Shaw, Money and Luis!

Although Chelsea were mentioned in dispatches with regards to signing the Southampton teenager, Luke Shaw, the England international eventually ended up at Old Trafford.

Instead Chelsea secured the services of the tried and trusted Felipe Luis.

Talking about the chase for Luke Shaw, Jose Mourinho has come up with some interesting facts. It would appear that Chelsea were very much in the race for Shaw until they were staggered by hs apparent wage demands, with Jose Mourinho remarking to the media,

"If we pay to a 19 year-old what we were being asked for, for Luke Shaw, we are dead."

"We kill our stability with financial fair play. We kill the stability in our dressing room."

"Because if you pay that t a 19 year-old, the next day you`d have players knocking on your door saying, 'How is it possible? I`ve played 200 times here and won this and that - how comes a 19 year-old gets more money than me?"

"It would immediately kill our balance and we don`t allow that."

We`d also like to add that although Shaw is an England international, he has yet to prove that he is top-notch; we believe that his potential has got him where he is with the backing of the media who, as we`re all aware, have an axe to grind with Ashley Cole.

But what about Felipe Luis, our signing from Atletico Madrid who we got a glimpse of, in Austria; in midweek?

Well Jose had this to add,

"Felipe has played for Brazil, won titles in Spain, won European competitions and played Champions League semis."

Now who do you think got the best deal?

Felipe Luis is Arguably the Best LB in the World at Present. He is in his Prime. He will serve us good for a several season at least I feel. Luke on the other hand is no where one of the best Left Backs in World Football NOW. He might become one one day BUT he certainly isn't one right now. He might not become one of the best left backs in the world in the future. We were in NEED of a FINISHED Product, a World Class LB in His Prime NOT a Potential World Class Left Back. We definitely got the Better Deal.

I'm sure by next season 2015/2016, Man utd fans wud start complaining about luke Shaw's performances. Cus in way no will he justify €200k per week at this level of his game. Luis on the other hand has less pressure on him but will surely deliver.

Too early to determine who got the better deal. At best Felipe Luiz will give us 3 tops years of performance and 2 very goods ones. At best, Luke Shaw could end up reaching Ashley Cole's consistent level for the next decade for United. If that happens, then it is clear who got the best deal.

It's laughable to think that it was Mourinho who called Wenger a voyeur. Though I suppose I shouldn't expect anything less from the walking-talking hypocrite. The fact is Mourinho didn't want Shaw because he can't win trophies and develop talent at the same time as such he sacrifices the latter and buys proven talent to make it as easy as possible. Before any Chelsea fans get their knickers in a twist and agree with him bear in mind you signed a 20 year-old Eden Hazard from Lille with only a Ligue 1 title to his name on 170-180k-a-week wages.

Stupid comment up there. Jose was not talking about someone else's business. He was talking about Chelsea's interest in Shaw. Simple as that.

Paul Clement (remember Him?), our former assistant now assisting Ancelotti at Madrid regarded Luis as the best Athletico player of last season and I believe Him. We have so many youngters in our squad, we needed an established left back. Quote me anywhere; Azpilicueta would have benched that Shaw Kid if he had come to chelsea.

Did you just compare Eden Hazard and Luke Shaw!.. How retarded can you get?.. Even before we signed him, Hazard was one of the hottest properties in Europe with people singling him out to be a potential Balon d'or winner!.. Giving Shaw more money than Hazard!? You must be out of your mind.. I won't even reply to the rest of your comment because it is so retarded it makes me question your sanity.

Ah there it is! Can't counter-argue so I'll insult instead child mentality. Shaw is considered the best young left back in the world and was linked heavily with you selves and ourselves and even Madrid at one point. He's got two seasons of premier league experience under his belt and already considered the best ,if not one of the best at the very least, left backs in the league. The fact is when you thought Chelsea were getting him you were creaming over him and only once it became clear he was joining us did you start U-turning on your previous comments. With those plaudits he got a 100k-a-week contract even in spite of winning nothing. Similarly Hazard with his greater plaudits got a mammoth 170k-a-week contract despite only having one a Ligue 1 title in a poor French league.

