Atletico 'still interested in' Torres

Atletico 'still interested in' Torres

It doesn't really get any better when you wake up on a Saturday morning to find headlines in the papers screaming Atletico Madrid are still interested in signing Fernando Torres this summer; essentially sonorous music to many a Chelsea fan's ears.

The former Los Rojiblancos captain who arrived Stamford Bridge from Anfield in a Premier League record £50m deal has consistently flopped with The Blues since his 2011 move and has been widely expected to find pastures anew following the arrival of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, same club where he is still seen as a cult hero.

Spanish paper, AS says the Spanish champions are still interested and are exploring all avenues to take the 30-year-old who is statistically our worst striker since the turn of the century, if not worst in our history, back to the Vicente Calderón Stadium after having been told in no uncertain terms that Andre Schürrle isn't an option - a move most Chelsea fans will be hoping happens so we can finally get the all vital second striker as proper competition or cover for Diego Costa (who may eventually not be as lucky to escape the sort of horror legbreak tackle Bruno Alves made on him last night), and Didier Drogba.

For me, it's make the deal happen already, amigos!

How about you? Still hoping Torres will one day boil your potatoes?

I think even teams from other clubs want to see the back of Torres now! He is so poor that I wouldn't have him in my Sunday league side!

he is only good in video games, how i wish we could give him out for free and get just any striker because no striker can ever be as bad as him in a chelsea shirt,so sure about that.

Not sure it's gonna happen...it's sad because I think torres leaving it's the best for all parties but I don't see it happening.. :(

I wish we can get in perspective how big of a hit do we really take by sending him packing.

Shame now though if Torres is sold who do we buy now cavani looks set for Liverpool? Aubameyang would still be my 1st choice as it's another option we don't have. If take Hernandez from utd also.

He is on his last big payday and he knows it ,no chance he will leave as he still has two more years . Our best bet to ship him out would be MLS where he probably would get the same wages .

Hey this Torres thing! In my opinion i don't he'll be sold this summer. He'll be at the bridge for this season (and probably next).

It's not that i am defending Torres coz his record is miserable thus far but i think we may finally see him score at least 15 premier league goals for us this season with Fabregas in the fold.

Wake me up when an actual sale happens (sarcasm intended). How many times have we heard this sort of nonsense rumors. The reality is this; he is going nowhere till his contract with us is done; QED. @Botum..your statement is the ardent prayer of every Chelsea fan but i am not holding my breath with expectation. His preseason showing thus far has not exactly been awe inspiring. The wise thing to do which i would have thought chelsea FC would have learnt by now is to take anything we get from El nino in terms of goals and assists as a bonus. It is utter madness in my mind to plan expecting him to provide anything substantive. In essence we really have only two strikers..one world class one in Diego costa and one legend who is however at the end of his illustrious career (Drogba) and so on whom we cannot wisely place any great playing load nor have great expectations from. Torres counts for nothing and so if we have learnt anything from his last 3yrs with us we had better get a credible no 2 striker (Drogs is our no 3) by Sept 1 otherwise come the january window next year we are going to have to revisit this matter as we did when we got Ba and when we went and got Eto last summer. If we dilly Dally on this matter once again we will pay a terrible price for it..again!!!

Torres had Juan Mata for almost 3 seasons and he couldn't score 10 goals. He's had Mata, Oscar and Hazard. Plus Willian as well. Even if you add Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas in their prime, he wouldn't score 9 goals in the EPL. No way he scores 15 goals because he won't be able to start even 30 matches with Costa and Drogba in the mix. Did he even score this preseason?

If we don't get a new striker it would suck knowing that Eto and Ba were let go. Those I actually would not have minded as back up.
