The Black Cats looking at Patrick van Aanholt!

The Black Cats looking at Patrick van Aanholt!

The signing of Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid looks
to have been the death knell for the Chelsea career of loanee left back Patrick van Aanholt who's set for a move to Sunderland with the clubs reportedly looking to agree a fee for the 23-year-old Dutchman.
Sky Sports` Jim White tweeted minutes ago(Thursday evening):

"Hearing that #Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aanholt close
to joining #Sunderland tonight. Clubs trying to agree fee."
— Jim White (@JimWhite) July 24, 2014.

The loans have been coming thick and fast for the boys lately so this is hardly surprising, and on the back of a successful loan season at Vitesse Arnhem and with Gus Poyet in the frame this one looks particularly interesting.

Maybe, just maybe this might be the break through move for PVA!

I still rate him very high. Chelsea should insert a buy-back clause in the agreement with Sunderland.

@botum thats what i was thinking. he is good just not given the chance sadly. at a mid table club in the prem he will fit in and if he does so well, he might be back before he knows it

Sell him with a buyback clause or 50% future transfer fee...This guy can turn out to be a gareth bale type winger. Very good offensively, but lacks a little chelsea quality defensiveness...but shd be more than enough for sunderland type teams. We could have tried him as a defensive winger this year.

I don't think Chelsea will need to worry about a buy back or 50% clause. He is 23 not 19. He has had plenty of opportunities and he is signing for Sunderland not Liverpool or even Tottenham. Even if he does well at Sunderland I can't ever see them selling him for more than £15m or so.

Magic_quill, Sunderland wouldn't agree to it. If you sell a talented 18 year old maybe you insert a sell on clause but at 23 he has done nothing to suggest he will be a superstar player. If he becomes a star at Sunderland then they deserve the money. Chelsea don't need to be fleecing Sunderland for £7m. There is virtually no chance of him turning into Gareth Bale in the next 2 years and being sold for £85m.
