'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Well done Liverpool.

Sometimes you have to look at something differently. Sometimes an editorial agenda should be put aside and you have to call it as you see it. Opinions and feelings are not unconditional. It`s a bit like Honda Civics - I've always hated them, but the new one is lovely. Credit where it is due. Joss Stone is another example. Always disliked her and her music her for reasons I cannot coherently explain, but after seeing her at this year's Brit Awards, after picking my jaw off the floor, I have had to re-adjust my opinion. Single Malt Scotch. The taste and smell has always made me want to convulse on the floor, but recently, I've found myself warming to the fiery liquid. Conversely, I've always been partial to Brandy, and enjoyed a good drop quite frequently, but after a number of Ben-Hur-Epic sessions out on the beer (with Brandy chasers) post-game with my Dad, I have gone off it in a big, big way.

And so it was on Saturday with Liverpool.

As anyone who has visited this site ever will know, I am not a Liverpool fan. In fact, I would say they are one of four teams I would use the word 'hate' for. Indeed, they are at the top of that not-very-illustrious list. I hate everything about them, and always have done. Horrible team, horrible fans, horrible city: horrible everything. And yet on Saturday, I have to hold my hands up and say well done.

They played as well as I've seen them recently, and played good, attacking, flowing, direct football. I didn`t see one long-ball lumped up to Crouch. Gerrard didn`t dive at all hardly. Evra and Vidic were made to look like total mugs, and frankly the Red Mickeys were so much the better team it wasn`t funny. They outfought, outpassed, and outthought United, and the sheer, audacious robbery of that game took my breath away. Fergie's smug mug on Sky Sports afterwards reminded me how much I hate him. There was so much to admire about Liverpool on Saturday though. I actually took my temperature afterwards to see if I was ill, and then counted how many cans of Stella Actatwat I`d skulled to see if I was drunk. Nope - not even a bit.

Their home fans sing, and it sounded incredible on telly. As someone who remembers the days when we sang like that at the Bridge; you have to respect that. There isn`t a footie fan in the world who doesn`t get goosebumps when the Spion Road Kop sing *that* song (even if it is the only one they know, and most of them are humming it), and combined with a really good performance on the pitch, I was impressed, I dont mind saying. Bellamy and Kuyt in particular, both targets of my vitriol in the past both looked very good indeed, and Jamie Carragher looked a half-decent defender which is a most worrying development. Sure, there were the usual things that bring down the Red Mist for me, Pepe Reina and Mohammed Sissoko being the main targets this time. The way the Kop runs down to the hoardings behind the goal every time something happens, and the way Ringo Starr does his matchday announcements that Mr so and so from Runcorn should contact the nearest steward etc, really really slowly. The fact that the Sky Cameras pick out the attractive blonde in a Liverpool top just in time to see her stick her chin out and spit on the floor, and pay far too much attention to all the 'witty' Scousers' inane (and often badly spelt) banners.

But loathe them as I certainly do, I freely admit to having some considerable respect for their efforts against a United side that got a dose of luck that I would be embarrassed about were it to befall our club. The thing is, I saw it coming a mile off. They would nick it - you just knew it. They played poorly against Lille, Fulham, and to be honest against Liverpool but took nine points anyway. How unlucky were Liverpool? Like everyone else, I'm sick to death of the hard luck stories and sympathy appeals from Liverpool, but on this occasion, they were robbed. Pickpocketed. Burgled.

They gave it a bloody good go though, and played excellently in the process. I think if they play like that against Barca at home in Europe this week they will spank the Catalans off the park. We really needed them to do us a favour and but for a laughable slice of good fortune they would have done. I think our title chances went a long time ago, and I've said so on here many times, but John O'Shea's injury-time goal put the icing on it. I'd be gutted about it if I was a Liverpool fan.

So thank-you Scousers - your efforts, although in vain, are appreciated by this hack if nobody else. Rest assured I'll be back in my amusing, cutting, sarcastic and highly original Liverpool-hating mode next week, but until then, fair play to you.

