Pat Nevin 'Talks Chelsea'

There's lots that's debated in football, but one thing that's never debated is Pat Nevin's status as a Chelsea legend. The silkily-skilled Scot played over two hundred games on Chelsea's wing as part of a glittering twenty-year footballing career. Now a broadcaster, we at AskFans were delighted when Pat dropped in to give his appraisal of the current, all-conquering Chelsea side.

First up, we asked Pat about Chelsea's summer dealings, to which Pat esposed positive, especially over the signings of Italian wing-back Davide Zappacosta and Leicester's midfield lynch-pin Danny Drinkwater (Pat citing the restoration of the Drinkwater-Kante combination from Leicester City's 2015-16 title winners), even though Pat doesn't see Drinkwater usurping another new signing - Tiemoue Bakayoko - or Cesc Fabregas as first choice.

Pat was less enthused about want-away striker Diego Costa, calling him a 'big daft boy'. Famously, when told he was likely to be sold, Costa refused to return to Chelsea after the summer, a situation that Pat seemed disgusted by. Costa eventually got his move back to Atl├ętico Madrid, but is left in limbo as he cannot move until January 2018 upon the opening of the next transfer window.

More transfer opinions! When asked about Nemanja Matic's summer move to Manchester United, Nevin seemed unbothered, citing the signing of Bakayoko, a younger player, as a direct replacement - and, speaking of Manchester United, Pat was asked whom he preferred out of current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte or former two-time blues manager Jose Mourinho. Pat's answer was as diplomatic as it could possibly be, but he did enthuse about how Conte has managed to get Stamford Bridge rocking again, after a barren and therefore quieter couple of years.
