Danny Drinkwater`s Debut Getting Closer

Danny Drinkwater`s Debut Getting Closer

Danny Drinkwater has had a somewhat fractious start to his Chelsea career. He arrived in the final seconds of the summer transfer window. Chelsea signed him knowing that he was carrying a thigh injury, but he passed his medical and was due to return to full fitness in early September.

Sure enough, he duly recovered and was, ironically, fit enough to make the bench for Chelsea`s visit to his old club Leicester City. The bench, on that day, Saturday 9th September, was as close as the midfielder has got to the starting XI. A calf strain picked up in training two days later has seen him sidelined ever since.

However, as the days pass, the frustrated Drinkwater, is edging ever closer to a place in Chelsea`s midfield. He began training with the first team squad on Friday, albeit for only part of the session. After the Watford game, he was seen with the squad during the warm down.

Signs are Drinkwater could make his first outing for his new club during Chelsea`s Carabao Cup game against Everton on Wednesday. With N`golo Kante still injured, and Antonio Conte desperate to rest players, it could be the perfect opportunity to blood the 27 year old.

Drinkwater will be keen to get some game time before the forthcoming international break. Antonio Conte will pleased with added impetus the new arrival is likely to bring to the squad. And supporters will just be glad to finally get a look at the how the England international is likely to fit into Conte`s plans. Fingers crossed for double D.
