Where Are They Now - Ben Sahar

Where Are They Now - Ben Sahar

Back in the first spell of Jose Mourinho`s tenure as Chelsea manager, a young striker looked as if he could make that breakthrough to the first team.

His name was Ben Sahar.

An Israeli by birth, Sahar spent two months on trial with Chelsea before the club paid a fee of £320,000 for his services to Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Sahar made his debut for Chelsea, as a substitute, in the FA Cup tie with Macclesfield on 6 January 2006. His Premier League debut came on 13 January when he came off the bench to replace Arjen Robben.

But Sahar, in a squad with numerous world-class players struggled to make the desired impact and only made a further two appearances, off the bench, for Chelsea.

A series of loan spells followed for the striker, at the following clubs:

• Queens Park Rangers
• Sheffield Wednesday
• Portsmouth
• De Grafschaap

Before Chelsea sold the striker to Espanyol.

In Spanish football Sahar, once again, hit the loan trail, playing for:

• Hapeol Tel Aviv
• Auxerre

Before being sold again, this time to Hertha BSC, before, once again, hitting the loan trail, this time with:

• Hertha BSC II
• Arminia Bielefeld

A move to Dutch football beckoned next with Sahar moving to Willem II before, the striker, back in 2015, returned to Israel to play for Hapoel Be`er Sheva where he remains.