I'm off for a Brandy. : )

As I said before the weekend, they are simply not good enough, they are a Cup, not a League team. Cue Nozzys 18-5 drivel.
Blue is the colour
"Robbery on Merseyside - victims left with nothing". Hold the front page... I wonder if Liverpool are becoming the New Spurs, i.e. to rely on them for any kind of help is idiotic.
EuroBlue
well im rooting for barcalona this week no danger!!or better still if cesspool and chelsea do get through lets meet in the next round and sort it out!!
springy
And maybe you will get knocked out AGAIN by us. Anyways thank you for your sentiments towards us on saturday. That was the most gut-wrenching moments I have ever faced as a Liverpool supporter. I puked everywhere(probably because I was rubber on friday night). Was a very tough one to take and will be a tough one to get over. Roll on Tuesday!!!
Eusebio
Thank you Eusebio, for sharing this info with us, I'm sure it was a magic moment, but your board is the one with red on top saying "liverpool" . I think you'll find more people there who cares about your games and excuses for losing em.
Blue is the colour
Now now BITC - play nice. I enjoyed hearing about it. : )
OLASAL
BITC: Its a bit hard to stay away from this site or any site where "Liverpool" is in the title. If people stopped writing about us(they must be obsessed) then maybe we will stop flooding "your site"
Eusebio
BITC, this site used to be the Blue one. but recently I am not so sure. There certainly appears to be much to much red at the top of this page than I am happy with.
TT
Isn't Acta***** a bit chav? I had a pint for lunch, after all it's Monday, and it's something of a quiet understanding I have not to perform any quality work whatsoever at the beginning of the week, so I always adjust my drunkness accordingly and surf the forums...
Maestrinho
BITC: No offence but I really do not see where you are coming from. The title is "well done liverpool", you have a picture of Liverpool supporters holding up their scarfs or what have you! This site is as much Liverpool than it is Chelsea at this rate
Eusebio
Man Utd just seem to be getting so lucky it's scary! Surely they must slip up somewhere!
getintoem
Eusebio - we write a nice article about Liverpool for a change and STILL get slated for it??!?! Whats that about - have some good grace, please!
OLASAL
jammy w@nkers
Eusebio
As i said above, thank you for the sentiments!!!!
Eusebio
We're comin' for ya and ya know it
gerrybeckett
Genuinely wetting myself Gerry. ; )
OLASAL
What score do you reckon tomorrow lads
Eusebio
You'll do Barca 3-1. We'll do Porto 1-0.
OLASAL
My money is on GUDJOHNSEN to play and shut the feckers up for a few weeks!
merlin
3-1.. are you taking ths p1$$? Gudjohnson will probably BOTTLE IT again in the last minute. Ill go for a score draw and obviously id take a 1-0 loss! I reckon you will beat porto 2-1
Eusebio
Olasal, please don't tie yerself in knots about your mixed emotions on Saturday. You're still an out and out tw4t.
RedShanks
REDSHANKS - I'm sure he'll thank you for your kind comments!
merlin
Just trying to be reassuring. I can see he's in agonies about going soft.
RedShanks
I had the pleasure of seeing how 3 old-school Mancs ripped the piiss out of our resident Scouser at the offie today....was a classic kodak moment. Its fun to see people put so much energy and thought into humiliating a scouser. how I laughed. poor toosser
Blue is the colour
is it a mulit storey building? If so chuck him out the window and see if Stevie Gerrard will save him!
merlin
Have to read the rest later, but first. You consider Single Malt fiery and likes Cognac!!!! Malt is smooth as water compared. It is a question of smokey or not smokeytaste. Cardhu vs Laphroig so to say. I'm all for Cardhu. And with three drops of water in the glass, feel the difference. Now I have to get back to reading the article. I was too shellshocked by the statement in the opening.
Lindy
Seems like you need a couple of tips for beer too. Stella is OK, but a Belgian lager that is better is Jupitel to name the big one. But for good lagers, go Czech. My personal favourite is Krusovice. But Gambrinus and even the ever present Urquell is drinkable. Oh, by the way. I think anyone not ManU could feel something for the outcome Saturday. And I do believe scousers have their chance of their lives to go on in the CL.
Lindy
OLASAL I haven't always agreed with you but I do appreciate your sentiments this time around. This match just shows once again we need someone up front. We created at least 2 clear cut chances that we should have scored and didn't.
swingdoctor
Patronising doesnt suit you lot either. We smashed the life out of them, but then again we've smashed the life out of a lot of teams and not won this season. If we had an Eto'o or a Torres I think there'd be a different team in red at the top of the table. I do honestly wish we'd done you lot a favour, losing to such an average side is ******** horrible.
Nozzy06
