A Normal Day at the Office for Gary Cahill

A Normal Day at the Office for Gary Cahill

At the Bet365 Stadium yesterday, as Chelsea battled to a deserved win over a physical but capable Stoke City side, Gary Cahill was in the thick of the action.

Cahill, captaining the Chelsea side, was unfortunate to be penalised for a nudge in the back of Jon Walters for Stoke to claim their equalizer from the penalty spot.

But, just as it looked as if Chelsea would have to be happy with a point up stepped the central defender to smash home the winner from some eight yards out.

The celebrations after the goal and also at the final whistle showed just what the three points meant to a Chelsea side honing in on the title.

After the game, Cahill had a few words for the media, remarking,

'The manager told us to keep playing our football and wins are all that matter at this stage.

'We only had two Premier League games in this month. We managed to get the results and now we can sit back and watch tomorrow's games. There will be pressure.

'I have played in that situation where a team has won and you have to go out and get a result.'

The win reminded me of the win achieved at Ewood Park, against Blackburn Rovers, when under the managerial acumen of Jose Mourinho, Chelsea got the result that many acknowledge as being the moment they knew the title was theirs in all but name.
