Controversial Belgium striker, Romelu Lukaku, 21, desperately wants a permanent move away from Chelsea before his Stamford Bridge career even got underway, but will turn down a purported £20m move to Tottenham because he wants Champions League football, so the papers are saying.
One of such papers, The Express, are running with inferences and quotes attributed to the youngster, who following his *£17million move from Anderlecht in 2011 had spent the last two seasons on loan at West Brom and Everton, that suggest the spotlight-loving kid whose contract runs out in 2016 feels he can't be totally free to get on with his career with yet another loan move which is something Chelsea were reportedly considering.(*initial upfront payment of £12m plus performance related add-ons)
"What I don't want is to be loaned out," he said after crashing out of the World Cup with Belgium.
"I am 21 and I have been loaned for the last two seasons. Thibaut Courtois was loaned for three seasons and will be without doubt the first-choice Chelsea goalkeeper.
"And Kevin De Bruyne has been transferred permanently
to Wolfsburg. They are free in their heads - it is not my case. That [a permanent move] would free me totally."
Although the player who previously claimed to be a Chelsea fan and always dreamed of playing in our royal blue shirt hasn't expressly stated he wouldn't play second fiddle to any of the older and more experienced strikers on our books, it is apparent from his latest media soundbites and previous ones that his mind is already set on 'greener pastures' and nothing would assuage his feelings.
Don't you think so?
So, is this the last straw that broke or will break the proverbial camel's back?
Is it good riddance or perhaps you are of the opinion this is one sorry debacle with Daniel Sturridge written all over it?
Invariably, and despite what his critics say, it is obvious the lad isn't all brawn and no brains by rejecting that tiny club on the backstreet of N17 well in advance, don't you think?