LOL Nozzy - say what you like about United, but they are a long way from "average" - they have been and still are the best team in this country and will win the League just like I said back in December that they would. They have been head and shoulders above everyone else this season. You may have smashed them off the park as you put it but they still beat you fair and square. I think your season should show you that you are more than just one semi-decent striker away from winning the league.
OLASAL
We had an awfully good season last year and are level on points with last season. That shows how well United are doing.
Westl
They've been excellent this season, and worthy winners. No arguments from me.
OLASAL
/\ Thats called good grace Nozzy - you should try it sometime.
OLASAL
“I hate everything about them, and always have done. Horrible team, horrible fans, horrible city: horrible everything…” “But loathe them as I certainly do…” “Like everyone else, I'm sick to death of the hard luck stories and sympathy appeals from Liverpool…” “I'll be back in my amusing, cutting, sarcastic and highly original Liverpool-hating mode next week…” And so on, ad fecking nauseam. Does it occur to you, you self-pitying 4rse, that if your "good grace" was so evident, you wouldn't have to keep bragging about it? (Ditto your capacity to be "amusing, cutting and sarcastic" by the way). Forget the Christmas Day kick-about in no man's land - you really can't pull it off. All this good grace makes me want to stick my fingers down my throat. You've almost got me to the point where I'm glad we lost the game.
RedShanks
LOL thats better! : ) Normal service is resumed!
OLASAL
Ladies and Gentlemen and Scousers, I think we have found someone who is as bitter and vitriolic as Nozzy. There was me thinking he was a freak of nature and that he was an angry young man like Adolf was an angry young man, but it seems he isnt alone. You dont really have his caddish charm though, longshanks. Think maybe you need to work on the biliousness as well - Nozzy has it down a beauty. Lets be honest - you are just a Nozzy wannabee arent you?
OLASAL
Thank Christ. Come on Porto!
RedShanks
I think what must bother you is that not only is our football team considerably better than yours, we are smarter, funnier, and we have a better fan site. The banter on here is better, and we are fair in everything we say. The standard of writing on here is better than almost anywhere, and not matter how hard you try, you couldnt be insulting, upsetting, or even original if your sad worthless little Scouse life depended on it. Face it - you are just jealous.
OLASAL
Hmmm, I detect a subtext - insulted, upset and unsettled. And now I really must go and fret about the spelling on my banner.
RedShanks
You'll do Barca, and the papers will talk up you beating the Champions as if they are still any good, and hail you as the best team since time began, and Ickle Stevie as the living embodiment of God himself in human form. The fact is you wont play an easier CL game all season and will hammer them off the park - you'll start to believe your hype and get a game with Lyon hopefully, and they will pull down your pants and give you the kind of spanking you would give a red-headed step child. ; )
OLASAL
You could be wrong on about ten counts in one paragraph, there. Still, good game, so I'll have a go, too: if you lose to Porto, Ickle Jose will set a new world whingeathon record when bleating about a couple of injuries to the most expensive and extensive squad the world of football has aver seen.
RedShanks
Or maybe complain about a goal that was given two years ago. He has a habit of that
Eusebio
Shanks: What score do you reckon tonight, i personally think 1-1 but obviously ill take any result which means we go through
Eusebio
Hi, Eusebio. I'm somewhat nervy (sorry BTW, Chelski fans. I suppose two L'pool fans shouildn't really be having this discussion on your forum, but we just happen to be here). I'd optimistically go for 1-1, too, because i can't believe Barca won't score and I can't contemplate the thought that Liverpool won't. So, according to our amusing, cutting, sarcastic friend, Barca have gone from brilliant to shoite in one season? Well, if you're actively seeking ways to make yourself sound ridiculous I suppose that's one of them. And would he be quite as haughtily dismissive of Barca if Chelsea were facing them? I think I can guess.
RedShanks
Shanks, I'll expect a full retraction of your comments when you see how utterly, utterly gash Barca are at the moment. Ronaldinho is all tricks but no end product and I expect Finnan to stay stuck to him all game. Messi is woefully out form and Eto'o is way off match fitness having rushed his comeback. No Belletti, Van Bronkhorst, or Motta though so figure Messi down the right, Ronaldinho down the left, Eto'o thorugh the middle, Deco behind (he's been awful recently as well), with Xavi and probably Iniesta behind him. Figure on a back four of Thuram, Puyol, Marquez, and Zambrotta - leaking goals of late, and Valdez in goal is a weak-link. It may sound like a good team but you'll see tonight what poor form, pressured management, and internal politics does to a team of superstars. Your forward line will tear them to pieces.
