Drogba - Opposing Views?

Since the legend that is Didier Drogba decided that a return to Stamford Bridge was what he really, really wanted, there have been some spicy comments left on our site.

Whilst many of you have welcomed the return of the legend who scored 157 goals for us with 100 of them coming in the Premier League and a player who scored so many vital goals in major cup finals, there has also been a fair sprinkling of comments that have questioned why Chelsea even contemplated, let alone agreed, to bring him back.

At 36 years of age there`s no doubt that Didier`s best days are behind him and that the days of Didier grabbing the 'Golden Boot` are long gone but there`s also the feeling that his experience, over a long season, plus his ability to grab crucial goals (as well as being an excellent defender at set-pieces), allied with his competitive nature, could be of benefit to us over the course of the season.

However, whilst Didier might be looking forward to another Premier League season, it would appear that his career as an Ivory Coast international could well be at an end. We`re hearing that the Ivory Coast Sports Minister, Alain Lobognon wants to instigate a new way forward for the Ivory Coast team, a change which would see a cull of the ageing players.

Therefore, whilst Jose Mourinho (and the board) obviously feel that Didier can offer Chelsea Football Club something, it would appear that the Ivory Coast may be adopting a completely different attitude.

As an aside, would anyone like to predict:-

1 - How many goals, in all competitions, Didier Drogba will net for Chelsea this coming season?

And

2 - How many appearances Didier Drogba will make for Chelsea Football Club, in all competitions, this coming season?

Your thoughts on the return of Didier would be greatly appreciated!

Drogba will score more goals than Torres ...
kenquil
10 league goals at most...
Hazard11
And that's if he eventually becomes 2nd choice behind costa
Hazard11
I don't him scoring more than 5 goals in all competitions, a waste of space.

minimum 25 or 20 appearances with 10 goals n few (assists which he rarely does) ....
gary777
drogba should be our second striker and used as a super sub n used in matches where teams park the bus he will be good in our homeground for sure coz teams try to park the bus when they come to chelsea

Dogba will score most goals after Costa and Torres. Appearances: 20, Goals: 9

Ivory Coast are probably right to let him go along with Zokora, Kolo. The golden generation that never was.
BOTUM
He will score minimum 2 goals this season, all against Arsenal...That much sure
Blu_run
Drogba to score crucial 11 goals in all competition.6 of which will be an header. Mourinho will play him as in impact player, coming in to lift the moral of the team in crucial games so expect to see him play 26(12 sub) games(starting just 14 esply in league cup and FA cup).It will be a worthwhile signing at the end.

A much prefered option to the departed Foolish One... I still believe we did ourselves an excellent deal to get him as a third choice striker. the truth is that he would have walked into a number of mid-table teams in the EPL, Stoke, QPR, Cardiff etc. as first team or at most a second striker and start in not less than 20 games for any of such club this season. My only resevation is that we are yet to get a good second striker to complement Costa as i don't see torres suddenly getting magically better. fingers crossed on Torres although i like the way Mourinho is thinking about using him out wide and i won't be shocked to see Diego and Drogba upfront with Torres out wide when chasing a game.

1) 12 and 2) 29.

I think Drogs will chip in with a few maybe 10 goals, and he is a great 3rd choice striker. The problem is that we cannot get rid of torres and he is not a good enough 2nd striker, if costa gets injured, drogba is too old and torres doesn't score enough. We needed someone to rival costa as first choice or be a very adept 2nd choice. We don't have that
lews
7 goals in 15-20 matches in all competitions

Drogba will play the cup games, become impact sub in matches where costa is struggling and make us play 3-5-2 which jose tried in preseason with torres. Imagine both costa, drogba against the defenders, it will be nightmare for tiring defenders.
Blu_run
IMO, Drogba is always better than Ba, not just in taking his goals, but in other aspects like holding up, link-up play
Blu_run
drogba will score more than 20goals this season

"Drogba will score more goals than Torres ..."...by kenquil. Surely that is not comforting! If Costa goes down to injury....we will be using our prayer beads a lot!
Squig
I hope some of the optimistic predictions are right but I think we need another striker la Remy.
Squig
drogba dont have to prove anything.. his personality in the dressing room is enough.. i would love our chelsea to sign BONY in the future, he is from ivory coast & admires drogba.. if it happens we will be called "untouchable" again..

Drogba is still better than Torres. Imagine if Eto'o was still at Chelsea. Costa, Eto'o, Drogba and Torres (since he's going nowhere). Those four would help Chelsea win the league for sure.
foreign_viewer
Lukaku, Costa, Eto'o and Drogba would have been even better.
