Confidence comes from Squad Depth

Many pundits are tipping our Chelsea to win Premier League this season.

Last season they made the same prediction, but we ended up in third place. Manchester City won it because of squad depth during the last ten matches they had immediate replacements for every position within the squad like Dzeko, Milner, Clichy/Kolarov, J.garcia etc. plus they were not obstructed by a Champions League semi-final.

We all know that we had no proper scorer last season to win the League or UCL during that crucial time of this season, even-though Manchester City has improved even more with quality signings like Sagna, Fernando and Caballero still they could suffer due to big FFP problems to be faced.

For our Chelsea, this time our management team did not waste any time in getting the players we needed. We got Drogba, Fabregas, D.Costa, Luis and Courtois back from loan, we have perfect squad. We need to sell flops like Mikel and Torres both were given enough time and did not perform ever.

We have a bunch of young talents fighting for first team place while Mikel and Torres get paid for nothing. We should sell them and we don`t have to replace Torres by one more signing because we have Lukaku.

But we need to replace Mikel with another defensive midfielder, that replacement should pass the ball forward not to the defenders or goalkeeper. No matter whether it is Manchester United or Manchester City or Liverpool or whoever is challenging us. If we have that strong squad, we can fight for every title and we can confidently say 'WE WILL BE THE CHAMPIONS THIS SEASON'

Mikel is not a flop..he has done the best he can and we have seen it,he has to move on,it will be good for him and the club..romeu will be a good back up for matic and also our squad depth is awesome,we are absolutely good to go but we can improve the quality(not quantity) by replacing some players

Also it will be bad if lukaku leaves and torres stays at cfc...but from recent reports it seems lukaku is most likely to leave and I think it wouldn't be too cool

one thing that baffles me is that Nigerians refuse to addmit that Mikel is nothin to chelsea.A player who earn 120,000,who can only pass side ways to the defenders or to the keeper. he doesn't create,he can't score and he cant assist

It is better for Lukaku to leave when he is still in high demand and still has high value. If he stays in chelsea with no regular playing time, he will rot on the bench and his value reduced. Mikel that is being called flop now was not called so when he was playing regularly. He participated in nearly, if not all the matches that won us the UCL, including the final, playing the full 120minutes.

@yinka Omikunle, Mikel was playin 120mins because we dont care hw we win,we just want to win by all means,bt now we are winning with style and he refuses to improve, chelsea has outgrown him.He wont enter the starting XI of any big club in the world

I told mikel is a flop because he plays lazy & safe passing football.. i never enjoyed his football and he never looked confident during many matches.

@gary777 then why did he failed against old Eto last season. in 2012 UCL SF any average striker would've scored that goal after coming as a substitute.

Mikel is definitely not a flop. You do not play over 300 games for the best Chelsea teams in history, over 8 years - by the age of 27 - if you are a flop.

Kinda harsh calling Mikel a flop, it's more of his style of play that isn't very pleasing on the eye. Other wise he's a great defensive mid for any side. I personally admire Mikel, has been loyal to Chelsea.

Sathish your opinion is not our opinion. & your opinion as far as football is concern doesn't count as to whether mikel is a flop for chelsea. Agreed he hasn't played to our expectations considering the form he was in during the 2005 U20 world cup. Calling him a flop just goes to show how shallow your knowledge about football is.

@chelsea in Abuja, Like i said Nigerians ll never agree mikel is surplus @ d age of 27,go n check is statistics in the last eight years, number of chance created, goal scores and assist made, that is what to rate of a midfielder not on sentiment because He's a him with yaya toure, vidal, bosquet,de rossi, maitudi, alonso you will understand how modern n big clubs holdin miedfielder play, and u will discover i understand football more than of you once said He thought matic is better than mikel, but that matic plays ahead of mikel because he's white.Matic makes over 4 assits in 6months last season and mikel never had up to 20 assist in 8years

This has nothing to do with being a nigerian. Saying that a player that has featured on over 300 games for us nd has won lots of trophies as a bital member of d team in 8yrs a flop is wrong. Mikel has nt really improved nd i think it will be good if chelsea can see him nd bring in a beta bt calling him a flop is totally wrong

What a surprise that a bunch of random names we don't usually see pop up to tell someone their assessment of Mikel is wrong. Others that are not random names also only take the one sentence involving Mikel and nothing else. Surprise surprise.
