Courtois Future Questioned Again
Ahead of our Champions` League group game, in Azerbaijan, against FK Qarabag, speculation relating to the future of our Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has generated some column inches.
Courtois was alongside Antonio Conte at the obligatory pre-match press conference in Baku with the goalkeeper being asked about his contract situation.
Twenty-five year-old Courtois current contract expires at the end of next season and it is suggested that the keeper wants the club to double his current salary from £100k a week to £200k a week.
However, whilst speculation continues to circulate linking Courtois with a move to Real Madrid, the news source, the Daily Mail, carries some quotes from Courtois which suggest the keeper is pre-occupied with helping his side this season and is prepared to wait until the end of the season before entering into negotiations again with Courtois quoted as having remarked,
"Regarding my contract, that's the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent (Christophe Henrotay). I don't think there have been any new developments.
'We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team's games, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks."
But the above article does raise one or two questions:
Is Courtois worth £200,000 a week?
Is he ready to really commit to Chelsea Football Club or do you believe he still hankers after a return to Madrid?
Your thoughts on the above topic would be most welcome in our comments facility beneath this article.
