Luke, A Shaw Bullet Dodged? ‏

Luke, A Shaw Bullet Dodged? ‏

Thanks to the otherwise frugal enigma called Jose Mourinho, Chelsea may have dodged a Shaw bullet...

When Chelsea fan and former Southampton starlet, Luke Shaw became the buzzword -okay, buzz name in this case - in any left back transfer tittle tattle amongst the English media and the original 'top four' clubs of English football seeking a left back, namely Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United (in alphabetical order, of course. What else?), it seemed as though he'd end up at our FFP-friendly club until The Saints decided they could fleece everyone as they ended up doing the slapping a funny price tag of £30m on the teenager!

Of course, by that time a certain 'Chosen One' David Moyes was still experimenting in Manchester; the 'hitherto' thrifty Arsene Wenger was hardly impressed and would have none of the hype; Brendan Rodgers still does not rate defenders as vital parts of the game anyway, and if he ever owned a club may never ever buy one close to the £4m he paid for one Ricky Lambert, trust me; and, thankfully, Jose Mourinho who spent the last three years of his career in Spanish football and played champions Atletico Madrid twice in the space of 13 days as his European dream was essentially truncated by the deft industry of two full backs - Juan Fran and Filipe Luis - had other ideas!

Enter Dutchman Louis Van Gaal, fresh from the lull of international football management and out of desperation and fear of the unknown and in keeping with the Red Devil's transfer policy, gaboooom, the expensive Southampton bait was summarily taken hook, line and sinker, and Luke Shaw became a Manchester United player much to the relief of most Chelsea fans; that the apparently overrated kid although a self-professed Chelsea fan himself had signed for the 'biggest club in the world' situated in the north of our great country.

But just yesterday, Van Gaal who is one of the greatest masterminds in the modern game (and one of Mourinho's mentors) has declared the player, who took a massive £27m out of his reported £200m war-chest as the most expensive teenager in the history of the sport, unfit for purpose!

Hear him:

"I am always a trainer who sees the individuals and what each player needs," Van Gaal told reporters when quizzed about why Shaw was training alone. "

"Luke needs to be fit and he's not very fit and can't perform how I want. He needs to be fit and to train individually."

"I can't judge why [no injury has been reported]. I see what I see. I have spoken with him
and we have made a programme with him. He has agreed."

Shaw thing, he had better agreed lest his chickens come home to roost too soon; with just a little over a fortnight before the season kicks off and with the Special One's recent comments on the kid, doesn't it Luke to you like we shrewdly dodged a red hot devilish bullet whilst with the same stroke gaining one of the best left backs in the business at a cool fraction?

Time, I guess, will tell though at this moment it's safe to say Mourinho knows exactly what he's doing; looks like we're having our Chelsea back after all.

I hate to gloat but honestly to those who were cooing about Luke as though he was the best thing since sliced bread just a few weeks ago before the transfer season officially opened..i honestly can say "I told you so!!" On another note as great a tactical genius as LVG is the recurrent theme with him is that he is a hard task master who will brook no nonsense and thus he reportedly eventually wears out his welcome wherever he has coached. This was the story as to why he left Ajax (having feuded bitterly with Yohann Cruyff), Barca, AZ Aikmar and most recently Bayern. For this reason the national team setting actually fits him best and we all saw the wonders he did with Holland this second time around..during his first stint there, again reportedly because of his abrasiveness the senior players he had then essentially mutineed. There is no doubt LVG will make ManU better..the way they are cruising through the Guiness international Champions cup preseason competition pretty much confirms my suspicions that he will have Manu back among the top 4 and back in the Champions league pronto. The big question though is how long will he last with ManU before he wears out his welcome with his players and with the ManU board? The man does not have a politically correct bone in his body..he could care less..he always calls it like he sees it and there is no figure in footie he will not talk toe to toe with..he took on Cryuff in Holland so i honestly see a time coming when he may lock horns with old SAF or Sir Bobby Charlton himself in his interactions with the ManU board. As regards Shaw..a guy who understood political correctness would never have said what he said about shaw openly and to the media. Unless that boy has a very tough skin and strong mentality that can be a major hit to his ego and confidence. For some players that sort of kick up the back side motivates them and gets them to be far better professionals..for others it starts them on path of self pity, anger and decline..time will tell which it is with Shaw. Jose is so wise..he spoke the absolute truth..this young man has such a burden of expectation now given his huge transfer fee and huge wages playing for the great ManU..he is supposed to be the heir apparent to Ash Cole's LB throne for england and yet coming back barely weeks after the world cup is not even in playing fitness shape..ouch!!!

The same could be said about mourinho. Seems they are very similar.

They are, and I am pretty sure neither speaks out without thinking about it before. If LVG said these things about Shaw it is most likely that he already has his psychic profile and knows what buttons to push in order for the player to dig in deeper and work harder. For Mourinho this is very true, I am just guessing that with Van Gaal it is as well.

LVG is overrated. In this century he's won like 1 half decent trophy. He's won the dutch league, bundesliga, german cup and german supercup. Dutch league and the 2 german cups are like Capital one cups. The bundesliga is a half decent trophy. To sum it up he's a has been.

Anyone who can win the bronze on a world cup with a Dutch squad so short in proven names in the big leagues excluding RVP,Robben and Snejder is well worth your respect.Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was Van Gaal's Bayern that eliminated Man United after being three goals down at the half time whistle and damn, they surely played well.I only remember Van Gaal's Bayern spell as I don't watch the Dutch League and I was like 8 years old when he was in charge of Barcelona, but what I guarantee you is that he is the Alpha version of Jose Mourinho - strict, pragmatic, with great tactical awareness and winning mentality. Don't listen to his BS about how broken his team is after Moyes's reign as the players just refused to play for the poor Scott for whatever reason.I am almost sure that United will be involved in the title race and I don't even question that they are going to claim a top 4 place. The question is will LVG make this MU team click with his tactics, does he have the right personnel to implement it to perfection.Because if he does this team will thrive,if he does not,he could be Moyes v2.0. I can't wait for the season to get started.
29/07/2014 23:28:00
He's only bringing Shaw down to earth, keeping his feet on the ground.Shaw is super fit and anyone who's seen him will know that LVG is trying to teach him a lesson.I wouldn't be surprised if he's the most fit person at Utd.
30/07/2014 01:10:00
Shaw looks BUFF. He has gained weight.
30/07/2014 02:45:00
its good he has spoken out about shaw or the idiotic english media will blame lvg for lukes failure if he gets dropped out of squad coz of fitness issues ... good for the kid if he listens to lvg ...
30/07/2014 06:32:00
Winning the league with Bayern is a half trophy. Klopp did something special when he won it.
30/07/2014 08:17:00
And yet winning 7 league titles in 4 different countries and 2 Champions Leagues is worthless to some.
30/07/2014 10:35:00
Just seen on Sky Sports that Shaw was top Left Back in every aspect of the game last season. Most crosses, tackles, dribbles etc.
30/07/2014 11:42:00
its just way he works. i had heard or read somewhere. that he likes to take his big money signings and likes to show them how it is to being on ground than in the air. dont come here and say shaw is this and that just bcoz we didnt sign him.
30/07/2014 14:03:00
What Chelsea fan would sign for the mancs none I know