OLASAL
Losing with good grace is for losers, quite frankly. The amount of times this season I've seen United win by a lucky late goal or a decidedly dodgy decision has been many. They have been the best side yeah, mainly due to the lack of any challenge from Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. But this idea that they're a great team is a long way from the truth. More than anything I think it goes to show the weakness of the Premiership, because if United are the strongest the Premiership has to offer than its a sad state of affairs. Oh and I think all 4 English sides will get through this round of the CL, and I'd love us to get Chelsea in the next round just to kill your CL ambitions once more.
Nozzy06
Crouch and Kuyt, and then bring on Bellamy as they push for a goal. Easy.
OLASAL
ickle jose redshanks?get origional and most of all get a life!
springy
Valdes, Thuram, Puyol, Zambrotta, Marguez(Defensive midfield), Iniesta, Xavi, Deco, Messi, Ronaldinho, Gudjohnsen. Close enough for a biscuit though OLASAL.
Nozzy06
Dont worry Shanks. This is virtually a Liverpool forum with the amount of stuff posted about us. I can nearly rely on this site for info more than our own at this stage. I think the fans will play a big part, similar to Juve and Chelsea a couple of years back, both teams were flabergasted and never experienced anything like that, hopefully tonight will be the same if not better. Both Juve and Chelsea melted in the Cauldron and Chelsea only managed to get one shot on target( a free kick from Lampard, which was comfortable for Dudek) and Juve managed to score and get one other shot on Carson which was a world class save. But Barca are better than both Chelsea and Juve so tonight will be a different gamne but hopefully with teh same results
Eusebio
You lot in the next round? Dont tease me Nozzy! : )
OLASAL
no chance nozzy,we're 10 points plus better than you so a better team.
springy
Gte original??? This from someone who calls Liverpool cesspool at every given opportunity and a site that uses such lovely terms as bin-dippers?
Nozzy06
Valdes, Olegeur,Puyol, Thuram, Zambrotta,Xavi, Marquez, Deco, Messi, Etoo, Ronaldinho
Eusebio
Um....no Eusebio I think you missed the point. Mine IS the team Barca will play. And yeah, maybe us in the next round if ya get through. Although you'll probably be given about the easiest tie(again) along with Arsenal and United whilst we get the next best side in the thing (Inter?). Its so frustrating, I swear UEFA hate us with the way they draw our games :(
Nozzy06
Well, if the worst happens, I hope Olasal gets what he's clearly praying for... a dream fixture against bag'o'****e Barca.
RedShanks
Chelsea are one of the most boring teams in the leaugue, Arsenal and Man U and us play better football. You lot buy established players who have nothing else to prove in the game and they are not motivated. You have 3 flair players in two Coles and Robben all the rest are a cog in the machine
Eusebio
Mine is the team i think Barca will play against us also. I can see them starting with Eto'o. Too big a game not to. Chelsea should watch out for Lucho Gonzalez and Quaresma who I think would solve our ride-sided problem
Eusebio
Eusebio, I have to say Drogba is a class player - hard to keep quiet and a handful for any defence (he's also a compulsive serial cheat, diver and whinger, but that doesn't entirely detract from his talent). And however hard Olasal might have found it to write what he fondly imagines to be a few charitable remarks about Liverpool you can multiply that ten times for what I've just written.
RedShanks
Yeah Drogba is a class striker forgot bout him, but would he do well for a side like Barcalona, Man U, Liverpool and Real etc. I think he only does well to the way Chelsea play, i.e cog in the machine
Eusebio
LOL we'll do Barca no worries, but its you lot I want. Actually no - thats a lie. I'd prefer Munich for the beer-trip, or Arsenal because they hate us. You lot spawned you way past us before and knowing you lot it will happen again.
OLASAL
Eusebio - you play better footie than us? Are you a complete loon?
OLASAL
And since when has Ashley Cole been a flair player?
OLASAL
Can we go back to the insults and bitterness please? This is doing my cannister in.
OLASAL
Eusebio - surely Mourhino wouldn't be crass enough to mention Garcia's glorious, netbusting strike of two years ago? Surely even the saddest, bitterest Chelsea fan wouldn't dream of bringing that up again?
RedShanks
Ashley Cole is probably the most attacking full back in world football. Well he was at Arsenal. Look at what you lot restrict him to
Eusebio
Oh my god, talking 'bout pool, i think i'm gonna puke.Do we really need liverpool articles?I mean, united, or gooner articles, i can understand, but pool?Ah, nah way....
k_chelski
Blame your editors! My bad Chelsea play "attractive" football. mwhahahahahahahaha
Eusebio
Shouldn't you be it arsenal's page?doing psychological arguments, they're your real opponents anyway.
k_chelski

