Cahill Talks England
On Thursday night, England secured qualification for the 2018 World Cup Finals, in Russia.
However, the manner in which they played has left many a supporter wondering if Gareth Southgate`s side will manage to get out of the Group stages, with many fearing we`re on for a repeat of the shambles Roy Hodgson presided over in the Euro 2016 Finals, in France.
Now whether matters ca be improved between now and then remains to be seen.
However, Gary Cahill, who many believe should be captaining England, is hoping that the players involved in the Champions` League can help improve the side, with the Chelsea captain remarking to the media,
"The younger lads are playing more big games in the Champions League.
"If they can get to the latter stages of the competition, the experience will help this England squad.
"That`s something we can learn this season, how to handle the big pressure and kill off teams when we`re playing well.
"There have been a few friendlies against France, Germany and Spain when we`ve come away saying 'We held our own there`. But we didn`t win. That`s the gap we must close."
Can England close that gap or is it a forlorn hope?
