A Kick up the Backside

A Kick up the Backside

The defeat, against Manchester United, on Sunday, has seen the gap between Chelsea and Spurs, at the top of the table, decreased to just four points.

What was once a healthy 10-point lead has been eroded courtesy of Spurs maintaining their winning run and Chelsea suffering defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace (h) and Manchester United (a).

With just six games left of the 2016 / 2017 Premier League season left, Chelsea cannot afford another blip, otherwise the gap could shrink further and put us into 'squeaky-bum` territory.

However, despite the poor performance offered on Sunday, Chelsea haven`t become a bad side overnight, there is enough experience and talent in the squad to ease us over the finishing line and make it two Premier League titles in three seasons.

Perhaps the defeat could be, in a strange kind of way, the wake-up call we need, the realisation hitting home that the title still has to be won and that complacency will not be tolerated.

Following the 2-0 loss at the hands of a Jose Mourinho inspired Manchester United, our skipper on the day, Gary Cahill, had a few words for the media, words that read,

"That defeat has given us all a kick up the backside.

"We have to show the same response we did after losing to Crystal Palace - when we beat Manchester City."

Yes we do!

This Sunday, when we play Spurs at Wembley, a venue where Spurs have struggled in recent times, we have to grab the bull by the horns, we have to produce the kind of display that exudes confidence, that includes a bit of the swagger associated with title winning teams and march on to the 2017 FA Cup Final, looking to land a second historic double.

Mind you, that could be easier said than done!
