Conte on Reaching the Carabao Final and VAR

Conte on Reaching the Carabao Final and VAR

Last season, Antonio Conte wrote his name in the Chelsea history books by winning the Premier League.

The Italian could have won the unique double of the Premier League and the FA Cup, but saw his side come unstuck against an Arsenal side who benefitted from a controversial own-goal where there was clearly a hand-ball missed by the officials.

During his brief tenure as the Chelsea boss, Antonio has seen his side win the league and play in the FA Cup Final and the Community Shield, but he has yet to lift a trophy other than the Premier League trophy.

Ahead of the semi-final second-leg, against Arsenal, Antonio Conte has spoken about beating Arsenal and reaching the Carabao Cup Final, remarking at his pre-match press conference,

'For me this could be a fantastic opportunity to play for every competition and reach the final in every competition in this country after one year and a half.

'After going from tenth place and then to win the league and reach the final of the FA Cup, this is a fantastic opportunity for me in a few years.

'For me and my players it is great if we can reach this target. We know we have to fight against Arsenal.

'If you are able to fight during the season for every trophy it gives satisfaction for your fans.'

But, returning to the FA Cup Final and that controversial opening goal, I wonder what the decision would have been if VAR had been available, although thinking back to the decisions or lack of them that went our way against Norwich, I doubt whether the outcome would have been any different.

But, what did the boss have to say about the VAR and in particular the fact that it is going to be used not only in this game but also in the forthcoming 2018 World Cup, in Russia?

Here`s what the boss had to say when presented with the question,

'I am positive.

'The VAR can help the teams a lot and the referee mistake during a game could be a big mistake that changes the final result.

'You have to help the referee.'

But as we found in the Norwich game, only if the referee wants to ask for help!