k_chelski
I discuss all Liverpool related topics
Eusebio
I cannot believe that there are nominally-Liverpool-supporting 'persons' who are suggesting that Drogba is a diver. No Liverpool supporter should talk about diving: whilst Drogba has cleaned up his act, Liverpool have on their book the dirtiest diver in the Premiership, in the form of Ickle Stevie Gerrard.
EuroBlue
you dont know how to discuss anything eusebio, all you do is spout your vitriol which is what every CESSPOOL prat that comes on here, mwhahahahaha? whats all that,??WHAT A PONCE!
springy
Springy: Go play with knives or something
Eusebio
Nice article, although I can't help thinking that if your side were half as good as your manager claims, you wouldn't need any help from any other club in the league, you'd be top on your own merit. Looks like your just not that good. I do understand where all the anger and disdain comes from though, it cannot be pleasant for any supporter of a club built on sand to see the tide rolling so quickly in. By this time next year, you will have taken your rightful place in history as the next Blackburn. So long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersien, Goodbye
Smartpunk6
Well, certainly, if they hadn't been so completely cack at Anfield, they wouldn't need quite so much help.
RedShanks
Who'dya think your manager will be, next season?
RedShanks
EuroBlue, if Drogba has cleaned up his act it's only because there isn't a referee left in the game who'd fall for it. But I was also talking about the sad puppy eyes he makes at the ref every time he picks himself up, clutching his sides, and of course the fact that he scores every fourth or fifth goal with his hands. Still a talent, though.
