be, so KAKUfrank, I believe you are completely wrong in saying that Curtois is the best and neuer comes close.

We cant afford to keep both Cech & TC. With only 2 years on contract, it is the right time to cash in on Cech. Monaco or PSG is my preferred destination. Cash them about 15-20m. It should be Courtosis - Mark - Blackman as the 3 choices for GK.

Yes, TC will make mistakes and allow goals to be scored. But, even PC let them last year. TC will gain experience and will definitely help us in long term. So, lets not delay inducting TC in first team and lets sell PC before his value plunges down. If I am correct, there are atleast 2-3 rich clubs who are in need of a WC Keeper.

This coming season will determine how good TC is compared to other world class GKs

Something me and KAKU can agree on in regards to this subject. The only thing I don't like is people mentioning the supposed "prime" life span of TC. There will always be the next keeper to provide more years. What if TC is, let's say a random amount of years, 7 years in and we have another TC in our hands? What thenm in that sense we are switching keepers every time in a span of fewer than 7 years just because they can provide "another 15 years of service" as opposed to our current keeper. If he is better, should be the main determining factor.
