'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ferencvaros 1 Chelsea 2

Last night, over in Budapest, Chelsea played their last pre-season friendly on foreign soil.

Taking on the Hungarian side, Ferencvaros, to celebrate the opening of their new stadium, the game gave Jose Mourinho the perfect opportunity to give his squad another run-out ahead of the season opener against Burnley, a week tonight.

Unfortunately, the fixture was to see Didier Drogba limp away from the action after turning an ankle very early on.

Chelsea fell behind, in the fixture, when the former Fulham and West Bromwich Albion player Zoltan Gera scored from close range after slipping away from Cesar Azpilicueta.

Our hosts remained in the lead until just past the hour mark when Ramires scored with a superb half volley.

With the usual raft of substitutions slowing the flow of the game down, it looked as if it would fizzle out into a tame draw until Cesc Fabregas picked the ball up, dribbled past three opposition defenders before coolly slotting home.

Next up for Chelsea, as the 2014 / 2015 season draws ever closer, is a friendly against the Spanish outfit Real Sociedad.

Costa looked pale.... maybe its because he played 30 minutes but he didn't do much. im worried of another flop and the striker curse will keep at it... Also what about Drogba? is he okay?

Good match overall. Jose seems to be settling on his squad for the season. The second half was stronger as the fitter players featured. Hope the injury to Drogba is not serious although I still believe he should have told Jose no. I can't help but think what we would be like with Mata. I have not forgiven Jose for his act because it was underhanded and low. He found out his mistake to be sure and Juan will shine at United. I think we need another passer in midfield. Another direct passer, who can provide the service of Cesc. I don't feel comfortable moving forward without one because we will have a fight on our hands like none before.

There are rumours that we will make a huge bid for Benatia.

What happened to Courtois? Is he injured or if he is not why is he not playing then?

Don't see the sense in paying 30mm pounds for a 27 year old defender.

Just got to watch the game today. Not a bad performance at all in my opinion. The defensive pairing lacked experience especially for the goal against us. In the matchday thread guys kept complaining about Kalas and Omeruo loans but i think Zouma or Christensen would do well if paired with someone like Terry or Cahill just as Kalas did against Liverpool last season.

Yes, Courtois has a 'minor injury'

Maybe they will do well with an experienced head @Botum but an Omerou - Kalas defensive combo is far too superior to the Zouma-Chris combo and would have kept a clean sheet yesterday. At least one of Kalas, Omerou should have stayed.

Once the likes of Cesc, Matic, Costa and Hazard came on we became scary and created quality chances. We looked like a team. Matic is a beast, his passing game and movements are really good. He is beginning to take more responsibility and is trying to add to the attack as much as the defence. His partnership with Cesc looks really promising already. Cesc looks really comfortable playing with him. I see him having a great season and stealing the players player of the year award from Azpi.

Man City paid 24.4m to Porto for Mangala. Also paid 14.2m to 3rd party owner + 4.3m to Standard Liege. 42.9m total (Source: @JakeFCohen )

Shows why Fabregas should be our number 10 and not wasted playing a lot deeper next to Matic. Did Oscar play !!!!!!!

More than half the goals we conceded in pre season were zoumas faults. Dude got long way to go before we can put him in XI

Better Zouma makes these mistakes in pre season than the league . Decent game and it looks like we will hang onto Moses because of his HG status .

After watching Zouma once again lose his man and cause a goal, I'm worried about him even being an option off the bench. I don't care if he's only 19, if he's in against a bus parking minnow and has one of his "oops" moments and they score... He'll cost us 3 pts. that we cannot afford to lose

@blueheart fab even in pivot is right option coz a pivot player has to move forward n other defend fab has great ball control n passing makes him ideal for weaker teams ...n matic was awesome running forward n passing ... the team is linking pretty good n will have a great season ...costa should maintain his fitness
