Unbelievably This Player Was Not MOTM

Unbelievably This Player Was Not MOTM

With the draw for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup just under an hour away, we`re taking a quick look back to last night`s tie against Hull City.

Our traditional post match poll always looks for the player we deem to have put in the best performance during the ninety minutes.

As ever, everyone who got on the field featured. In a slight change from the norm, the poll began during the actual game. The reason being, it allowed us to introduce the 'first goalscorer` poll, obviously there would be no point running that once a goal had been scored.

Right, obviously having scored two goals, you`d expect Willian to be at the top of the poll. But we`ve been here before and as I`m sure you`re aware comes in for quite a bit of criticism on this forum. Personally, I don`t get it, but there you go. Whoever, you Willian haters are, you`ll be sorry when he`s gone.

Having said all that, our man of the match was indeed a worthy one. Without being disrespectful, you could almost say Boy of the Match. At just seventeen, Ethan Ampadu shows a calmness and ability far beyond his years. He polled 21% and came in just in front of debutant Emerson who ably slotted into Marcos Alonso`s left wingback spot. Before we get too excited though, lets not forget that Hull are a Championship side. He picked up 20% of the votes.

Third spot went to goalkeeper Willy Caballero with 13%. The Argentine is starting to look like an excellent choice for Chelsea`s No.2 keeper, although he actually wears the No.1 shirt. Next in the pecking order came the man who gave Caballero the chance to make the penalty save that secured him those votes, Cesc Fabregas grabbed 11%

Rounding up the final five who received votes, 10% of them went to Olivier Giroud who scored his first Chelsea goal with a cheeky back heel that would have made Arsenal fans feel a little bit sick.

Another goalscorer Pedro came next, also with 10%. It was the other wingback Davide Zappacosta with 7% next, who unselfishly tried to give Willian (4%) a hat-trick when he could have shot. Last but certainly not least came substitute Alvaro Morata joining Willian on 4%.

Our current front page poll is a tad tongue-in-cheek, asking if Chelsea should throw the game against Barcelona and target the two games against the Manchester teams as a priority.

I’m not a fan of Willian but last night he was fantastic, sometimes the poll results do not make any sense.

I'm sure if Willian visits this site he wouldn't be angry or surprised to see that he's never voted the MOTM.He would just assume most are too proud to accept the fact that he's better than what they expect him to be

Most look for his faults but never quick to praise him when he's performed well

I didn't vote for MOTM because I wanted to see what percentage Willian would get from the so called football fans on this site. Willian was head and shoulders above ever player on that pitch, there was no contest and that was before I even include him scoring two goals. His touch, skill, pace, dribbling ability was amazing. The trick he did, in the first half on the left wing, when he dragged the ball around and past the defender was worth the admission fee alone. No disrespect to the lad that won MOTM but he had very little to do, had no one to mark and played some nice passes sideways. The disrespect shown to Willian on this forum is sad really. I've watch a hell of a lot of football home and away and I have always said Willian should always start, in our home games. Hazard is our best attacking player but style wise Willian is miles ahead. Show a bit of respect for a class act.

He would get man of the match just for making that Hull player miss the penalty .

You lot are ridiculous. Willian is an incredible player that ANY team would love to have in their squad. You can look at a lack of team identity, or any other number of reasons why he hasn't reached his maximum potential here - but make no mistake, he's a footballer's footballer. When I hear people criticise him, the first thought that comes to mind, is that these are people who would reject a meal when they're starving, simply because it wasn't plated properly. Go back to your consoles. I'm in awe of this player's talent, and wish we had one just like him in every position.
