'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Know what you are getting...

Moving on from Diego Costa and Fabregas, I present to you my little knowledge of Filipe Luis.

STRENGTHS

1. Defense - He tackles, he intercepts and he could actually put in some decent crosses. He arguably was the beat defensive left back in Europe the past season. He will be to us on the left flank what Azpilicueta is on the right and his defensive ability will allow Hazard to attack fully.

2. Drive and Fight - The whole Atletico Madrid team was built on team work and a fighting spirit that reminds us of the Chelsea of Jose Mourinho's first spell. This ability will help in big matches where matches are won with the will to win.

3. Strong - standing at 6 ft, he cannot be bullied on the ground and in the air. This raw strength will come in handy against the West Ham and Newcastle United of this world.

WEAKNESS

1. Attack - Though able to attack the flank and wHip in crosses but is not in the the class of the A. Cole's and Marcelo's of this world who can bomb down the flank all day. His crosses are also a little better than what we have with Ivanovic on the right, only a little.

2. Stamina - Being a player that gives his ALL all game long, he tires out towards the end of matches. This may not bode well in matches where seeing out slender leads is needful.

I'll wait and see how he does in the Premiership rather than depend on stats from La Liga. 2 very different environments & while I have o doubt he's decent, it's not a given that he will b a star. On the other hand Chelsea & Jose may just make him an even better player
analooish
He'll do better I trust.

Discussions for Torres have also involved defender Miranda, but Atletico Madrid insist Chelsea will have to pay his release clause. #CFC

Great article, I think Filipe will be an instant hit with us. I really like his attitude.
SameX
haaa... so dissapointed we are not getting Tiago ... what is the problem with his licence.. FFS he is a free agent.... and would cost nothing except in salary which would be pittance compare to what Mikel (who we are offloading is getting). FFS we would have a very decent upgrade to Mikel with his movement making a ripple in our ocean of wealth.... Emenalo .. sort this Shhhiiiii TTTT out now.

Rant over... Great news to see us trying to moving Torres on.. is wages off our books would be massive.. We should be gearing up for chelsea entering the market again... if Mikel, Moses, Marin, Torres leaves we can easily accomodate two more world class signings..... Cough Di Maria.. Cough Isco..... Cough Cough.... Modric....

i strongly agree with the two weaknesses. 1. crossing- luis is well known for his crossing. he crosses a lot but they are low crosses and cut backs rather than floaters. please note - ashley cole was never a great crosser of the ball and his average cross attempts per game were less. cole specialized in great 1-2 play and cut-backs and he stuck to that. #2- his stamina is immense actually- this is not just my observation but that of scouting reports and scouting agencies like scout nation as well. his work rate and stamina are second to none. i am not sure how these two qualities - crossing and stamina are his weaknesses.

Off topic: Costa to wear number 19

we should just attack more with fab at pivot against weaker teams and use fab at no 10 for top teams with matic n oscar as pivot and add willian to the mix ... about time chelsea starts attacking more n finish the half chances wic our strikers lost last time ... only if hazard works more in defence duties we need not be worried ... though felipe can back him up there n play without risk of losing possesion...

Nice one re Pogba @Samex
Blue_Mel
Hello @Samex where 've you been lately mate? Miss ya soooo much as the threads were not so lively over the weekend as updates not kept coming. I have no doubt that Cesc is going to hit the ground running this season, my only concern is Oscar having dislodged Mata in that no.10 role could find it so difficult taking back that same spot. Very happy read couple of reliable news sources(Eurosport most especially) that Atleti in talks to take back Torres to Madrid; wow other things aside his wage relief only is enough to do us a world of good. Never ever that kind of deal again, smh!
Jerry Blues
@Samex That Paul Pogba quote refers to Arsenal & Barca not Chelsea. It must have been edited by someone.

I would prefer we don't hype filipe much nor over expect from him. He is filling the boots of a legend and football great, Ashley Cole, accepted but let us let him be just filipe rather than another Ashley cole. I'm glad he turned down the no. 3 jersey which goes to say he wants no comparison while trying to do away with unnecessary pressure. Let him just take it slow and steady and grow in confidence like azpi and i can sure him it doesn't take much for us to fall in love with a player.
kolagold25
Good to know of pogba's dream but i hope there's nothing 60mil in that dream though
kolagold25
@Jerry, to be honest i am not worried about oscar, i believe he will hold down his spot in the first team. The WC just showed this lad can become unplayable once he chooses to play. All that is needed now is for jose to drive him to play at that únplayable' standard. To add to it, i think jose didn't focus much on him last season, he was more focussed on his joker Hazard and now that he has enough jokers, he should get time to dedicate to several upcomings.
kolagold25
Love your belief @Kola but still feel for the lad as Jose is not a master in rotation like Benitez, i guess you know the big boss i.e if you are inform or prefered you 'll keep on playing until you drop off form then comes the option(s). Very impressed with his form in the WC, i can see his passion & drive, tried to die on the field in their 7:1 hummiliation, but couldn't help more as the whole team underperformed yet got their only consolation. Well with the strenght of the squad rotation seems inevitable or else the best thing to do is to move on some members on loan or permanent basis just to have small squad. Well just saying, definetely this season is gonna be sooo interesting. KTBFFH!
Jerry Blues
If he tires, either substitute him or send on Willian to provide cover.

Chelsea are rumored to have turned down a £14m bid by Atletico Madrid for Torres. They are said to want £20m. Are Chelsea crazy? Take the £14m and run as fast as you can!!!!!
CobhamBlue
ofcourse i know the big boss @jerry and i can confidently tell you he is one who can be obssessed with the amount of tackles and covering of distance oscar possesses. Apart from is attacking side, let's not forget oscar offers so much more in other departments which jose likes. I feel mou will definitely make space for him.
kolagold25
LOL @cobhamBlue. I refuse to believe that though considering what athleti did with us for filipe we might be trying to serve them the same else they can go and splash somewhere. And remember, good strikers are hard to come by so they might as well spend over 20mil
kolagold25
He is the most balanced LB in Europe. From this last season performance.
KAKUfrank
Cole was great at overlapping and providing an extra body up front when needed, but he wasn't an attacking wing back who was a cross and assist machine.
