Can We Make It Five on the Bounce?

Can We Make It Five on the Bounce?

Starting the season on a Monday night has its advantages!

There were gasps of disappointment when those who select the fixtures for live television coverage decided our first Premier League game of the new season, Burnley (a), would now be played out on a Monday evening.

The fact that the new date and time for the fixture meant using public transport, to get home, would be a no-no, saw many supporters register their anger.

However, it appears that there is a bonus side with regards to kicking our season off, after everybody else and on a Monday evening.

You see it turns out that the last four Premier League winners did just such a thing!

• Back in 2010-2011-Manchester United took on Newcastle United on the Monday evening and won the title.

• Back in 2011-2012 - Manchester City started their season with a Monday night fixture against Swansea City and went on to win the title.

• Back in 2012-2013 - Manchester United kicked off their campaign with a Monday night fixture against Everton and went on to win the Premier League.

• Back in 2013-2014 - Manchester City kicked off their season with a Monday night fixture against Newcastle and went on to win the Premier league.

So is starting our season on a Monday evening such a bad thing?

@Merlin, it's because they had better squads than other. There's nothing special about starting your season with a monday fixture. A simple coincidence.
