Chelsea Ladies Hold Upper-Hand in Champions League Tie

Chelsea Ladies Hold Upper-Hand in Champions League Tie

Last night, the Chelsea Ladies side took on the Swedish side, Rosengard, in the first leg of a last-16 tie.

Having knocked out Bayern Munich Ladies in the previous round, Emma Hayes was looking for her side to get that precious lead needed to take to Sweden for the second leg.

Her team did just that and in emphatic style.

Chelsea Ladies swept aside their Rosengard opponents to win 3-0.

After dominating the first-half, Chelsea Ladies were probably a little disappointed to go into the break leading by just the single goal, scored by Fran Kirby with the sort of finish that had those watching the game applauding loudly.

However, the second half saw the side get their just reward when, although the Swedish side came into the game more Chelsea added two more goals to their tally.

Ramona Bachman, who had previously played for Rosengard, netted after a pass from Ji So-Yun and Gilly Flaherty put the icing on the cake with the third goal of the game, scoring after an initial shot from Kirby had been blocked.

With a 3-0 lead and barring disaster, the Chelsea Ladies should, in the second leg in Sweden be able to navigate their way into the last eight of the competition.