So TheFamousNo7, U saying Hazard should almost single_handledly drag Lille to win the League right ?? Hazard atleast won the League title & numerous individual awards... Now, tell me what Luke Shaw won again ????

No need to drag on this. Its of the believe luke is of a very good potential just not at the price he is coming for us to deal. You gat luke and we are just as much happier we got a la liga winning left back at a very good bargain perhaps.

Shaw is a teenage defender, a LB at that just for the Man U supporter's info. You think Sir Alex would have paid anywhere near those wages to a kid. What were Evra's wages? Or a veteran like Johny Evans? Now this kid walks in, talented as he is and i like him, is taking 110 k's per week !!?? PLus LVG is looking at Daley Blind still as another option??! LOL!! It is the changing times. Champion to 7th and no CL football as an attraction. We wanted him. But his wages as Jose said go above many of our established players. That was his point. Nothing more. We could have gone on and paid him his ask easily but that's not our way of doing things anymore. Hazard was wanted by lots of teams, we had to outbid them to get him. Plus he is a type of player that'll win you matches on his day. That's why people pay exorbitant amounts for attackers. Not the same for an LB, who is just 19.

It is true that it is too early to say who definitely got the best end of the deal however the greater risk and cost is all with Man Utd. If Shaw is anything like a success you can guarantee he will be having his agent negotiate a pay rise and contract extension in 3 years. Chelsea meanwhile nearly won the Premier League (and got to the UCL SF) with a right-back playing at left-back most of last season. Even if Chelsea spend another £20m in 3 years time on a new left back it will still work out cheaper than Shaw.

On topic, shaw was not worth 30 mil no chance and from what sky sports say on his main page it was 30 plus add ons which make him even more expensive to start. 110k a week for a 19 year old with ONE yes.. just ONE assist last season and ZERO goals in the bpl ( to show were i get my figures from. shocking really. say he was.... anywhere else in the world he would not have netted that money, pardew was right english talent is the most expensive (collectively) in the world

it also appears that southamptons right back has gone to arensal for 16 MILLION!!!! again proves the point that english talent is collectively the most expensive in the world.... whats even more odd is arensal have jenkenson and has just bought debuchy for 11mil-ish from newcastle. maybe these prices are a taste of what is to come? if so chelsea's business just seems better and better!!!

All these rumours are plots by people related to the player to tell CFC that Lukaku is a valuable player. It is a pity. i have a felling Lukaku is behind all this. He has been sold to more than 5 clubs within 24 hours. He went to Everton, went to Wolvesburg, went on loan at Atletico Madrid and was later sold to them for 35mil. he couldn't stay, he went to Toteham, then he was sold back to Everton and left there for Liverpool, he then went to Arsenal and is now in realmadrid. All this for one player. He has played in more than 5 clubs within 2 months. He is frustrated. He will be a coward to leave. If he thinks heis the complete striker as he claims, he should stay and dispose at least Torres. A complete Striker running away from a flop like Torres and a retired Legend Didier Drogba. He should prove he is complete instead of being a coward.

Likaku doesn't want to be a second choice. He wants to ba an automatic 1st choice at a huge club like CFC, he couldn't even do that at his country when he was overshadowed by an 19 year pld kid, keep your mouth shut and fight for your play time. If not, then it is time ti Malouda him.

Paul scholes on Luke shaw(before the deal was completed):"The proposed £34m transfer for the 18-year-old Luke Shaw to Manchester United is another example of something which has a bad long-term impact,' he said. 'Clubs are priced out of this market which is why they go abroad for cheap options - they’re not better players. 'For a left-back to be worth £34m shows how silly the game has gone. For that money I want a centre-forward who’s going to score 30 goals a season". 'Nuff said.

Here's a scenario - Lukaku gets sold. Good. But Torres also gets sold. That leaves Costa, Drogba and may be Bamford. Or we sign another major striker. There's still plenty of time until 31/08/2014.
27/07/2014 10:09:00

Maybe another scenario - Lukaku knows himself that he is not good enough for Chelsea, they will always have a no.1 striker above him, there will always be pressure and park the bus defences. Maybe that is why he doesn't want to fight at Chelsea, much easier to take a regular 1st team spot at Everton, expectations are way less. Well Lukaku, if someone pays £20-25m, the expectations go up exponentially.
