Are true legends above tribal loyalties?

I've been thinking of writing an article along these lines to help pass the close season and only the ongoing World Cup has made me put it off till now.

By tribal loyalties I mean of course our love for our club, but there are some players who surely rise above club or country. And yesterday we lost one - Alfredo di Stefano, hero of Real Madrid but someone who, when I first fell in love with the game, was spoken of in hushed tones and always with reverence.

I'll let you younger lads who don't know of him Google his career stats, I just salute him, for the pleasure he gave to me and millions of fans world wide.

And I'd ask, who do you think is a true legend, who is worth respect from the world wide football family, regardless of his club?

Lamps, hands down. Outside Chelsea, Scholes.

Roman Abramovic simple, him coming to Chelsea was all that changed our level today. Tell me how could Lamps, Drogs, Hazards etc of this world payed handsomely & played alongside world class players? I don't care about what other legends of rival clubs do or achieved, RIP Alfredo!

@Jerry, Roman has not only changed Chelsea, but I attribute the new competitive EPL we have now is down to him & his investments.

RIP Alfredo Di Stefano. There are lots who deserve respect regardles of their club affiliations. I'd say if told to pick just one then Paolo Maldini.

Regardless of owners, stars will be born, they will show off their amazing skills and would always end up playing with his each other. Why? because good players love to play with good players. Not good enough reason to mention Abramovich i feel @jerry

Yeah i can understand you @Kola but check the question on the article one more time, i guess it reads "who do you think is a true legend, who is worth respect from wide football family, regardless of club? I still maintain ROMAN ABRAMOVIC, squre & simple. His transformation of CFC made EPL more competitive & for the first time three English teams qualified to quater & semi finalsbof the CL. Bro Kola to be honest upon the sticks from all angles, media witch hunt, hatred, insult & courses directed at him or CFC, i never heard anything from this man, or talking to press etc. At the end proved them wrong & are now looking stupid as he is yet to walk away anytime soon. So bros behold a legend for me, i dont care if its only i alone. KTBFFH!
